Trinity/Whitgift waiting lists (y7)

Hi, I wonder if anyone had any experience or knowledge about waiting lists for these schools? We are on a waiting list at trinity at the moment, and we are waiting anxiously to find out if we stand a chance of getting in! I did ring the office who said there isn’t any way of knowing where you are on the list as they don’t have an official order so to speak , so just to carry on waiting. Just hoping someone who has been through the experience who might know more might be on here! I’m sure there will be movement after the 1st of March but it’s so hard to know if it’s worth hanging on if he could potentially be the bottom of the list, even if there is officially no order to the list 🤔🙁.

We had this last year...but they did tell us approximately where we were on the list (we were pretty high up) and phoned us several times to update. I do know someone who got offered a place from the waitlist but ultimately they couldn't offer us a place before the acceptance deadline day - by this time we had accepted another school anyway so we did not pursue any further.

Longingfornormality · 16/02/2021 16:28

We’re on the waiting list for Trinity as well and I was wondering the same thing. Although actually we have a decent offer from somewhere else and may go down the state route anyway so for me it may just be a helpful way of making the decision for us. I wondered whether they contact people as places become available or whether they contact loads of people in one go on 5 March (after the acceptance deadline).

Croydonmum3 · 16/02/2021 19:49

Ah that’s good to hear they told you your position, I will try and give them a ring next week and see if anything has changed. Thank you:)

Good luck! Hopefully we will be lucky. We have another offer but really have set our hearts on trinity.

I don't know that it will help, but there can surely be no harm in ringing T admissions and telling them they are your first choice, and that you would 100% accept a place if offered. It might get you a phone call ahead of someone else on the waiting list if a place comes up.

Oh, and the admissions team are probably working this week, even though it's half term.

Good luck!

Croydonmum3 · 16/02/2021 21:07

Thank you!! You are right, I will give them a ring. I just didn’t want to be that pushy parent annoying the admissions team, but there is no harm in trying. DS’s friend is on the waiting list for whitgift and is in the same position, it’s such a nerve wracking wait!

@Croydonmum3, any updates? Let us know if you managed to get through to Trinity. I wonder how much (if at all) they over offered and also when it is realistic to expect to hear from them - they did ask for people to fill in a form on the open apply system to confirm whether they were still interested in a place. The deadline is Friday I think - so I assumed we wouldn’t hear before then. It seems like many people who applied to Trinity had it as a top choice, so I’m not hopeful about the prospect of a place (and also worried we can’t afford it anyway).

Croydonmum3 · 17/02/2021 12:41

@Longingfornormality nothing yet. I was going to wait until next week when the deadline for adding yourself to waiting list closes. Will post here if I do here anything. And best of luck too!

Thanks, good luck to you as well @Croydonmum3!

We are on the W 11+ wait list, could anyone help and indicate how many DS are normally placed on a WL please? Are there different wait lists ? Any experience or words of wisdom from previous years mums who have experience of the process greatly appreciated or any other site where mums are talking about W11+ WL.

Goingcrazy101 · 17/02/2021 14:16

Regarding Trinity I think there is quite a lot of movement right up to the acceptance deadline - we have an offer which we are prob accepting but it’s worth keeping in touch with admissions - prob by email I would have thought.

Teacakes100 · 18/02/2021 09:34

@Goingcrazy101 well done on your DS with T 11+. We did sent an email to W 11+ accepting the WL place. But I will send a follow up email, would you do that this week or next? As the WL closes next Friday for adding names.

Goingcrazy101 · 18/02/2021 11:05

I’m not really sure tbh @Teacakes100 - it just occurs to me that the schools do over-offer so not sure regarding WL.

I do know of one boy who is prob turning down his T place.

It must be frustrating for you.

A lot of schools are holding Q&As at the end of Feb so I think some parents are holding onto their place until then - that is what we are doing with our other offer.

Teacakes100 · 18/02/2021 17:04

Hi @Goingcrazy101 we have other offers and possible grammars to come. But W was our top choice, so it is really frustrating. We too have T, and as you say many may hold on to all offers until after the Q&A, had not thought of that. Good insight.

Is T your first choice ?

Goingcrazy101 · 19/02/2021 13:41

Hi @Teacakes100 - we think T is our first choice but will see what happened on 1 March - DS has also passed a grammar and an offer from another private so lots to consider!

Teacakes100 · 19/02/2021 14:54

The 1-5th of march is going to be a roller coaster, for the schools as well.

elevenplusnightmare · 20/02/2021 16:04

Please don't lose hope. I know at least 3 kids who will turn down offers at one of these schools (the same one)...mainly due to travel issues so that waiting list will be fluid! :)

Teacakes100 · 20/02/2021 18:21

@elevenplusnightmare if you don't mind my asking... is it T or W?

elevenplusnightmare · 21/02/2021 13:03

@Teacakes100 Sure, will DM you. :)

Croydonmum3 · 25/02/2021 11:41

We are still waiting, patiently. Kind of! We did speak to the school in the end (T) who said wait till movement next week but were very encouraging and patient with this anxious mum! Hopefully we will all know in a week. Fingers crossed for everyone on waiting lists.

Teacakes100 · 25/02/2021 18:07

@Longingfornormality I saw on another chat someone had indicated T 11+ was approx 170 offers for the 80 places. Mr Price also said in his video clip that last year they offered half off the WL a place.

I think @Goingcrazy101 has some good insights on T, is 170 offers about right each year? W seems to be about 200 for 120 places.

For those waiting for the grammars on Monday good luck.
Those on the W and T WL it’s going to be a long week.....stay positive and thanks for sharing info and posting,

Longingfornormality · 25/02/2021 18:43

@Teacakes100 thanks for the info. Not holding my breath!

Croydonmum3 · 25/02/2021 19:05

Yes thanks for the info! 170 for 80 places!!!! It does seem like it will need a lot of people to turn down their place so I’m not holding out much hope.

Teacakes100 · 25/02/2021 19:44

@Longingfornormality and @Croydonmum3 stay positive it does seem like a lot of people have to reject offers before they get the WL. But remember most/not all who get T will get W and visa versa, they can only accept one. Also a lot will also get grammars, and many will take that.
All this before, Dulwich, KCS , RGS WUS offers.
I am certain T and W know what they are doing and would not have a WL if there was no chance of using it, well I hope so.
Hopefully they will be telling us how many on WL very soon.
Fingers crossed, and if anyone gets a WL call please post. Only a very long week to go.

2morasmum · 08/03/2021 14:58

Hello All,

as many of you I have been waiting eagerly to see movement on the WLs today. However apart from email asking to confirm we would like DC to remain in the list last week, we have not heard anything else. Has someone being so lucky as to receive a WL place yet?
