Thread 3
Thread 2
Thread 1(year 10)

Hope OrangeCinnamon doesn’t mind me starting another in her absence , feel twitchy without ! Apologies in advance if I have messed the links up.

The last thread ended with discussion of possible school closures, not really what we want to hear at this point - let’s hope things sound more positive as thread progresses.

They will need time to sort this.

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn

I don't think telling him that they'll change their minds is very helpful. The Prime Minister has been explicitly clear that exams will not be happening, so there is no point continuing preparation as normal and adding unnecessary stress.

There is very little your DS

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/03/2020 17:42

No, he said they will get their qualifications in time (but not said how that reads)

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2020 17:42

Wow, who knew this support thread would be so traumatised?

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/03/2020 17:43

Stormy if I don't he will stop working.

StormyClouds · 18/03/2020 17:45

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn

But there is nothing to work towards- exams are not happening. Don't lie to him and add extra, unnecessary stress at this extraordinarily difficult time.

HPFA · 18/03/2020 17:46

They need to decide very quickly what will happen instead. It's totally unfair to expect 15/16 year olds to have the maturity to carry on working at "exam pace" for exams they know full well they may never sit.

Wheresthebeach · 18/03/2020 17:47

This is absurd. They should have announced what they were going to do. Bloody hell

Alsoplayspiccolo · 18/03/2020 17:48

I can’t comprehend what’s happening.
What do we do now? No school, no exams? Just what do we do??

Wheresthebeach · 18/03/2020 17:48

So schools closed, no exams...and the kids are meant to work on line revising for exams that aren’t happening

PaddingtonPaddington · 18/03/2020 17:49

‘Pupils will get the qualifications they need’ desperately need the details

RazzleDazzle26 · 18/03/2020 17:49

I really hope they quickly announce their plan....they can’t leave them all in a state of flux. Predicted grades seems the only option Hmm

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/03/2020 17:49

Stormy, Boris did not say they are not happening but that they were not happening in May/June. I haven't lied to my son, I said they could change that.

ProggyMat · 18/03/2020 17:51

My DD is in floods of tears, absolutely devastated
I’ve tried to console her and highlighted how well she did at mocks but she’s terrified that there ‘won’t be enough evidence’ to support what she thinks she would have got at the exams proper and doesn’t know what they will predict for her

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2020 17:51

They will come up with a plan. No idea what though. Let you know if I hear anything on the grapevine.

HPFA · 18/03/2020 17:52

The Welsh will be going with assigned grades. Statement here:

C3line · 18/03/2020 17:54

Surely predicted would be fairer

Clutterbugsmum · 18/03/2020 17:56

My dd is devastated, and she in the middle of sitting her second set of mocks until next Tuesday.

Why couldn't he just announce that schools were closing and then when they have worked out what's happening then announce what happening with grading of exams.

Rhubardandcustard · 18/03/2020 17:57

In tears. But it’s ok Boris understands our frustration 😤 no details of how just we will make sure they will get the qualifications they need.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 18/03/2020 17:57

Proggy, that is exactly what DD is saying.
It's just awful, and I don't know what to do or say or think.

C3line · 18/03/2020 17:57

Do you think they’ll take into account the Camhs kids?

DingoDing · 18/03/2020 17:58

DS is delighted. I'm not, but it's hard to see what other option was available. It's not clear yet how grades will be worked out but I wish he'd done some bloody work for his mocks now!

Oakmaiden · 18/03/2020 17:59

The Welsh statement that I posted up thread seemed fairly clear. The exams won't happen and other information will be used to make grades for the students. I would assume the other information will include things like, where available, coursework grades, papers already sat, teacher assessments and if there is no other option, mocks. But mocks are tricky as schools set their own so they vary in quality widely.

C3line · 18/03/2020 18:00

Trying to reassure him it wasn’t his fault re the mocks and everything. Feel like the progress we’ve made with mental health and work has gone out the window.

C3line · 18/03/2020 18:01

Many kids do pull it out the bag. Many won’t have realised the mocks/course work were it. So unfair.
