pikapikachu · 05/06/2019 16:49

Just read what you meant about the AQA extract. 😱

TabbyStar · 05/06/2019 17:09

I have to say I was a bit uncertain when DD described the extract for me about it's effect on kids, particularly girls, with an abusive parent, who are quite likely to already be disadvantaged by their experience, but then I'm quite highly tuned to these things from personal and professional experience. I haven't seen anything on Twitter though.

OKBobble · 05/06/2019 17:10

42% of women are size 16 or above so not unusual. In fact it is more unusual for someone who was a size 10 when young to be able to remain at that weight.

If you are shutting yourself away to change and not wanting sex with him he may be assuming that you are embarrassed about your size and that is why you don't want sex rather than him not fancying you still.
.

I have to say my weight fluctuates a lot and I have top end and lower end but DH says he loves and fancies me whatever size. However I do get down when I am bigger and it puts me off wanting to be intimate. It is possible that he has tried to express this in a clumsy way.

SilentSister · 05/06/2019 17:17

OKBobble - Interesting, but wrong thread !!

pikapikachu · 05/06/2019 17:32

If you read the whole story then the main character ends up being raped. The extract wasn't the rape but it's still not a suitable extract for an exam imo.

readyforsunshine · 05/06/2019 17:34

Maud that made me laugh! & you bobble!?!
Well done to all those with exams today, especially those with the heave scheduled. I think a treat night is a great idea, how lucky all these children are to have our support, my friend is a TA & it breaks her heart how little home support some of her pupils going through GCSEs are getting Sad

Iambuffy · 05/06/2019 17:46

Thats so sad ready :(

Luciaia · 05/06/2019 17:49

Dd somehow trying to go over the whole content for both migration and restoration which I’m trying to tell her is unfeasible but she basically gnashed her teeth at me so will leave her to her inevitable crisis it. Maths being completely neglected for history- odd as maths is an a level choice while history isn’t, hopefully that means confidence in maths (?)

myrtleWilson · 05/06/2019 17:54

Okbobble has given us a new take!

Have wrenched a teensy bit more information from Dd on classics (roman city life) - apparently the first section was all "housing, housing, housing" she was aghast at the lack of mention of the Circus, gladiators, pan e circe etc! From the literature element we've ascertained a section on Horace & kindness/satire and a question regarding women's position in city life....

pointythings · 05/06/2019 18:27

DD2 says Geography was unmemorable. No idea whether tha's good or bad. She's in a lot of pain today.

And we got our appointment for rheumatology through, but it's the exact date and time her last geography exam ends, so I've had to call in and ask for a different date. Sigh.

steppemum · 05/06/2019 19:15

ds did AQA geog.
Not very happy, as 'all the things I didn't revise' came up.
well, there's a pretty long list to choose form Hmm
He was going to do it for A level until a couple of months ago, so I thought he'd do well.

Maths tomorrow, which is good for us.

Sorry for all of you with anxious teens, it is so tough to have to do this on top of anxiety x x

Powergower · 05/06/2019 19:25

Yes really feel for all teens ergo have any form of anxiety or neutral health issues. A gcse student washroom a school in our district was found dead in the woods and it really upset me. The expectations are so high and the stress levels must be unmanageable for so many young people. That's why i thought the aqa extract was a little inappropriate.

I volunteer with troubled teens and 90% of them have issues which stem from some form of abuse in childhood at the hands of a family member.

Just hoping all of us and our kids can get through the next few weeks relatively unscathed, and remember that in the grand scheme of life these results are not the be all and end all.

Powergower · 05/06/2019 19:26

Oh god sorry for the awful typos. My hand was shaking typing that out....

Iambuffy · 05/06/2019 19:32

power 💐

MaddieElla · 05/06/2019 19:40

DD told me about the extract, and that the girl goes on to be raped in the book as she had been left. I mean really?

DD in year 7 also had an odd exam. She was asked to write a persuasive letter to persuade a beauty pageant to let a 7 year old take part or something. Confused This is an all girls school and I found that utterly bizarre.

OddBoots · 05/06/2019 20:00

I'm not sure if I have made the right decision with dd. Yesterday she had the last minute offer of a drama workshop in the evening with a local theatre company and a street theatre group, she went along to that as she had no exams today. While there she was invited onto a writing team for a new local project but that is this evening, its a good opportunity for her but it's taken up all her evening (and yesterday evening) and she has two exams tomorrow. She's still not sure where she wants to go with her career options so she doesn't know what to prioritise yet.

I guess it remains to be seen if it was the right thing to let her go or not.

KittyMcKitty · 05/06/2019 20:05

OddBoots I think it was totally the right decision- GCSEs represent how they did in one test on one day. Experiences like this will be great for her and make her a much rounder (more employable ) person. And what a fantastic boost to her confidence to be asked to do it.

*disclaimer I may ignore my GCSEs aren’t everything approach if ds doesn’t get the average point score needed to stay at school Smile

cantkeepawayforever · 05/06/2019 20:07

If it is of any reassurance, DD is keeping up her 8 or so hours of dance per week, despite being in the middle of GCSEs, and DS has gone off to a music group rehearsal tonight between 2 A-levels... whether these are right decisions, i don't know, but hety...

Arewedone · 05/06/2019 20:10

Thx for responses re books, our local charity shop will not take any sort of educational text book. Will check we buy books - thanks for the tip😅
Edexcel igcse maths paper 2 for us tomorrow then Edexcel igcse Biology paper 2 on Friday. Finally the end is in sight. Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

raspberryrippleicecream · 05/06/2019 20:12

Ds2 had AQA Geography. Said it was ok but his least favourite exam so far. I never get much detail from him.

Re GCSE/IGCSE coursework. Five years ago DS1 did GCSE English Language and IGCSe English Language, the school were comparing the two. I remember the coursework counted for both, but he must have done two exams. I think it might have had something also to do with the oral element being removed from the GCSE that year. He got A for both, but school did iGCSE for the next couple fo years so must have preferred it.

Arewedone · 05/06/2019 20:17

Dd only taking igcses - no coursework for any subject

OddBoots · 05/06/2019 20:21

Thank you for the reassurance KittyMcKitty and cantkeepawayforever, we just do our best really.

We are giving our text books back to the school, I asked if they would be of use to them and they they said they could pass them on to students next year that they know could make good use of them.

Arewedone · 05/06/2019 20:42

Guess I didn’t think of the obvs- thx oddboots will ask school!
Dd wanted to Bbq them😳

KittyMcKitty · 05/06/2019 20:45

Student support at dc school have asked for any revision guides etc to pass onto students who haven’t got them.
