Also @Piggywaspushed DS was seriously considering Liverpool Uni just because he’s a LFC fan!

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 20:42

Not sure just ....hope so!

DS gave up a few years ago. DS1 was the talented one but couldn't stand the pressure. School didn't do cricket so it was all club and county and very cliquey.

Claim to fame, though...DS played with Captain Tom's grandson which is how I have had little chats with the great man!

EwwSprouts · 15/02/2021 20:53

Piggy tell us he was as lovely in that setting as he seemed on TV.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 21:18

Just the same ... chatty old boy. Bit of a flirt!

Monkey2001 · 15/02/2021 21:31

@Piggywaspushed I think that if schools use Microsoft Teams students get Office365 through school. Maybe yours uses something else.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 15/02/2021 21:33

@Piggywaspushed: I was just going to say that: our school has a link on their website to download Office for free if you have a school email address. More info here: www.microsoft.com/en-gb/education/products/office

EwwSprouts · 15/02/2021 21:33

I'm sure they're good memories of long afternoons in the sunshine.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 21:42

I think that might be an online only version of office but will try : thanks!

Monkey2001 · 15/02/2021 22:12

Ah, Captain Tom! He just symbolised good, worthy britishness, reminded me of my grandad.

KingscoteStaff · 16/02/2021 07:34

DD says she has as much if not more daily work during half term than usual.

She has planned a couple of walks with friends and has a zoom sports team fitness session, but nothing else.

Last night she decided to watch Only Connect, but save University Challenge til later in the week as a treat!!!!!

Zandathepanda · 16/02/2021 07:52

Dd has no schoolwork set this half term except sorting out files for a virtual inspection. She needed the break but is so bored. I may cave in to Disney+ at this rate.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/02/2021 08:28

@Piggywaspushed DS didn’t play county just club and school. We have signed up for this year though as he’s sort of drifted off it a bit now since everything got cancelled. How fantastic to have that link to Captain Tom, good to hear he was a nice man out of the limelight. 🙂

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/02/2021 08:29

*Haven”t signed up.

EwwSprouts · 16/02/2021 08:55

Not much homework here, mainly do some reading round the subject of your own choosing. DS is not good at that at all (thinks 15 mins worth is a session) so I've pointed him at these:

EwwSprouts · 16/02/2021 08:56

Zanda If you do cave I recommend Agent Carter.

Zandathepanda · 16/02/2021 09:03

EwwSprouts just googled Agent Carter - yes I imagine that’s right up her street. She wants to watch ALL the marvel films. There’s thousands of them! And Hamilton. I’ll have those songs on repeat in my head again.

Decorhate · 16/02/2021 09:12

@Piggywaspushed Would Leeds be any good for your ds? It has the cricket & football....

I also find the MN obsession with the “best” unis quite amusing (where I grew up was/still is usual to go to your nearest uni)

Having said that, my older two are doing vocational degrees so it matters less anyway. S2 may need to be more aware of reputation for what he wants to do. Hopefully he will remember some of the many open days we went to with S1.

FoolsAssassin · 16/02/2021 09:14

DS been told to take it easy and that they need the rest. He seems keen to follow this advice very closely.

Piggywaspushed · 16/02/2021 09:14

DH went to Leeds. It is on the list but is bizarrely in accessible form where we live. £h45 by train with at least one change. It is the only big uni North of us which is tortuous to reach.

Decorhate · 16/02/2021 09:25

Dd is at Leeds - we are just outside London but it is really easy from here - she goes from a station around 20 mins drive away & it takes under 2 hours. Ds at Bath is geographically much closer but has to go into London, across and out from a different station.

Piggywaspushed · 16/02/2021 09:28

Yes, we are the same with anywhere south f London decor. From us, Sheffield, Nottingham, Loughborough all dead easy. York and Durham easy after 30 min drive to Peterborough. Glasgow, Lancaster and Manchester all quicker than Leeds!

Decorhate · 16/02/2021 09:30

It’s crazy - you would think Leeds & York would be in the same line. I guess you could go to York & change there?

crazycrofter · 16/02/2021 09:36

We are supposed to be moving for dh's work in the summer of 2022. It's such a pain as where we are now (Birmingham) is really handy to get almost anywhere. Most university cities are a direct train ride away. We're only moving 45 mins away, but it will be a 20 minute drive to the nearest station and then a 30 minute train into Birmingham. Everywhere is over 2 hours and at least one change, except Warwick and Oxford and she's not interested in either.

estherfrewen · 16/02/2021 09:46

DS got quite a lot over half term - couple of essays and some French plus the Spring Pod stuff for law which is 10 hours. Apart from that some online gaming and solitary cycling every day. Even came for walk with us yesterday!

I’ve got May half term off so planning on visiting a few Uni towns. Not sure where yet. He is still keen on UEA but it is just so far. Cambridge he did with school end of year 10. He is still keen on applying for that and his French teacher was pushing him to apply at parents evening. He didn’t have the heart to say he isn’t going to do French.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/02/2021 09:49

That's a nightmare @crazycrofter, especially if you've had it 'easy' being so central. That is the good thing about Brum, no where seems that far away!
