Girls shoes! Year 7

My daughters starting high school in September.
She doesn't want 'kids' Clark's anymore but we have no idea what is cool for high school.
Can anyone suggest where we should be looking please and what for?
They can't be trainers. Must be entirely black, no obvious logos and polishable!

DD wore Clarks brogues (the slim school shoe ones) in KS3 and 4 (the same pair for a couple of years as her feet stopped growing and we are close to school) then in sixth form she wore lace up DMs which were so cool and also vv hardwaring, still look great after three years.

I'm staggered that a school won't allow DMs, that's poor. When I taught, some kids wore trainers (not supposed to) but most girls wore Vans (acceptable if plain black) or DMs, either lace or buckle. A few wore ballet flats but they are not really practicable as you move around school a lot and of course you have to get there, which could be a two-mile walk.

op I would check with the school what is not allowed (must be on website) then ask someone with an older dd at the school.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 04/08/2020 05:18

The school my daughter is going to wont allow DM shoes (thats pretty kuch what I wore!)

I emailedthe school to check patent brogues are okay (clarks patent seem to last so much longer amd easier to look after) so thats us sorted. As said above, expensive maistake if not!

I've seen in the chat that some kids from other primaries are seeing what trainer style they can get away with but as our primary never allowed that she isn't going there.

The verh local school they all seem to be in slipon shoes.

milkysmum · 04/08/2020 06:02

Yep another one saying brogues definitely seem to be the in style at the moment. My dd is going up to high school in September, all the girls wore these last year and still are doing it would seem. ( I also wear them for work!) some thing like these look good for school?

Reading threads like these it astonishes me just
how much more strict schools are becoming over uniform.

It's amazing how restrictive they are over shoes - which considering how varied feet are, how far children can walk and how important it is to look after you feet is just so stupid.

And I always mention this - of the 5 secondary schools is my area the 2 that focus mostly on strict uniform, isolation for any perceived beach and are image focussed are performing much lower than the other 3. And the other 3 who have some spectrum of choice in uniform (for example show choice isn't so limited) have far less issues with children not adhering, far more of a positive with is and much better outcomes because focus is on teaching and learning

milkysmum · 04/08/2020 06:07

Or these?

But yeah brogues were the thing for girls in ds secondary or leather converse

ChangingStates · 04/08/2020 06:16

Mostly kickers at my dd's secondary, although she's asking for dms for September

Goyle · 04/08/2020 06:20

Just bought some DM Mary Janes for my daughter. Very popular at her school. Also, brogues and Kicker shoes (the boots are banned).

Goyle · 04/08/2020 06:23

Sorry missed that DMs weren't allowed. At our school converse, vans, and any trainers are not allowed. Also no heels higher than 2cm.

I agree. I think uniform requirements are very outdated and may have been appropriate in the past but not today. While any black shoes should be allowed, I'd argue that children can learn just as well without any shoes.

Lace up brogues

Meredusoleil · 04/08/2020 08:10

Useful post OP!

My dd1 is also starting
secondary school and flat out refuses any of the sturdy lace up ones but likes flimsy soled brogues which some of her friends have been wearing in primary already. As she has to wear orthotic inner schools, they are not an option!

So I've just bought her the next size up patent buckle Mary Jane style shoes that she usually wears. Just a bit concerned that the patent is not OK as the uniform rules say polishable shoes!!!

Meredusoleil · 04/08/2020 08:11

Inner soles not inner schools!

Hoppinggreen · 04/08/2020 08:12

All brogues or similar at DDs school. She finds the Clarke’s hamble oaks too chunky but has a slimmer version from there, no idea what they are called

Hersetta427 · 04/08/2020 09:11

These are the ones we have used for 2 years. They have lovely padding around the ankle for are very comfy and not hard at all. They also come in a patent leather style if you are so inclined.

Brouges

KangarooLady · 04/08/2020 10:59

Op, my DD is also starting year 7 and she has these from the Clarks outlet www.clarksoutlet.co.uk/p/55838017
They look pretty sturdy as she needs to take a train to school.

netflixismysidehustle · 04/08/2020 12:11

@milkysmum looks perfect for secondary.

CallarMorvern · 04/08/2020 15:39

Those wouldn't be allowed at DD's school as the soles and edging have to be black. Although trainers and leather Converse are allowed they just have to be all black and logos Sharpied over. They aren't strict about uniform, DD has blue hair, but footwear has to be completely black and blazers worn at all times.

VincaMinor · 06/08/2020 13:43

The dcs' school allow Kickers as they think they are sturdy and hard wearing, so dd1 wore those. They lasted well.
Dd2 going into year 9 didn't want lace ups so wore these loafers and they are quite sturdy too and have lasted well. www.clarks.co.uk/c/Scala-Shine-Youth/p/26142829?CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=78028449084&CATCI=aud-477252143991:pla-296624071193&cm_mmc=PPC_SHOP_TM_GOOGLE--G_UK_PS_dA_TG_SHOP_Boys_School_FullPrice--G_UK_PS_dA_TG_SHOP_Boys_School_FullPrice-_-PLA&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=CjwKCAjw1K75BRAEEiwAd41h1PFKxAFH36C1mZzPn7343KbZjlddge8EVhaLKVkQE8sNnzDkFX_xVBoCH_kQAvD_BwE
I've noticed that Clarks put a sort of gripping material on the inside back heel so they don't slip.

SE13Mummy · 07/08/2020 00:30

All black DM or Kickers shoes are recommended by DD1's school. She has DMs and that's what DD2 has chosen for when she starts in September. Because of features of the school site, students are expected to wear sturdy shoes that will keep their feet dry. No ballet pumps, canvas shoes or leather Converse.

Other local girls' schools specify shoes must be entirely black i.e. no coloured stitching such as often found on DMs and Kickers. These days, both brands do all-black ranges so girls there no longer need to colour in the stitching with a black Sharpie!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/08/2020 15:06

Kickers seem to be the shoe brand of choice for most school-age teen girls.

CallarMorvern · 07/08/2020 15:11

All black DM or Kickers shoes are recommended by DD1's school.

Wow, DMs are so, so expensive though. DDs school at least tries to be inclusive, by just saying anything that's all black. No one wears ballet pumps, it's just not something that teens would wear here.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/08/2020 17:58

DD's Kickers are entering their third year now and not that much more expensive than Clarks school shoes.

AveEldon · 07/08/2020 19:11

Kickers and DMs are banned at our school

Black lace up brogues work okay

CallarMorvern · 07/08/2020 22:38

DD's Kickers are entering their third year now and not that much more expensive than Clarks school shoes

Kickers seem fine (I quite fancy a pair of the T-Bars myself!), but no one at DDs school wears them. DMs however are £110...Jesus.
