School shoes for teen DD - Where are you buying yours?

DD needs new black shoes. Preferably lace-up and leather. My usual go to shops are failing me. Where are your teen DD's shoes from and what are they like?

Shoes must be formal shoes and not black leather trainers or plimsols.

Lace ups aren’t allowed and I get ballet style at Tesco or wherever.

burntthepasta · 20/08/2019 20:40

My daughter gets hers from primark

ourkidmolly · 20/08/2019 20:48

@Pipandmum
Laced shoes not allowed? How peculiar. What's the reasoning there?
DD wears kickers. They're ok. Not brill. She wanted Airforce Nike in black but they'll be banned on the first day.

Black patent Doc Marten lace ups for DD14

youarenotkiddingme · 20/08/2019 20:51

No lace ups? That's the oddest rule I've ever seen. Especially as most kids walk to school!

Have you looked in sports direct? No idea what girls school shoes are like but I get ds from there and they are a reasonable price.

IslandTulip · 20/08/2019 21:15

Dd1 (15) has kickers from Sole Trader.

Startrite brogues here from independent shoe fitters, although you could order online. I believe they go up to size 8 or 9 now (DD is size 7).

raspberryrippleicecream · 21/08/2019 02:07

DD had black Doc Martin shoes at that age. They've lasted really well, and are still useful four years on.

raspberryrippleicecream · 21/08/2019 02:08

Also, the website is very good and has free returns, or did last time I used it.

I’m off to get my daughters shoes tomorrow. Hoping a find a decent pair for her massive size 8 feet. She is only 12 next month. I feel in the next year or two shoe shopping is going to be very difficult if she keeps growing

northerngirl2012 · 21/08/2019 02:19

Last year we got DM black shoes for DD 12 and for the first time ever, she’s outgrown them rather than her shoes falling apart. Bought same again

coldishfeet · 21/08/2019 06:30

Where are you buying DMs from? Are they £100+?

Last 2 years she had boys brogues from Asda for appx. £20! They were large too. Her feet are fairly wide at the front with narrow ankle so a more rounded toe shape is best and a lace system which helps the shoe hug the ankle at the back. I think the Clarke brogues we tried and they weren't a good fit.

Is prefer to spend up to £60 but tempted by the DMs as they'd likely fit well.

TooOldForThisWhoCares · 21/08/2019 06:51

Last year we got some plain leather lace ups from Schuh. Think they were around £30.

foxyknoxy30 · 21/08/2019 06:53

Schuh?

Troels · 21/08/2019 06:59

Dd has had the same style of black leather brogues from Clarks each year, they have lasted well. these

Tigerbandage · 21/08/2019 07:02

Start rite impulsive, chunky brogue up to size 8 available in leather or patent

MsTSwift · 21/08/2019 07:03

Every time I have got cheap shoes from a non shoe shop they have fallen apart. How on earth would £20 Primark shoes survive school? Never again. Clark’s or Russell and Bromley

strawbmilk · 21/08/2019 07:05

I walked past office the other day as they were setting up a window display of back to school shoes x
