We live rurally, I normally work part time but am working pretty much full time at the moment (prom suit shopping!!). DS either cycles all the way to town (about 45 minutes) or cycles to the nearest bus stop (about 3 miles), chains the bike up and catches the bus.

When she says she’s bored is it just adjusting to not having to revise? Ds says it feels really weird as it was so much of their focus for so long.

Foslady · 17/06/2019 09:04

Thanks everyone. After the ‘Mayday’ debacle she’s pretty chilled over the German exam - was predicted a 7 but said she’d be happy with a 6, so kind as she gets the 7’s required for 6th form (wants to do 4 A levels as she wants to upgrade her AS Sociology so they have to get not only the 42 points but also a minimum number of 7’s and above). She had a wobble over the maths yesterday - all the end of topic tests she did at school she aced, came to the mock and she totally bombed it to the point of questioning if she took the exam. I’m hoping it’s just nerves because of that, she’s been doing a bit each day, but also reminding her that this is an extra exam, she has the o level and no matter what it’s as if she’s had an extra years worth of prep for A level maths......

Arewedone · 17/06/2019 09:34

Good luck foslady and to anyone else yet to finish. It feels very odd today but in a good way. Dd still in bed.

LosingHerMissMarbles · 17/06/2019 09:56

Typical that I find you all just as it's coming to an end!
Last two days here. German this morning and it's so comforting to hear that others thought the Reading was so awful. My poor DS cried, first and only time in the whole exam season. Anxious about this morning's writing but he's also weary now and just wants it all to finish. Maths tomorrow then we are done.
Hopefully now I've found you I can keep up with how things go, if that's alright?

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 10:22

oh marbles your poor ds Sad bet you can't wait until tomorrow

dd is missing revision I think - she feels she has no purpose (she's over dramatic). She has another party tonight, she is supposed to be staying over but I am going to fetch her as she hasn't successfully stayed over at someones house for years - often a panic attack at 3am Sad. So driving an hour to pick her up at 12.30! She really could do with doing a job or volunteering this summer as she is a bright, friendly teen but gets terribly nervous in large social situations, has a small group of very close friends but doesn't do huge parties. She's much happier in bed with a book and her cat but she can't do that all summer!!

gleegeek · 17/06/2019 10:23

Hi all. Dd went off to German very grumpily today! Such poor exam planning - they should be finishing on a core subject IMO so they're all in it together Angry
Welcome losing how have you survived without us??! This group has kept me sane and convinced me to keep my mouth shut to dd about certain things. I'd have had no clue about most of the gcse month as dd is a done it, move on sort of child, without this lot of lovely people!
Sorry for the 2 exams today - that's doubly cruel! Grrrrr.
Hoping dd won't be bored, she quite likes her own company. I suspect there'll be a lot of baking going on and I'll be the size of a house in time for my friend's wedding in Sept 😂 Um...yes how rural are you? Is it cyclable or busable anywhere? I second trying to get a job or volunteering somewhere. It's tough particularly when the weather is so iffy - last year's summer woukd have been a lovely reward for them.

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 10:27

We are super rural. I think I am going to get her learning to cook and try and get out at least once a week to somewhere local and lovely. I am trying to persuade her to do couch to 5k but she's refusing. She's arranged to volunteer at our local riding for the disabled summer camp (she did it last year and was really good at it and enjoyed herself) so that's something.

Foslady · 17/06/2019 10:40

Apparently the German went well. - best one of them all- phew!
1 down 1 to go!

FreeFreesia · 17/06/2019 10:48

If rural there are wildlife volunteering opportunities in most areas

Iambuffy · 17/06/2019 10:50

Well, ds1 is up.....

OP posts:
Fibbke · 17/06/2019 10:51

The problem is that she can't get anywhere! We have no public transport and no safe cycle routes. Our own fault for moving to a countryside idyll years ago!

I'll keep looking.

FreeFreesia · 17/06/2019 11:06

From the left field, could do this in walking distance & become local expert !

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 11:10

ah ha ha she'd never do that, she's ridiculously squeamish. But I have another child who would love it so thanks for the link!

Arewedone · 17/06/2019 12:25

Fos- that’s a relief no more HermanSmile
Dd still in bedConfused

Iambuffy · 17/06/2019 12:26

Ds has to get dressed at some point today as he has a dental appt at 4 :)

OP posts:
Bimkom · 17/06/2019 14:23

Confused about the further maths options. There seem some finishing today and some tomorrow. Are these different boards?

gleegeek · 17/06/2019 14:25

Herman done! It was ok apparently Smile
She's now baking her dad a late father's day cake! Hooray no more revision!!!

Foslady · 17/06/2019 14:59

Yep - Herman is being dumped (poor chap but he didn’t seem very trusting, always asking questions!!!😂😂).
Dd’s Maths is FSMQ? Roll on this time tomorrow.......and hopefully the damn dress will be here!!!!

steppemum · 17/06/2019 15:37

It's funny that some schools have them in every day until the last exam.

ds had all the end of term /leaving stuff before the first exam, as that is when they went on study leave. Had a party, assembly etc.

Had an excellent morning. Took a reluctant ds to Next, bought a lovely suit (£85, not bad at all) plus shirt, tie and shoes.
left home at 11:15, home by 1:30!
can't believe it! Mind you, some items are being ordered in in the right size, so just praying it all arrives.

I can't tell you how relived I am, 6'3" with very long body and arms, and size 13 feet, I thought we would get stuck at some point. In fact once we had the suit and I mentioned shoes, ds said - yes we have been avoiding the shoe issue haven't we.... then I discovered Next go up to a 13! ds even said - I don't care if they aren't really comfortable, they are for special occasions.
So now he has a suit and decent shoes that he can use for weddings/interviews etc for the next few years, and all for a reasonable price.

But the best bit was ds trying it all on (he is a strictly jeans and T shirt man) and realising he looked GOOD and standing up straighter, and trying different styles and really getting into it. Dh was at home and he said - ds was still glowing when he got home, obviously a happy lad!

steppemum · 17/06/2019 15:38

Binkom, ds was going to do advanced maths, but pulled out, his would have been tomorrow. The rest of his maths is Edexcel, not sure if the advanced is too.

pikapikachu · 17/06/2019 16:14

Dd had German this morning. (Edexcel)

It went well but she realised afterwards that she'd forgotten to tick which questions she chose. The exam papers had been "wrapped" by the time that she'd found the examinations officer for help. Does anyone know if it's an automatic zero (her fear) or when the scan can't find a tick, will someone manually add the tick?

LosingHerMissMarbles · 17/06/2019 16:51

Hurrah! German went well and DS really hoping that will pull his grade up to something reasonable.
Statistics and Advanced maths tomorrow for DS's cohort so they do all at least finish together. (Further maths today but DS's school didn't do that as well this year, thankfully!)
We counted up he's taken 28 written exams in total so it really feels like a marathon.
So sorry I didn't find you before. I have an older DS so have been through it once but different specs and very different children.
Looking forward to some downtime after tomorrow.....for me, let alone DS!

Iambuffy · 17/06/2019 16:58

Ds1 has just had to have the last of his baby teeth removed so he's feeling a bit sorry for himself.

OP posts:
AGirlHasNoCake · 17/06/2019 17:11

we are done! Huzzah!

DS said further math was better than last weeks and he now thinks he is in with a good chance of an A or B.

German he felt went well - the writing bit he managed to modify his speaking exam (discrimination I believe) and cram it into the written (sports).

I'm just thankful that's all over for now. See you back here on 22nd august ladies!
