Hi all! DD1 is starting secondary this year! She's very nervous about the travel (train and bus) but definitely looking forward to it Smile. Any other new year 7s?

DS started today. He was very excited but I’m just counting down the minutes until he comes home 😂

Howcanwehelp · 02/09/2020 12:54

Can i join? I have twins starting seperate schools tomorrow. I thought I was organised but sent dh out today for slightly smaller trousers and glue sticks for the boys. I think I'm more nervous then they are but I had the worst time at secondary school. Ds 1 will be driven to school, with ds2 being dropped on the way to walk with friends but tomorrow I'll drive him to friends to get first day photos of his group.
I can't believe my babies are going to big school!

Oblomov20 · 02/09/2020 18:56

Ds2 starts tomorrow, he's looking forward to it. No nerves. Ds1 is starting at the school 6th form, different site though.

JoyceByersWasRight · 02/09/2020 19:05

@KangarooLady, how's your DD? Poor thing, happened to me just before starting secondary too. So many changes!

Hope all went well for those that started today? My DD starts tomorrow- just cleaned off her Mandy nail varnish and run her a bath, she stinks! I want her to at least look presentable on her first day.

Got an email from the school this afternoon telling us that the children will be sitting a test tomorrow (do schools have any idea how anxiety provoking that is?, what were they thinking??).

Good luck to all those starting tomorrow Flowers

DMCWelshcakes · 02/09/2020 19:06

DiddyDragon starts tomorrow. She's been excited up to now but we've just had tears about being scared of going on the bus. It's totally a cover for her new school anxiety as she's good at buses and has had a few practice runs at where she needs to walk when she gets to the other end.

I'm going to do some pilates with her & then send her off for a bubble bath.

Thankfully her period was last week (and it was horrible) so at least that's one less thing to worry about tomorrow.

We had an email from one school today regarding starting tomorrow. They must have hair longer then a grade 2 and no piercings / earrings in. Exsisting piercings must be left as holes. Surely a day before is a bit late?

KangarooLady · 02/09/2020 19:17

@JoyceByersWasRight, she's been alright today, she was quite upset and stressed this morning (found out we had to go emergency shopping again for more gear and she stresses very easily). She says she has had some achey-type cramps but otherwise she is feeling ok.All my kids are going to bed at 8 today (DD3, starting primary tomorrow, has already gone) so that they aren't tired for the first day back as they haven't been to school for a while, and DD1 now has to get up a 6 for the train. Everything is ready for tomorrow, emergency shopping has been done and she's calmed down now. She's now watching a film with DD2 and DS, she seems to be prepared for her first day now!

Yikes @Howcanwehelp! Hopefully not all your school's information comes that late!

How were all the DC who started today's first days?

Howcanwehelp · 02/09/2020 19:31

@KangarooLady there's an app to download but dh tried to do it tonight and it didn't recognise our details. With two secondary schools I'm worried about missing things as it is.

Meredusoleil · 02/09/2020 19:53

My dd1 said she had a good day! She was so excited in the morning, that she ended up being the first student to arrive at the school 🤦🏻‍♀️

KangarooLady · 02/09/2020 19:59

Grin @Meredusoleil-at least she's enthusiastic! Better to be early than late Smile

DD is now in bed, hopefully she will be ok sleeping as when something new or exciting us happening the day after she generally doesn't sleep much. DH is out somewhere finishing the hay bale stacks. I can't believe my little girl is starting big school!

Well done to all the first-daters and all the best for those who still have it to come.

I’m angry that a school would think it’s in any way acceptable to do a test on the first day in the best of times and this isn’t the best of times.

Lots of anxiety here for first day tomorrow but I know in reality she’s got it good. Short journey so no early starts, thoughtful school so it’s fun stuff to begin with.

JoyceByersWasRight · 02/09/2020 20:24

@KangarooLady - I’m glad your DD is okay, don’t suppose many of them will get much sleep tonight (or is parents!). My DD is in bed with some warm milk and a book (won’t last, she’s terrible for bed usually).

@ Meredusoleil - glad it went well, roll on day 2!

tywysoges · 02/09/2020 21:29

Just stopping by to wish everyone a great first day tomorrow - and hopefully it all went well for those starting today. Star

KangarooLady · 02/09/2020 21:33

Just went upstairs to check on my DC, DD is saying she's going to miss the train and she's scared everything will go wrong. She's stopped crying now but when I left the room after reassuring her she started crying again. I'm about to read her some of her favourite book and she has had some milk and my lavender bag. She asked me to stay so I'm sleeping in a sleeping bag next to her bed tonight! Night all, sweet dreams to all the other DC!

JoyceByersWasRight · 02/09/2020 21:48

Ah, @KangarooLady, what a good mum you are. Just what she needs. Hope you both manage to get some sleep, fingers crossed for tomorrow, I'll be thinking of your DD.

Mine, on the other hand has told me I can walk some of the way with her (she's going by herself as no friends going her way, and there is a slightly dodgy bit), but I must follow at a distance! Grin

WeakandWobbly · 02/09/2020 22:44

My DD was so excited that she was up at 4am today, saying it felt like Christmas eve! She had a good first day, but was completely overloaded with all the new rules like one-way systems in corridors, masks, hair must be in a bun (no ponytail) new faces. It was all too much that she went straight to bed for a couple of hours before dinner. Might brave the school bus tomorrow as she wanted me to drive her today. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the support. It's nice to see how everyone is getting on.

DMCWelshcakes · 02/09/2020 22:45

I think DiddyDragon is asleep. Unfortunately she has a high sleeper so I can't check if she remembered to remove her nail varnish & file her nails as I asked her to.

Place your bets on how likely I am to be finding emergency acetone in the morning!

Howcanwehelp · 03/09/2020 06:35

Good luck to those starting today. We tried for an early night last night but it was around 9 when both were asleep. Just doing a last minute checklist in my head before I get up.

1happyhippie · 03/09/2020 06:46

My youngest is off to secondary today.
She feels quite excited, I’m a bag of nerves 😂

She is my youngest and has sen, nothing has been put in place for her started this new school.
I have been emailing and phoning the school to find out what’s going to happen.
She struggles socially and hates change so this is such a test!
She will be walking to school and didn’t have anyone to walk to with on her first day.
Dd1 has agreed to walk her in today so that helps.
I am pleased I’m working all day to keep my mind off it.
Good luck to all new starters.

KangarooLady · 03/09/2020 07:02

Just back home from waving DD off at the train station, she didn't cry any more last night, she was up quite early today, ready and raring to go! She will take the bus most days to the station but I thought I'd give her a lift so I could wave her off. Wishing all the DC the best possible day at their new school! Smile

first day of school tomorrow.
haircut today.
really not looking forward to the relentless commute as I have to drive daily until the buses are safe reliable and at normal capacity. which may be never.
