School shoes for teen DD - Where are you buying yours?

coldishfeet · 20/08/2019 20:30

DD needs new black shoes. Preferably lace-up and leather. My usual go to shops are failing me. Where are your teen DD's shoes from and what are they like?

Shoes must be formal shoes and not black leather trainers or plimsols.

Yes @foxyknoxy30 Schuh... www.schuh.co.uk/womens/schuh-assure-black-flat-shoes/1316957060/

applepieicecream · 21/08/2019 07:09

M&S are excellent. I bought fir both kids last year and lasted perfectly

ChippyMinton · 21/08/2019 07:10

DMs from Schuh, they do children’s sizes up to 5 for £70. secure.schuh.co.uk/productReview.aspx?icode=2401277020

DD has had hers for 2 years and they look perfect still.

DrWAnker · 21/08/2019 07:16

DMs from Schuh.

bookishtartlet · 21/08/2019 07:16

DMs are popular at my school (teacher). I wear them too, they last forever.yiu have the Mary Jane option if no laces allowed. What benefit does no laces have on learning, I wonder?

MsTSwift · 21/08/2019 07:21

I got some party shoes from m and s after a few wears all the paint chipping off. Can’t imagine getting proper school shoes there

keepingbees · 21/08/2019 07:21

Tk Maxx? I've got my DD some from there before. Or my DS usually finds some he likes in Sports Direct as he hates the stuff in Clark's.

Rhinosaurus · 21/08/2019 07:23

Scala Brogues from Clark’s

Smoothbananagram · 21/08/2019 07:51

Shoe Zone do a great pair of mock DMs for £19.99. www.shoezone.com/Products/Lilley-Womens-Black-Lace-Up-Shoes-15043
Stumbled across them last year when desperately searching for some size 9s for DD1. DD2 (12) has just been measured as a 9.5 Shock but the 9s seem to fit her.

coldishfeet · 21/08/2019 07:55

She's a 6.5, so youth sized DMs out.

I'll check Schuh and M&S and Office. Thanks

We got DD Kangol shoes from Sports Direct for £20. Don't know if they will last the year but I don't mind if not. They are leather and look sturdy enough.

thesunwillout · 21/08/2019 08:10

DD always tried her DM's in Schu for size then I'd find then cheaper online.
Blue Banana one yr.
Instructed to say they didn't fit in whatever expensive shop we were in just for fit.

thesunwillout · 21/08/2019 08:15

Also lasted for 4 yrs!

Jammiebammie · 21/08/2019 08:19

Mine either wear trainers (vans or 97s) or leather boots, usually river island or topshop tbh, but ankle boots would get round the no lace rule, which is a bit daft. You can get more supportive ones from proper shoe shops. What does your dd want to wear?

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 21/08/2019 08:31

Dd going into year 9 and 11. Both wear kickers - I buy them online and can usually find discount codes to use.

burntthepasta · 21/08/2019 09:35

@MsTSwift my dd got hers from primark last September she's 14 and they still look like new. No scuffs or holes, she said she'll probably wear them again in September because there comfy.

BikeRunSki · 21/08/2019 10:22

@Spacerader, i’ve been a size 9 since 1982. There is a lot more choice than there used to be.

IsobelRae23 · 22/08/2019 11:01

NEXT have some nice shoes.

Ds14 is an 11/12, so going to be a nightmare finding a pair, we normally go through two pairs a year too. His last pair were £75 in April, and he needs new again🤬

My DD had these last year.. they're hardly worn down and still fit, so she'll be using them this year too!

Ligresa · 22/08/2019 12:04

dd 13 quite fashion conscious but sporty is going for either kickers t bar or Geox Casey (cheaper) whichever fit her better.

Coldishfeet · 24/08/2019 08:11

Thanks everyone. She's ended up with the chunky startrite ones. They're really well made and fit her feet well.

I gave my 11yr old going into year 7 a pair of the slip one black patent style shoes from Clark’s. I still like to buy from there as they have so far lasted all year for DD and DS (age 15). Despite DS playing football in his.

PerspicaciaTick · 24/08/2019 09:35

Black leather men's brogues from TKMaxx. For the last 3 years she has worn DMs, but she fell in love with the ones in TKMaxx and they were only £35 (compared to £100 for new DMs).

Comefromaway · 25/08/2019 19:18

Dd is in college now but her last few years of school she wore lace up start rite Angry Angels or Geox brogues from an independent shop. Luckily for her ballet flat style shoes were banned as she is unable to wear them due to the construction of her foot and pronation issues. (They are really bad for your feet).

owlmummy · 26/08/2019 18:18

My daughter was campaigning for black leather vans which are on the official banned list but lots of the girls have them. Thankfully I managed to persuade her to go for Clarks and I got them in John Lewis last week with 30% off. Last year we got leather ones in M&S and they lasted the whole school year.
