DS1 has tickets for 2 festivals rolled over from last year, not a chance for Truck (June), but a glimmer of a hope for Shambala (end of August). Would be lovely to get back a bit of normality for these poor young people. Sadly I think that the Reading Y12 experience will have to be a Y13 experience.

Zandathepanda · 13/02/2021 22:17

icanbewhatiwant Bet I had the same posters! You have good taste Grin

ChristopherTracy · 13/02/2021 22:32

Ooh we used to go to shambala when the kids were younger. Lovely festival but slightly kettastic in the later years, though obvs its no Boomtown!

I so miss live music.

Heifer · 13/02/2021 23:13

Monkey2001 & Zandathepanda DD had ticket last year for Leeds (it's a yr 11 thing here) but rolled it over to this summer.. She said no way would she want to go next summer if it's cancelled again as Y13s can't go where Y11 will be! I tried to explain that there will be a few more people there than just from the Wirral and would be all ages :-)

Not sure where Yr 12/13 normally go - probably on holiday abroad. I can't get over just how many holidays people here seem to take.

Monkey2001 · 13/02/2021 23:53

@Heifer DS1 went to Reading in Y11, I get the impression it is a young crowd and very druggy.
My neice also went in Y11 and was disgusted by the dirt and lack of hygene! There are so many festivals in a normal year now, Shambala popular here with people who do not manage to get Glastonbury tickets.

Sunday Times reporting that schools will be back by March 8th. This makes me nervous because DH is vulnerable ( diabetic) and over 50, and am not sure if he will get his vaccine by then. At the same time, children are at such a disadvantage and parents are struggling so much, that it would be selfish of me to be against opening.

I just hope at least secondary students will be made to wear masks if they can, though I know people have other views. ( not trying to start a fight) DS former school back in India has blended learning, masks for both teachers and students and social distancing. ( this last not always possible in every school ofc).

FoolsAssassin · 14/02/2021 10:40

Frequentflier some CV at a GP surgery here are booked in now, DH isn’t yet and same as your DH. The BBC says today that some CV been invited and more letters to go out this week, we are keeping an eye on the online booking system.

All in 8 March makes me very nervous now I have been thinking about it. We’ve come so far and don’t want to blow it at final stage. I do want them back ASAP but have come to the conclusion reluctantly that it would be sensible to prioritise younger primary and years 11 and 13 and to look at the vaccine scheduling, would like to see teachers plus cv and over 50 parents vaccinated as soon as possible.

I want them back but to stay back and not how it was in the autumn term with bubbles bursting all the time. I think it’s fairer for non prioritised years to all to be off as online provision seems better across the board this time and I worry that If we are back to some in some out it will be chaotic, hence preferring on balance to wait just a little bit longer to have best run possible at keeping them in.

Piggywaspushed · 14/02/2021 10:44

I honestly don't want years 13 and 11 prioritised- it sounds good but doesn't make strategic sense.. That horse has bolted and exams have been ditched/will be adjusted. I have literally nothing left to teach year 11. Pragmatically, I'd rather year 10 and 12 were prioritised.

However, this is Boris : I think they'll all be back.

DH doesn't even know he if he is Gp 6. The list is conveniently vague.

FoolsAssassin · 14/02/2021 10:55

So have your year 11s finished the syllabus now Piggy?

EventuallyDeleted · 14/02/2021 11:16

I don't really see why years 11 and 13 should be prioritised now. Those students were rightly prioritised last year when they were in y10 and 12, but the current y10 and 12 are now IMO at the most critical stages and should be prioritised.

Frequent - I too have a diabetic 50+ DH who we hope will get the vaccine before schools go back. He has worked outside the home throughout (no choice) but in a small pool of known people so not the same exposure risk as a school. Having said that we were fully supportive of our two going back in the autumn term. I'm worried that just as they get to group 6 jabs they'll have to go back and start the 12 week boosters on the first cohorts so it will all slow down, but of course it is right that the second jabs should be given too. And actually they are going so fast that group 6 shouldn't be too long. So many dilemmas.

FoolsAssassin · 14/02/2021 11:26

I was going on what our Head was saying in email about the exams consultation and about the uncertainty about what they will be facing this summer. They seem to feel year 13 just that bit more of a priority until there is more certainty about this summer for them.

Agree Year 10 and 12 really important too but they have just that bit longer to sort out and I am hoping that after Easter when vaccine program even further advanced that they are going to get a straight run at it until exams .

DS will be going back whenever allowed, the risk it DH is just something we have to live with. Possibly easier for me to say that as DS not here during the week though.

Frequentflier · 14/02/2021 11:31

DH has a phone appt tom with his GP to make sure he is on the list. To all those with vulnerable and 50 plus DHs do make sure they have not fallen through the cracks. DH had been overlooked as we just moved here so we are chasing. DH works entirely from home so DS is the main risk. He does have his own room and bath. Hope that minimizes the risk.

Zandathepanda · 14/02/2021 11:32

Dd can’t go back before she’s vaccinated. She was doing so well as well. I am hoping theres a group of MPs who are trying to force the situation and this is not going to happen for a few more weeks.

EventuallyDeleted · 14/02/2021 11:43

To be honest we are trying not to worry too much about DH, he doesn't so I try not to either. We're not disinfecting shopping or showering when we get in from work (I work partly outside the home too) or similar, trying to keep things as normal as possible. Otherwise my mental health would take a massive dive - we tried disinfecting shopping for a while last year but it was making me extremely anxious so we stopped again.

Seeline · 14/02/2021 11:44

@shimy I'm guessing your DS1 is at uni? My DS started in September. It has been so hard for them. He turned practically nocturnal before starting - not gaming, but chatting online all night to nocturnal mates. He did at least get up in time for our evening meal so was eating something. He went back to his halls just before we went into lockdown 3. I don't think either him or us could have coped for much longer with him being home.

DD has to log in for registration at 8.30 every morning regardless of when she has lessons,. They have form time and/or assembly too. I get an email if she misses. So far I've had one but that was because her tutor didn't spot her before DD had to log in elsewhere to do her Y6 mentoring session!

All students were wearing masks all day at her school since September. We're in London so rates were very high. Only a few groups were sent home to SI. Certainly not whole year groups. The windows were also all open - I bought thermal vests for her which she actually wore!

Going back is a worry. Both DH and I are over 50 although no health conditions aside from being overweight. Would prefer to avoid it if possible though!

EventuallyDeleted · 14/02/2021 11:44

I think we would know if DH had fallen through any cracks in the system, we haven't moved or changed GP or similar and local social media is keeping us all very up to date with where the vaccination schedule is locally.

EventuallyDeleted · 14/02/2021 11:46

I should add that both DH and I have work where social distancing, hygiene and ventilation etc are possible and being adhered to, so our risks from work are fairly low.

Zandathepanda · 14/02/2021 12:09

DD’s school have put it in an email that they will not social distance nor wear masks. Obviously they can’t social distance. It would make Dd feel safer if others wore masks.
During last term she was told off for not holding hands during an activity. No masks. With someone who was covid positive a few days after. At what point is an A* or A grade worth a potential hospital stay? Or worse. It is difficult to weigh up the risks. If she was not vulnerable it would be so much easier.

Nard75 · 14/02/2021 12:30

I think they will start to vaccine the vulnerable groups fairly soon. My brother in law is over 50 and type 1 diabetic and he has appointment for 1st jab this week. Hopefully this will mean they will get through this group fairly quickly.

Piggywaspushed · 14/02/2021 12:32

There is massive confusion over who is in that group, though...

Piggywaspushed · 14/02/2021 12:35

fools in English, yes. In film, nowhere near! But nay time back will still not get them finished so am hoping the consultation sees sense on unfinished material. Selfishly, I don't want year 11 back. I LOVE my year 11 English class but I have bugger all left to do with them...

Oblomov21 · 14/02/2021 12:51

Tried to book Ds1's driving theory test. Was hoping for soon, after Feb 1/2 term? End of April! 😡

Here is Surrey we are doing really well vaccine wise. I've had mine, Dh had his yesterday. We are locally doing group 7, over 60's and moving onto Group 8, over 55's shortly. Way ahead of the national average, impressive.

Oblomov21 · 14/02/2021 12:54

Frequent, I got Dh's (Type 2, +55's) by chasing GP. I had mine (Type 1) first week of Jan. So, I'd definitely chase.

Oblomov21 · 14/02/2021 12:59

As Shimy says, I particularly like this thread because we are all very welcoming and accommodating. Non judgemental. We are a mixed bunch with all sorts of capabilities, many of us with non-easy Wink children. We are supportive of all those struggling with MH and medical conditions.

Rant away! Grin
