We just want our kids in school. Please. If at all possible.

And driving lessons. And good Mental Health. And happiness.

In-and-amongst all this Covid nightmare and lockdown debacle.

oh no sorry @crazycrofter at least it sounds like you all have it at the same time though so you can do your ten days and not worry about it stretching on and on.

I hate Amazon Prime but it has come good with food orders for us as well as we're stuck indoors.

MirandaWest · 23/12/2020 14:09

Arse. DS just had a thing through from the nhs app telling him he needs to self isolate for 4days. This puts the kibosh on us going down to see my mum and dad on Christmas Day. Presumably this is from contact 6 days ago which would have been at school....he was meant to be meeting up with his girlfriend in about an hour as well (we are in tier 2).

Piggyinblankets · 23/12/2020 14:19

Oh commiserationsmiranda and crazy Sad

They aren't actually meant to do that crazy. Not your problem I know!

crazycrofter · 23/12/2020 17:11

I know @Piggyinblankets but one of them had his granny’s funeral and this allowed him to go. I said to dd it wasn’t strictly correct but it made her feel better about the whole thing.

Piggyinblankets · 23/12/2020 17:16

Fair enough I guess. Really hope the test was accurate and the funeral was all right Sad

Tough times all round.

Never ending cases coming out of DS's sixth form.

crazycrofter · 23/12/2020 17:23

Are you in tier 4 piggy?

icanbewhatiwant · 23/12/2020 17:26

Tier 4 here in Suffolk too from Boxing Day. I can't believe how fast cases have risen. We were 44 per 100,000 2 weeks ago. Now almost 200 per 100,000 so tier 4 was inevitable.

We haven't heard from school yet as to whether they go back on 4th. I'm sure they won't. They must be waiting to see what the situation is.

Piggyinblankets · 23/12/2020 18:23

Yes, tier 4.

Piggyinblankets · 23/12/2020 18:25

Gov busy pushing out lots of back to school guidance for schools, parents today, wheeling Jenny Harries and Robert Jenrick out to reassure us all. They seem very determined to forge ahead.

I was fine before with DS going. No t so sure if self isolation is being scrapped. It's literally Gavin Willaimson's PM target to improve attendance!

Guess we all need to keep everything crossed.

Wheresthebeach · 23/12/2020 18:44

Sorry to hear about Covid @Crazycrofter Fingers crossed for fast recovery.
God knows what Jan will look like.

EwwSprouts · 23/12/2020 20:20

Oh unlucky timing Crofter. Hope recovery comes quickly to you all.

I've finished work & got the turkey! Everything else can be muddled through.

Nard75 · 23/12/2020 20:45

@crazycrofter Hope you are all feeling ok and get through it quickly. At least first week back is online so gives you all time to recover.

crazycrofter · 23/12/2020 21:13

Thanks all. I was really looking forward to two weeks off for Christmas - but to be fair there was nothing to do anyway, other than walks! Hopefully we might feel up to that next week.

And you’re right @Nard75 at least they’re not missing school and won’t have to go in for a while.

Piggyinblankets · 23/12/2020 21:44

Two more cases at DS's sixth from : that's 14 now since Friday.

pasanda · 23/12/2020 22:13

Sorry to hear of all the covid cases! We've so far escaped (apart from ds when he was at uni) but now in tier 4 from Boxing Day. We've been out and about over the last few days so who knows what's to come.

Scary times. Sad

No emails from dt's secondary or dd's college ..... yet. 🤞

FoolsAssassin · 24/12/2020 08:39

The more I think about , the more unhappy I am about daily tests my rather than isolation. DH us clinically vulnerable. We’ve been happy to send DS as feel the benefits outweigh the risks but this policy would increase the risks to a point where I feel very concerned about it.

Very much hope another of the Government U turns come in very soon on this.

Piggyinblankets · 24/12/2020 11:07

East Sussex is advising schools not to engage in the testing. Return to uni ads have been withdrawn after concerns about the reliability of the test...

Monkey2001 · 24/12/2020 11:23

So is the latest announced plan that nobody will self isolate when there is a positive case? We did not like the strategy that the whole year of 250 had to SI for 2 weeks if there was a positive case, but it seems obvious that people who sat right next to the positive case or were close friends need to SI.

I don't have great confidence in the lateral flow tests. DS1 is at St Andrews, they did over 5,000 tests and none were positive, which is either very impressive control or the test did not detect cases. Generally the positive rate in universities from the lateral flow tests has been low.

Obviously the new varient throws everything back in the air anyway. Roll on spring when the most vulnerable will have been fully vaccinated.

Piggyinblankets · 24/12/2020 14:09

Yes, there was a Birmingham study that suggested huge unreliability of these test, unfortunately. Like 3% accuracy...

MirandaWest · 27/12/2020 15:16

How was Christmas everyone?

ExpensivelyDecorated · 27/12/2020 15:36

It was going really well till DD got a message to self-isolate late on Christmas Day. But to be honest it's as good a time as any, we're now tier 4 so nothing to do, nowhere to go, she's disappeared into her room with her phone and just appears to get food or use the bathroom. No symptoms so far.

sandybayley · 27/12/2020 17:09

Sorry to hear that @ExpensivelyDecorated - but as you say there are worse times to have to SI.

Our Christmas was lovely. First time ever just the 5 of us. Lovely meal and atmosphere. No stress!

DD has been out with DH twice in the car. First time went very smoothly, second time today less so. I think I may have to take I over.

Wheresthebeach · 27/12/2020 18:37

Christmas was lovely but a bit of black cloud today. Tier 4 so walking an option....DD has done a schedule for revision which was less than exciting!

Monkey2001 · 28/12/2020 08:55

Ours was more dramatic than we had hoped as DH went in to A&E on Christmas Day with chest pains. I couldn't stay with him because of covid control. We kept thinking he would be released, so held back dinner until he found out at 10:30 that he would have to stay overnight. We had our Christmas dinner at midnight and took his in to be delivered to his bed by a porter. On Boxing Day he was told he would be in for a week as it was a heart attack and he needed a stent, which will be done on Tuesday or Wednesday. We will not be allowed to see him until he gets out. So memorable for all the wrong reasons!

Luckily we did presents after midnight mass so that bit was good and DSs and GFs are getting stuck into jigsaw puzzles.

sandybayley · 28/12/2020 08:58

Bloody hell @Monkey2001 that's awful. Thank heavens he's going to be ok and thank heavens for the NHS.

It's feeling like very retro Christmas with obsessive jigsaw doing, card games and long walks here.
