Apparently that’s now been overturned
mobile.twitter.com/PippaCrerar/status/1368917883225579525
But can’t see it on the BBC yet. They really do make it up as they go along don’t they!?

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2021 16:08

It's not been overturned as such : it's various branches of government not being clear on rules.

Test taken at school are seen as 'controlled' so assumed done properly and accurate (hmmm) . Test done at home are probably not as accurate (so why bother??) and need confirming.

Vicky Ford should have been briefed to be clear on this this morning.

Monkey2001 · 08/03/2021 17:52

@crazycrofter next Monday for us.

I also picked up LFTs, it was very quiet, but they were geared up for 12 people collecting at a time. Everyone given 2 boxes, just asked whether we had someone at school and did not have any symptoms.

Zandathepanda · 08/03/2021 17:57

Monkey2001 how many tests in a box?

Heifer · 08/03/2021 19:13

DD also came home underwhelmed. She said the test was fine and probably didn't do it properly as wasn't even uncomfortable. She got a negative result so assume she did it ok as surely it would come back undecided if not enough evidence?

She goes back properly tomorrow and really isn't fussed. Certainly isn't looking forward to getting up at 7.00am :-)

Fingers crossed all goes well for all your DS/DDs when they do go back.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 08/03/2021 19:17

My boxes had 7 tests in each.

Zandathepanda · 08/03/2021 19:19

Oo so you get 14 tests. That may make the long round trip worth it. Thanks

Monkey2001 · 08/03/2021 19:25

@Zandathepanda ours had 7/box too.

Zandathepanda · 08/03/2021 19:32

Thanks

Fiddlersgreen · 08/03/2021 21:13

@Piggywaspushed

Mine is back next Monday crazy.

By the way, re LFTs, you aren't meant to eat or drink for 30 mins beforehand. This is not publicised so worth knowing!

What!!! I get them from work (hospital) and have never been told that!
Fiddlersgreen · 08/03/2021 21:16

I’ve just checked my instructions too and it doesn’t mention it ?

ExponentiallyDepleted · 08/03/2021 22:21

I’ve just checked my instruction leaflet and it does mention it, page 4. But there are probably more than one brand of kit.

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2021 23:03

It's right near the beginning in a blue box on mine!

sandybayley · 09/03/2021 07:07

Would it be very bad if me to not bother testing myself? The whole family had COVID before Christmas and DH has now had his first dose of vaccine. If DD and DS2 are testing it seems pretty unlikely I'll get it.

I'm happy to if it's important but it just seems such a waste of resources.

Monkey2001 · 09/03/2021 07:58

@sandybayley it is up to you. I think asymptomatic covid is a lot less common as you get older, so the risk is lower for you than for your children. I think it is a very good idea to test older DC, and if you are at all concerned that you might be coming down with it you can test yourself, although if you have recognised symptoms you would need a PCR. We will test ourselves before visiting mother in law (she is suffering from intense anxiety and depression after a fall so DH spending half his time working from her house to give her company).

ExponentiallyDepleted · 09/03/2021 08:05

I think it's fine Sandy. DH and I are mainly doing it because we work outside the home, not because of the DCs.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 09/03/2021 08:06

And none of us have had jabs or had Covid.

KingscoteStaff · 09/03/2021 08:20

I’m only doing it because the Borough keep dropping off boxes and boxes of time sensitive ones in our staff room and I can’t bear the thought of throwing them away unused!!!

Seeline · 09/03/2021 08:54

We're not doing it. Only have DD at home who will be testing twice a week. Both WFH. Shopping is delivered. Rarely come across anyone. Both had first dose of vaccine. I shall probably get some, particularly as DS is looking to come home from uni over Easter - probably not allowed, but we haven't seen him since New Year, it's his first time away, and he needs to pick up his summer clothes for next term 😁

sandybayley · 09/03/2021 09:39

@Seeline - is your DS at university? If so the guidance has changed and they are allowed home for the vacation. DS1 was also going to be 'stuck' at university but is now coming home on Sunday 😊

Seeline · 09/03/2021 09:53

@sandybayley - yes he is, although strictly speaking shouldn't be. He arrived back before lockdown started, so hasn't come home again.

I thought I saw something about them being allowed home for Easter, but couldn't see anything about them going back again. I don't think he is on one of the 'approved' practical courses, although I have seen architecture listed and his is similar to that. His uni have been really slow at getting info out. He would really want to be back in halls for next term. He just needs a bit of TLC and some home cooking!

Seeline · 09/03/2021 11:14

@sandybayley

https://www.oxfordstudent.com/2021/03/07/travel-exemption-for-students-to-return-home-over-easter/

This might help @Seeline

Thanks - that does help! So leaving aside the fact that he shouldn't really be there in the first place, he can come home for Easter and then go back to uni Grin
Piggywaspushed · 09/03/2021 11:29

Hi all

Southampton Uni has some good webinars coming up : social sciences, chemical engineering are the two I recall but might be worth having a look!

Piggywaspushed · 09/03/2021 11:30

Chemistry and environmental and life sciences are the other two.
