Hi, my DS is in year 5 and we're struggling with not being able to see schools in person. We're having a think about where to apply and at the moment KCL is a favourite geographically but we haven't seen it so don't have a feel for the vibe. We went to see Hampton and KGS before the first lockdown without DS and liked them both. The Emanuel tours booked so quickly when they were released a few weeks ago, I think they are releasing more slots soon. Just wondering if anyone can give us a feeling of the vibe of these schools. Does anyone know what is happening with the headteacher at Kings? They seem to have an acting head at the moment.

Anyone heard / know when we’ll hear from Leatherhead?

SW19mumKat · 05/02/2022 11:08

Postman just arrived - yes from St Johns for DS! Good luck to everyone else waiting

Thisonesfortheroad · 05/02/2022 12:20

St Johns?

Thisonesfortheroad · 05/02/2022 12:21

…hmm is it weird that I’m waiting by the front hall?

11Plus2022 · 05/02/2022 15:45

@Thisonesfortheroad, hope the post has arrived and that it is good news.

@SW19mumKat, well done to your DS!

Jumpalicious · 06/02/2022 13:29

@Iamnotsoexcited

So the interview at Hampton was v tough. Particularly for maths. 4 questions. My DS only got 2 out of the 4 right…. I am now thinking this rules him out. Did any child doing them get them all right?
Last year, my child got some maths wrong. Silly mistakes since he is very good at maths! Offered place. (Not wait list) High score on Iseb I think. So do not worry!
Iamnotsoexcited · 07/02/2022 06:52

Thank you. I will keep you posted on Friday. Not holding out a lot of hope!

Thisonesfortheroad · 07/02/2022 09:07

@11Plus2022 Yes! It came and then (almost simultaneously) got an email too! Phew! Really good for DS to have something concrete to hold onto. Having had “no” from Sutton Grammars and Kings (which admittedly were always going to be a stretch) whilst friends at school seemed to be reeling off successes this week - I think both of us had begun to give up hope on all of it!

finallywokenup · 07/02/2022 11:32

@jumpalicious. Good to read your thoughts.
My son seems to have done OK in the maths questions. Did get one very simple one wrong. He is worried that he has said in the interview that he is a mischievous child. Any thoughts on whether that can be a problem?
He is bright academically-top of his current prepschool, enthusiastic about sports but in the C team for all !

finallywokenup · 07/02/2022 11:33

Well done to the boys who already have a school in the bag! Friday for the rest of us can't come soon enough.

11Plus2022 · 07/02/2022 12:18

@Thisonesfortheroad, excellent news! Well done to your DS. It is a big relief to have a firm offer.

@finallywokenup, it does feel like an incredibly long wait. Only a few days left now.

Oldmonk · 08/02/2022 13:11

Reeds 13+ offer this end. Quite relieved. Now waiting for 11th Feb for all remaining.

Avidgardner · 08/02/2022 13:29

Congrats to all that have offers already. Roll on Friday - which schools is everyone waiting for? We have Hampton, Ibstock, KGS and SPS 13+.

7plus11plus · 08/02/2022 13:50

13+ Is not Friday right? We have to wait till end of the month.

finallywokenup · 08/02/2022 14:51

@7plus11plus- I thought most schools are this Friday. They like to keep them all together where possible .Maybe check the ones you are applying for.

finallywokenup · 08/02/2022 14:52

@Avidgardner- we have Hampton, KCS and St Georges weybridge

Mominafix · 08/02/2022 15:06

Hello, Friday definitely could come sooner. We are awaiting results from Hampton, Kings and RGS. This wait for the results seems more torturous for the parents
All the best to everyone.

7plus11plus · 08/02/2022 15:07

@finallywokenup
I believe 11+ Is this Friday.
13+ varies.

Avidgardner · 08/02/2022 15:31

@7plus11plus you are correct, 13+ varies depending on interview dates etc. Good luck all, looking forward to the wait being over soon

Thisonesfortheroad · 09/02/2022 13:44

Oh gosh! You all have quite academic schools! Anyone here heard from EC? We got waitlisted. DS not so happy as was rather keen on EC’s sausage rolls! 😂

SW19mumKat · 09/02/2022 13:55

@Thisonesfortheroad we got an offer from EC yesterday. I haven’t sounded out other families who have applied - I think it has been another tough year with bonkers competition. The waiting lists do move - do you know where you are?

Tw1mum · 09/02/2022 17:02

We got Epsom college and reeds 11+ and torn which to choose as both great. Anyone already have boys at the schools? Commute from Teddington looks long but worth it?

SW19mumKat · 09/02/2022 17:17

@Tw1mum I have 2 children at EC. Can’t praise it enough. The house system is brilliant - children make friendships across the year groups. Loads of sports activities / extra curricular options. Teaching really inspiring. It’s a tough decision though!

Tw1mum · 09/02/2022 17:20

Ok brill thanks @SW19mumKat
We’re coming to the offers day after half term which already sounds so well organised.
I just need to get my head round the long days but he can always board if he wants to when he’s older I guess. Thanks for messaging!

Didsomeonesay · 09/02/2022 20:10

@Tw1mum hey there. We’re based in Thames Ditton (so not much closer than you) and have a son in the lower school at Epsom College. We have loved it. I say ‘we’ as my DS does all his work at school and therefore home is a place to chill. Nothing has been too much trouble at the school and my sons pretty below average English has improved dramatically. The first term is nutty (long hours) but they totally get used to it. DS didn’t know anyone when he joined and now has an amazing group of mates.

I’m sure Reeds is lovely and people I know who have sons there are very happy but I can only speak for EC.

Good luck with picking a school and just go with your gut. You can’t really make a wrong choice out of those two schools. Congrats to your boy x
