Just that really. We need to move house and the main factor is trying to find the best secondary for DS. Cannot afford private or religious schools - and really not sure that he'd pass an exam for Grammar. So if you have to move (ideally zones 2-3) which one would you target? Our local comp is terrible and everything else around here is private. Most of our friends have moved out of London for schools, but we're very reticent to do so.....any suggestions???

Intel ...

Many private schools offering new scholarships - as international families now not moving - owing to Covid.

My nephew, just snuffled a place 75% of fees paid !! Hampstead school - northern line so easy access from most of London.

Central Foundation Boys School in Islington is a properly mixed comprehensive which gets amazing results without any OTT discipline. The staff & students appear to genuinely like each other. It is very very diverse & takes boys across the ability range. The music provision is great too. The location (Old St roundabout) is about as central as you can get & the school are good at hitting up their city neighbours (eg mentoring from law firms). The building itself is a bit old fashioned but there’s a big redevelopment at the moment. I would definitely go & have a look, the head is fabulous.
