@RedskyAtnight our DD is exactly the same and fussy at the best of times for clothing. We went shopping a couple of weeks ago but she didn't like anything. I really wish she still had to wear a uniform. Fortunately she can wear jeans but she doesn't even have enough outfits (which she would consider school worthy) to last a week. It's not helped that she is tall and very thin so can only shop in tall ranges and these aren't carried in local shops. She always complains that every shop has a petite range though.

RedskyAtnight · 11/08/2020 15:22

That is a good point Easily He could wear his old school trousers and shirt if necessary. I'll suggest that :)

In other news, John Swinney has just said that they will revert to teacher assessed grades in Scotland (but those with higher grades will be allowed to keep them). Will this have a knock on impact to England, I wonder?

RedskyAtnight · 11/08/2020 15:23

mumma My DD is petite and none of the petite ranges fit her!! I swear clothing ranges only cater for the average middle.

LillyM50 · 11/08/2020 15:23

All downgraded results in Scotland will be reversed, says Swinney. No increased grades adjusted also. I wonder how ofqual will respond to this?

0DimSumMum0 · 11/08/2020 15:24

#desertcoffeeyoga and #aibuquestions yes I remember you too! Gosh hasn't a lot happened since then?! I actually didn't realise that most schools were waiting to release the results all together. Here's hoping that Edexcel and the other boards are also fair. Good luck to everyone

beenrumbled · 11/08/2020 15:24

Will the retraction of the downgraded results in Scotland have any impact on A Level and GCSE results.. i have a DD waiting for GCSE and a DS waiting for A levels.

Cherryonthetop2019 · 11/08/2020 15:27

So Scotland have now said that any student that had been graded downwards will get their CAG. If England doesn’t follow suit it will be extremely unfair!!!!!!

Shimy · 11/08/2020 15:28

All downgraded results will be reversed??? WHAAATShock. Well if that doesn’t happen in England then Abraham’s still alive!

aibuquestions · 11/08/2020 15:28

All downgraded grades withdrawn and grades reissued with the teacher predictions. What a U Turn. Surely Ofqual need to do similar?

EasilyDelighted · 11/08/2020 15:31

Wow! That is quite a turnaround.

lifeafter50 · 11/08/2020 15:32

Brilliant coup by Nicola Sturgeon!
I know it probably wasn't intended, but actually looks better for her to acknowledge mistake and decisively reverse it, rather than it all working out well first time.
When I worked in business, customers gave better reviews when a problem has been swiftly fixed than when there had been none.
She has also forced the issue with England who will have choice but to follow her suit swiftly or have massive backlash and have to ultimately do it anyone. She is a canny politician!Grin

Rhubardandcustard · 11/08/2020 15:38

Fab result for Scotland. Well done Nicola. Should have been this from the very start, let’s hope English politicians follow her lead.

Cherryonthetop2019 · 11/08/2020 15:38

Do we honestly think a Boris will follow suit?

LillyM50 · 11/08/2020 15:44

@Cherryonthetop2019 If he doesn't I think it would be hugely unfair.

Cherryonthetop2019 · 11/08/2020 15:46

@LillyM50 well it certainly won’t do anything to strengthen the union if not!

EwwSprouts · 11/08/2020 15:46

I think England A levels need to do the same otherwise those students are disadvantaged in the university scramble for places. Unless drop off of international students has created enough spaces for all?

Janie74 · 11/08/2020 15:46

Wow! I hope this also results in positive news for our DC - a fantastic result for the Scottish students though! Grin

desertcoffeeyoga · 11/08/2020 15:48

@0DimSumMum0 thanks !

Oblomov20 · 11/08/2020 15:50

He literally can't, can he Cherry? Shock

desertcoffeeyoga · 11/08/2020 15:54

Scotland have just given a Masterclass to those waiting for exam results in what to do when you F up, which as an adult you are guaranteed to do with alarming regular occurrence: own up, apologise, propose and implement a solution. It now seems that those in most need of a lesson is BoJo and Co. Of they don't follow suit it will be nothing short of an omnishambles

desertcoffeeyoga · 11/08/2020 15:54

If **

desertcoffeeyoga · 11/08/2020 15:56

@Ewwsprouts good point re: Int students - there will be more spaces but the drop in income means there are some saying they are close to hitting the wall

Devlesko · 11/08/2020 15:59

Would just like to confirm that dd's friends who got English, History and Drama results were all happy with their results.
The ones expected to do well did, and they were really what they got in their mocks/ plus teacher assessment.
Not had any reports of complaints, but of course, just one school.

Monkey2001 · 11/08/2020 16:03

DS2 does not want CAGs to be awarded as grades as he says he could not be proud of his grades if they are given too lightly and it devalues the top grades. It will be a real problem for universities which over-offer on the basis that not everybody will get the grades.

I don't think English and Scottish students are competing for the same university places in general, Scottish students tend to stay in Scotland because it is free and the Scottish universities have separate numbers for Scottish/EU and rest of UK because the funding is different. I think it is very unlikely that England will follow suit, but if not too late for GCSEs, maybe they might allow more of the higher grades than they had proposed.

If I was OFQUAL I would not want to start from here!

aibuquestions · 11/08/2020 16:04

Politically for BoJo also- if 2 whole year groups of kids and their parents ( who will be of voting age by the next election) are angry about how he handles results by not doing the same as Scotland surely that would incentivize him to follow suit?
