Sturgeon saying they have made a big mistake and going to correct it?
Blimey!

Btw, we will probably post 100 messages before next Thursday. Let's get the new thread in mind now. We don't want to be struggling to find new thread at the last minute!

aibuquestions · 11/08/2020 07:34

does anyone have any info on how CIE A level and GCSEs have gone today? the hashtag is mainly negative but that could be a minority?

JMG1234 · 11/08/2020 08:10

My son got his CIE GCSE results in two Englishes and History this morning. His grades were higher than I'd hoped for, and his friends received similar, so hoping that's a good sign for the main set next week in terms of the media articles on downgrading.

OrangeCinnamon1 · 11/08/2020 08:13

Was just thinking that @Oblomov20 thanks! and @FoolsAssassin we need to ;
Stay in Secondary (because others might not be going on to Higher Ed)

Use the wonderful title
GCSE summer 2020 thread 7 - Carry on Corona Cohort + pithy title
I don't know why but I keep thinking of 'up the Kaiber' when I read the title back. But we need to think of something as we get nearer. Depends on if we miss or hit results day.

I say we might need a new thread before results day at this rate!

OrangeCinnamon1 · 11/08/2020 08:15

Congratulations to your son @jmg1234 Star any celebrations to be had?

OrangeCinnamon1 · 11/08/2020 08:17

Good point @aibuquestions we do have to remember that the obes who post are the ones most likely to be upset.

0DimSumMum0 · 11/08/2020 08:23

Also predicted or higher here, as with most of my sons friends.

JMG1234 · 11/08/2020 08:23

Thank you, he worked really hard so deserved his grades but think we'll wait to celebrate until the rest are in! I'm not one for parental academic showing off but just wanted to say that his friends have got 8s and 9s to give others confidence that the grades this year may well be fair. And hopefully not to worry too much about the noise in the media about large scale downgrades.

OrangeCinnamon1 · 11/08/2020 08:31

Well done to your son @0dimsummum0

Thanks for thinking of us to reassure both!

Janie74 · 11/08/2020 08:39

Congratulations to your DC @0DimSumMum0 and @JMG1234! That must be a huge relief Smile

There is a mixed bag on Twitter but as I keep telling my DD, people often go on Twitter to express outrage, so it needs to be kept in perspective.

Did the IGCSE follow the same assessment protocol as normal GCSEs and A-Levels?

Oblomov20 · 11/08/2020 08:45

Congratulations to Dimsum and JMG.

Oblomov20 · 11/08/2020 08:55

Btw I've just realised that I've been here since the very beginning, since thread 1. And what an extremely pleasurable 'ride' it been over the last 2 years, with you very lovely ladies.

Informative, knowledgeable, supportive, no-nonsense and straight talking. No nastiness, no scorn over the brightest, nor the struggling. Nothing.

We commiserate each other when things go wrong. Congratulate and celebrate each other if any dc achieves anything nice, from a music exam to DoE.

We always welcomed newbies, and told them how nice it was here, (compared to some bloody MN threads which are just vile) but I don't think some appreciated how nice it is!

What a pleasure. Thank you all.

AnneOfCleavage · 11/08/2020 08:57

That sounds encouraging to hear 0Dim and JMG - very well done to your DC👏👏 Roll on next Thursday for our results and good luck and 🤞🤞for A Level results this Thursday.

I've prepared my DD for lower than expected grades so it's just a waiting game. Just have to hope she gets what she needs for A Level and passes what she needs to to enable her to proceed with future life choices (maths, english, science etc).

EwwSprouts · 11/08/2020 09:08

ODIM & JMG Congratulations to your DC. Lovely to hear positive news after watching the two poor girls from Scotland on the news this morning.

0DimSumMum0 · 11/08/2020 09:11

Thank you! I'm sure they will all get what they rightly deserve! Now for the wait for the next big release next week.

Northumberlandlass · 11/08/2020 09:17

Congratulations to your DC @0DimSumMum0 & @JMG1234 🥳 You must all be very relieved!

JMG1234 · 11/08/2020 09:36

Just to say thank you for the nice words. I've been following this thread for a while and it's been very helpful but I'm often a bit scared to post on Mumsnet!

Congratulations to all the others who got their results today and wishing everyone the best of luck for the 20th.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 11/08/2020 09:36

Well said, Oblomov!
I’ve also been here since day 1, and DD is our eldest child, which has made this space even more important to me.
It’s been an extraordinary experience, with some twists and turns, and I hope we’re all able to see it through together, in a just as positive and supportive way. WineFlowers

RoiseCap · 11/08/2020 09:36

Brilliant news @0DimSumMum0 and @JMG1234!! Well done do your DC. Hopefully the trend will continue on this thread.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 11/08/2020 09:37

Congratulations to those who’ve received results today!

LillyM50 · 11/08/2020 09:42

Many congratulations also to all of you who received their results today.

KingscoteStaff · 11/08/2020 09:58

Well done CIE chaps!

DD’s school are holding her 2 Cambridge grades until the 20th to release them all together. I can’t decide whether this is a good or bad thing...

Monkey2001 · 11/08/2020 10:16

Congratulations @0DimSumMum0 and @JMG1234, and thanks for sharing encouraging news. Glitterball

Wheresthebeach · 11/08/2020 10:21

Glad the news is good! Congrats all round.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 11/08/2020 10:53

Well done to those positive results today, must be such a relief after all they've been through. Flowers
