GCSEs Summer 2020 (thread 4) -the final countdown

Thread 3
Thread 2
Thread 1(year 10)

Hope OrangeCinnamon doesn’t mind me starting another in her absence , feel twitchy without ! Apologies in advance if I have messed the links up.

The last thread ended with discussion of possible school closures, not really what we want to hear at this point - let’s hope things sound more positive as thread progresses.

My DDs school has just emailed that tomorrow is the last day in school, and are moving to virtual lessons on Friday.

Oakmaiden · 18/03/2020 17:26

GCSEs cancelled in Wales.

GCSEs Summer 2020 (thread 4) -the final countdown
RedskyAtnight · 18/03/2020 17:27

So exams cancelled but no indication of what replaces them?

Mominatrix · 18/03/2020 17:27

Shit.

SlayingDragons · 18/03/2020 17:27

Oh my word! No GCSEs or A levels!!!! Did I hear that right from BoJo?

I wonder will all exam boards say the same? CCEA are currently saying that exams will go ahead

Oakmaiden · 18/03/2020 17:28

It will be all exam boards - but they couldn't announce it until BJ did.

Seeline · 18/03/2020 17:29

They can't just say cancelled without explaining what will happen!!

OrangeCinnamon · 18/03/2020 17:29

Can we all still stay on here and supporting each other...we may need it !

Alsoplayspiccolo · 18/03/2020 17:30

Absolutely gutted. DD is hysterical, I'm in tears.

Oakmaiden · 18/03/2020 17:30

@Alsoplayspiccolo

That is so hard. They will miss out on so many of the social "growing up and leaving school" markers. School proms, too...

Very sad for them, but it is a very difficult time.

Mominatrix · 18/03/2020 17:31

DS will be so upset. Rowing season cancelled and now this. He will really be deflated thinking at all of the work he has done was for nothing.

PaddingtonPaddington · 18/03/2020 17:32

OMG What dies it mean? Can’t quite comprehend it. DD in shock and so am I

PaddingtonPaddington · 18/03/2020 17:33

*does

PostNotInHaste · 18/03/2020 17:33

Deep breaths everyone. It's crap but all of them and us will get through it.

Sounds wanky but time to model resilience.

We absolutely should keep these threads going, lots of challenges ahead but all this can be sorted, lost lives can't

RedskyAtnight · 18/03/2020 17:33

DS is pleased. so am I. Even if they go for worst possible contingency plan (which for him, is predicted grades - half of which are fails). He's turned into a rundown fragile mess. Today, for the first time in while, I saw a smile.

The not knowing was the worst thing. I hope that the "whatever replaces them" is announced soon though.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/03/2020 17:33

So 'no exams but we have no other plans about how we deal with that' .Angry

PostNotInHaste · 18/03/2020 17:34

Let's keep them calm and pay close attention to what happens next.

OP posts:
MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 18/03/2020 17:34

DD is absolutely distraught. She has worked so so hard for months.
All of those special times lost. My heart is breaking for her.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/03/2020 17:34

DS's snapchat is going nuts with a million different theories about what will happen now. I have told him to assume that they could change their minds at any time and sudden;y exams will happen. If he thinks the exams are not on he will just stop.

C3line · 18/03/2020 17:36

My son is devastated fell to pieces in mocks, under CAMHS getting back on track and I truely believe would have pulled it off.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/03/2020 17:37

I also have a yr7 and haven't even considered what will happen to his education at this point.

Wrongdissection · 18/03/2020 17:37

Fuck. This is massive. I’m gutted for this year group. DD is in bits.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/03/2020 17:38

I don't mean long term, I mean how he's going to complete this years curriculum. I was assuming DS1 would be finished by Easter so wasn't massively concerned about him being off.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/03/2020 17:39

'in time' ?

peacypops · 18/03/2020 17:41

It is all exam boards yes.
