Perpetual Tango what a fabulous phrase! I’m going to try and use that in day to day conversation!!

Well done to all who sat Spanish this morning fingers crossed for all our geographers and anyone else sitting at the moment.

Iambuffy · 05/06/2019 13:49

I swear I'm more nervous about ds1s exams than I was about my own!

(gnashes teeth)

gleegeek · 05/06/2019 14:59

Thank you so much for your support. The first two weeks went better than expected - i hoped dd would continue in the same vein. She does suffer from anxiety but has been adamant she doesn't want to see anyone about it. I suspect we are at the point of it being non-negotiable!
Binkom your ds sounds fab. Better to be able to be creative in the future than rule bound - I suspect he'll go far!
History tomorrow - middle east and anglo saxons. Dd loves the ancient stuff but has found the middle east stuff tedious and confusing. Too many dates and boring detail, not enough interesting characters and gritty stuff for her!

gleegeek · 05/06/2019 15:00

Too many 'stuffs' in thereBlush

TabbyStar · 05/06/2019 15:11

We've got Elizabeth and Britain, power and the people. Just waiting for DD to return from geography.

WeirdOne · 05/06/2019 15:24

Maybe 'perpetual tango' will take off.
DS is so pleased you like it.
I told him mumsnet loves him..... the ultimate achievement!

Bimkom · 05/06/2019 15:29

Text from DS to say "yawn, that was the honesty the most Boring paper ever".
This is OCR B Geography, so I imagine no-one on here will have done it (and in fact DS's school is switching the lower years as they have not been impressed with the board). I have texted him back to ask him if despite bein boring he has given them what he thinks they wanted, but I haven't had a reply.

Bimkom · 05/06/2019 15:30

^Honestly

Bimkom · 05/06/2019 15:31

Maybe I should find out whether it involved a perpetual tango of geography facts. Its a great expression!

fairweathercyclist · 05/06/2019 15:36

DS had Spanish and Geography today - both good subjects for him. He has said that he is categorically not doing A level geography but did say if he gets a 9 for it, he might feel he has to! It's not beyond the bounds of possibility, it is very well taught at his school and it has clicked for him in the last few months.

The weakness for him is the fieldwork exam next week. Is anyone doing the Eduqas course? Just wondering if anyone has any hot tips. It was a weakish paper for him in the mocks.

KittyMcKitty · 05/06/2019 15:40

Just collected ds from Geography (Edexcel Spec A) and his comment was that he thought it went well but that some questions were weird. Anyway one more done Smile

fairweathercyclist · 05/06/2019 15:40

DS has history and maths tomorrow and science (biology?) and English lang on Friday. A heavy two days but it calms down a bit next week.

Arewedone · 05/06/2019 15:44

Hi, I’ve been following the last few weeks and this thread has kept me/us goingSmile thank you everyone!!
We are almost done, only 4 left and in anticipation I’ve already begun piling the huge amount of revision books (lots unused) & text guides etc. Does anyone have any experience of where to offload them?

Iambuffy · 05/06/2019 15:49

Edexcel geography b here.

Ds said it was hard. Ambiguous questions and niche topics.

It's one of his best subjects so if he found it hard I imagine it was.

WeirdOne · 05/06/2019 15:54

I've also been lurking for a few weeks.
This series of threads is so useful and supportive - thank you all!

Bimkom · 05/06/2019 15:58

DS's responise "probably" - so I think that is about the most I will get out of it. Geography is not an A level choice, and he has been very frustrated with the board and, until this year, the teaching of the subject at his school (definitely not one of the school's strong subjects). He got a new teacher this year whom he rates, and there seems to have been a complete turnover of staff, so it may be on the up. I hope so. Geography might well be an A level choice for DD, so I hope they are getting their house in order at the school.

EducatingArti · 05/06/2019 15:59

We buy books will often take revision guides if in good condition and not written in. You may have enough to meet their minimum payment.
Otherwise charity shops will take them and are a good way of helping other DC whose parents may be on a low budget

Leeds2 · 05/06/2019 16:05

*Arewedone", most of the charity shops near here have big boxes of revision guides for people to sort through as they wish.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 05/06/2019 16:09

Well I can probably make a mint selling ds's pristine, untouched revision guides then!

Geog this afternoon, think it was Edexcel? No word from ds yet though.

The end is in sight! He's now switched his attention to trying to get a job this summer. He said yesterday 'an hour or so on Indeed won't hurt' to which my answer was 'an hour or so on the bloody exam you've got tomorrow would be better!' GrinGrin

Powergower · 05/06/2019 16:11

Ds did the aqa abandonment question too. Said he'd written about a flower bed being fill of adoration in summer and then thoroughly abandoned in winter. And coupled that with a story about someone feeling abandoned. Sounded altogether bizarre to me, but obviously I didn't tel him that!!

Poor sleep happening here too and a real lack of motivation!

Iambuffy · 05/06/2019 16:11

I'll give ds1s revision books to my nephew who will be in year 11 next year.

Powergower · 05/06/2019 16:18

Did anyone read the Twitter threads about the aqa extract and how inappropriate it was to use in the exam?

Ds has 4 over the next 2 days and unfortunately has lost his mojo. Fingers crossed he picks himself up again.

myrtleWilson · 05/06/2019 16:29

We've booked dinner out on Saturday night as a little pick me up after this hard week. Contemplated Friday night but then remembered the sofa nap last Friday and that was a much lighter week Grin

Iambuffy · 05/06/2019 16:30

Its ds1s 16th birthday next week :)

He has no headspace for it atm which is a shame :(

DeRigueurMortis · 05/06/2019 16:37

GrinGrinGrinat perpetual tango - love it!!!

Sorry to hear about those of you with children finding it hard to sleep.

Power I didn't see the twitter threads - why was it seen to be inappropriate?

It's all highs and lows here.

A high today as electronics AQA went really, really well apparently (all the questions he wanted came up) and it's maths tomorrow (yay!! at least in this household) and then we'll be back to earth with a crash in anticipation of his (thankfully last) English paper.

Tbh after this week it should get better - he'll definitely have broken the back of it. He'll still have 5 more exams to go after Friday but thankfully they're all in "good" subjects he enjoys.

Hope everyone else is starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks for everyone
