Is there a thread yet for parents with kids doing entrance exams in Jan? It's been so helpful looking through previous years threads and now we're going through it I'd love a hand-hold and any advice on what to expect!

Sorry that should have read ‘each grade equates to a certain number of points’

Waterloo · 13/01/2019 11:17

Thanks - makes sense. Thought it was a bit too easy!

Pickofthepops · 13/01/2019 11:20

Do W & T deal with applicants for both foundation schools ahead of applicants for just one or other? Thought this may be case so they can get own house in order quicker and establish remaining spaces once they know who might take up a T place and who prefers W?

SoupDragon · 13/01/2019 11:33

You also need to have acceptable behaviour to get a 6th form place at T. I do know of boys who have not been offered a place (and have been told this before GCSE).

I can't remember what the academic hurdle is to get a 6th form place at T.

I think that would over complicate an already complicated process. As all offers are made on the same day, I don't think it would make sense anyway. They just want the "right" boys.

SoupDragon · 13/01/2019 11:36

I don't think it matters as they know they will have more than enough boys to fill their spaces.

walkingtheplank · 13/01/2019 11:58

1200 !!! Shock
Think I'll stop waiting by the phone then...

Pickofthepops · 13/01/2019 12:01

Yep good point - will stop analysing

calpop · 13/01/2019 12:28

For the scholarship auditions next week, non sport, do they just wear school uniform?

Seeline · 13/01/2019 14:53

Current requirement for 6th form entry at T is a minimum of 6 grade 7s or above. There are also minimum requirements for individual A levels. And yes, boys will only be accepted if they meet behaviour standards, including attitude to work etc.
Soup I share your secret hope, but again doubt it will happen 🙂

SpaceOpera · 13/01/2019 19:35

calpop DS is going in tomorrow to T for his interview followed by music audition in school uniform (since school day I thought it would look weird to send him in casual clothes)

Motheroftw0 · 13/01/2019 21:44

Has anyone heard about drama scholarship yet? The audition is on coming Thursday, I have no notification yet.

calpop · 13/01/2019 23:18

Thanks SO, just seems.strange for sports or drama to go in in school uniform, but makes sense with school before/after I guess.

accidentalbride · 14/01/2019 10:15

Has anyone heard from Whitgift today? We are still waiting...

enterparentone · 14/01/2019 10:41

Or any 10+ T applicants heard about interview dates since the group email on Thursday?

OP posts:
Pickofthepops · 14/01/2019 11:16

still waiting on whitgift 11+ here too

Nonie0509 · 14/01/2019 11:57

Heard on Friday night re: 10+ interview timing for T. Haven't heard anything re: Whitgift 10+ yet..

Motheroftw0 · 14/01/2019 12:17

The school will be sending an email out later today on drama scholarship.

nutnutmother · 14/01/2019 13:49

just got whitgift 10+ interview date for this saturday - does this mean the boy passed exam?

Nonie0509 · 14/01/2019 14:50

nunutmother - I just got an email inviting my son for interview at Whitgift for 10+ on Sat too... assume that does mean they passed the test.

gambaspilpil · 14/01/2019 15:52

You wouldn’t get an invite to and interview if your DS hadn’t achieved the necessary mark! Congratulations and good luck!

Pickofthepops · 14/01/2019 16:08

Any thoughts? My son's school omitted to do his reference for W before Xmas. HT on long term sick. They chased today, W said not to worry, some o/s, pls get it in ASAP. Do you think that is a good sign, if frustrating!? Would they chase if he scored below par?

Bondiboo74 · 14/01/2019 18:01

Pickofthepops, I am not an expert by any means but I would certainly take that as a positive sign. I wouldn’t have thought they would both chasing if he hadn’t done well in the exam. Fingers crossed!

Bondiboo74 · 14/01/2019 18:03

Has anyone had their Whitgift interview yet? I just wondered what the format of the interview was and how formal? We were telephoned and haven’t had any info by letter or email so I’m a bit clueless on it

Bondiboo74, I think it depends on who is conducting the interview, and if your DS is a potential academic scholar.
Our DS did not score high enough overall to be considered for an academic scholarship.
He was called in for the interview first whilst we were in a waiting area. He was asked about the things on his application form. We were then called in after to discuss his exam performance, whilst he waited outside.
The thread from last year spoke about differences in who the interviewer was with regard to if an academic scholarship would be offered, but I cannot confirm that fact.
I can't say this for a fact but I think they like to offer places to well rounded boys. There will obviously be boys who excel at sport or music or be academically brilliant, but they do also want boys who have varied interest.
