My daughters starting high school in September.
She doesn't want 'kids' Clark's anymore but we have no idea what is cool for high school.
Can anyone suggest where we should be looking please and what for?
They can't be trainers. Must be entirely black, no obvious logos and polishable!

What size? Dd wears Clarks ladies hamble oak brogues

dalrympy · 03/08/2020 20:48

Mostly they wear brogues at DDs school or plain DMs

user1471530109 · 03/08/2020 20:49

Brogues. Said as a secondary teacher and mum who has just bought some for her dd (admittedly year 6).

alwaysinpjs · 03/08/2020 21:07

Oh this is interesting - we saw some today and she was horrified you could even buy shoes like that! I think she still had a lot to learn!
She's a size 2

Dd wore brogues from y5 through to end of y11.

Lougle · 03/08/2020 21:12

Check the rules carefully. At our school, the shoe has to have a discrete heel, but it must also be less than 2 cm. That rules out many of the 'ballet slipper' styles, but also lots of the more sturdy styles. Brogues are a popular choice.

dancemom · 03/08/2020 21:13

Brogues or DM shoes here

alwaysinpjs · 03/08/2020 21:13

@Lougle they don't have to have a heel but must have a strap. Any heel can't be more than 4cm

My dd wore ballet shoes right the way through high school including in the snow

She's just finished year 11

user1471530109 · 03/08/2020 21:14

OP, I would imagine it depends on the school and the area as to what is THE shoe to wear. Could you ask someone with an older child? Is their maybe a Facebook group for parents? There usually is.

xyzandabc · 03/08/2020 21:15

DD is at an all girl's school and says it's either brogues or DMs generally. She has always had some kind of brogue as she has super narrow feet and nothing else fits well enough.

user1471530109 · 03/08/2020 21:15

*is there...Blush

Must have a strap?? So no lace ups allowed at all?

HelloDulling · 03/08/2020 21:17

Lace up brogues. I work in a school of 500 girls. Almost every single one wears the same style. Inc my DD.

M0mmyneedswine · 03/08/2020 21:19

Depends on area, never seen any girls here wear brogues all in DM or vans

CallarMorvern · 03/08/2020 21:20

The few that wear shoes at our school wear brogues. DD wore M&S ones for years, as Clarks kid's brogues made her ankles bleed. A few wear black leather converse, but most wear trainers.

CallarMorvern · 03/08/2020 21:22

Do an image search for events at your school and see what the other kids are wearing.

Elephantscantfly · 03/08/2020 21:25

My daughter is Y10 and has worn these or similar for years www.marksandspencer.com/kids-leather-lace-up-brogues-school-shoes-13-small-7-large-/p/clp60256873?color=BLACK
I work in a different, large, strict secondary and similar to these are very popular for all years, my daughter says they’re comfy too!

HelloDulling · 03/08/2020 21:28

Ours are not allowed either of these. OP, you need to check the regulations.
Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 03/08/2020 21:29

Brogues or t bar ones are popular here

Elephantscantfly · 03/08/2020 21:36

No trainers or vans, kickers or DM’s in the school I work in, it’s well worth checking the schools guidelines/policy in advance. We isolate many kids in the first week for the wrong uniform. It’s an expensive mistake to make. I always say to new parents that just because it’s being sold as school uniform, doesn’t mean it’s the school uniform that acceptable in your child’s school.

Beachcomber74 · 03/08/2020 21:38

Ahhh just getting sentimental now DD is size
8 the thought of a size 2 takes me back!!
Back to the question Brogues or DMs here.

Hersetta427 · 03/08/2020 22:20

My daughter has just finished year 8 and has M&S children's leather lace up brogues. They go up to an adult size 7 so we have have size 5, size 6 and just purchased a 7.

GolfForBrains · 03/08/2020 22:29

DD has just finished yr7 and has been wearing brogues for a couple of years now (Startrite in her case). Most of her friends also wear brogues. Kickers are allowed at her school but you have to colour in the labels as they have to be plain black! If they have to walk any distance to school ballet shoe style aren't that practical and Vans, Converse etc are not allowed.
