Hello, I know there’s an excellent thread for the girls. Not sure if there’s one for the boys? Anyone want to come on board? I know we can’t divulge details of round two grammars since there will be late sitters, but was thinking more of a support thread. Any takers?

No box here either!

Happyfour · 14/12/2020 17:01

@lookhappy the note in the box says ‘as we can’t invite you to the school, we thought we would send Hampton to your home’.
I was told ‘Friday’ by the admissions team as I had to contact then about my application and they mentioned it.

EnolanotAlone · 14/12/2020 17:59

@Happyfour welcome along with such wonderful news - how lucky for your DS - the box is incredibly promising and such a kind guesture.. Enoy the spoils. No box here. Just amazon deliveries, who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Happyfour · 14/12/2020 18:07

@EnolanotAlone mmm not sure he’s going to get through to be honest, he’s been terribly unlucky so far, everything he’s sat he hasn’t qualified, I doubt he will get through but we are keeping everything crossed as the state school near us isn’t great.

Jumpalicious · 14/12/2020 18:18

@Happyfour everything crossed! The box does sound promising. The note indicates they wished you could visit!

Re unlucky. Hampton is one of the very hardest schools... as are all of the SW grammars. It’s tough! Did you apply for any “easier” indie schools? (if any such schools even exist any more!)

GrammarHopeful · 14/12/2020 18:50

No box here either, just in case anyone was wondering!

Also, email from Trinity earlier today made me chuckle. Basically, it said: "RTFM! and stop harassing us with the same questions!" Grin

NoToMisogyny · 14/12/2020 18:56

I think the box was for those who didn’t do the ISEB at Hampton because the boys who sat it there got the same box as they left.

Jumpalicious · 14/12/2020 19:01

@NoToMisogyny ah but we didn’t sit the Iseb at Hampton, and haven’t had the magical box either...

@grammar - we didn’t apply to trinity (only Whitgift) was it Iseb also?

OP posts:
Happyfour · 14/12/2020 19:11

@NoToMisogyny that makes total sense. We didn’t sit the exam at Hampton.

NoToMisogyny · 14/12/2020 19:13

Hopefully your box is on the way @jumpalicious! Seems strange to send it now when some boys are days from getting a no!

GrammarHopeful · 14/12/2020 19:25

@Jumpalicious Yep, it was ISEB too. We did the opposite of you, Trinity, but not Whitgift.

Also, same as you re Hampton: DS sat his ISEB at KCS.

PitNicking · 14/12/2020 19:28

DS didn’t sit it at Hampton either and didn’t get a box! I think it can only be a positive sign to get one - seems more likely that they’d send things to prospective students than ones they weren’t inclined to invite back so I wouldn’t worry @Happyfour

GrammarHopeful · 14/12/2020 19:37

All shall be revealed later this week, but I tend to agree with @PitNicking!

BookShark · 14/12/2020 19:45

Argh! This is why I should stay away from Mumsnet until it's all done. I'm now trying to read something into the fact DS hasn't received a box, despite the fact it's probably just the post being rubbish. Hurry up Friday!

PitNicking · 14/12/2020 19:51

I think it’s the post @BookShark! If I had to guess whether getting a box was a positive sign or a negative one, I’d say positive but I also think the most likely scenario is that they’ve sent them to everyone who didn’t sit at Hampton and the post is shite so not everyone has received them yet.

Either way, it’s not long before we’ll know for sure and can abandon reading the tea leaves Grin

MumboJumbo20 · 14/12/2020 20:38

We received a yellow “Hello from Hampton” box too but my DS applied for the advanced place 10+, sat exam in Nov and secured a place to start in Sept 2022. I ate the Skittles, it was a nice touch. Hopefully the box is positive news for you but for those who haven’t had one yet, please don’t read too much into it as hopefully your boxes are on their way. The comms from Hampton has been excellent and even after DS got his offer, they’ve made a real effort of staying in touch. Their Admissions team are a friendly and professional bunch.

MumboJumbo20 · 14/12/2020 20:43

Oh and DS sat exam at Hampton (not ISEB) and had interview there and no box was given on the day. We can’t read too much into these things as it’s all second guessing.

EnolanotAlone · 14/12/2020 20:43

Thanks @PitNicking I sincerely hope your right, over two weeks since ISEB is now playing serious havoc with ones sanity and ability to see reason.

Happyfour · 14/12/2020 21:29

Agree, we sat the ISEB at the end of November and feel like it was a really long time ago.
We practised with Atom and thought DS was doing ok but when he sat the actual exam he finished early! I’m not taking it as a good sign given how his friends who all have done extremely well and may be offered spaces at the grammars just about finished the ISEB with hardly any time time left 😐

imalondoner · 15/12/2020 10:25

I heard from City Boys (11+) and Westminster (13+) last Friday inviting my DS for the 2nd round and interviews. Kings have said they will let us know in January if our DS made to the next level.

Has anyone heard from St Paul’s Boys either for 11+ or 13+ yet? Any idea when they would email to let us know? The website says mid-December so I am hoping this week but was curious to know if anyone had heard yet.

lookhappy · 15/12/2020 14:20

@imalondoner. Don't know about SPBS, sorry. Perhaps end of this week going by the plans of a couple of other schools plus the Sutton grammars (= tomorrow). We applied to City too. Well done on getting through to the second round. How did your son find the exam?

imalondoner · 15/12/2020 15:51

DS felt a bit better about City than ISEB. But even before that he has been tired of us asking that question so I don’t quite trust his response. He’s probably telling what we want to hear. What I know (and am sure it holds true for many) is that he cannot wait to get this over with, one way or the other and get back to a normal life :)

Banners75 · 15/12/2020 19:14

St Paul’s Boys emails were sent out this afternoon for second round stage.

realitybites1 · 15/12/2020 19:27

@Banners75

St Paul’s Boys emails were sent out this afternoon for second round stage.
Hi, was this for 11+ or 13+? We are waiting to hear for 13+...
TheatreTaxi · 16/12/2020 11:25

@realitybites1, emails for St Paul's Boys 13+ second stage are out today. Hope it's good news for your DS!
