The pupil number would be on the emails / paperwork you had when he applied to secondary school, if you can find that.

whistl · 03/09/2018 08:50

Loose UPN is something you get from the previous school. The school secretary gave me DS1.

whistl · 03/09/2018 08:52

The school receptionist gave me DS1's UPN.

(In my head I think the whole sentence, but when I read back what i actually typed, I find that I have missed out half the sentence sometimes!)

TheThirdOfHerName · 03/09/2018 08:52

It also might be called ULN (unique learner number). As Stickerrocks says, it should be on the results slip.

Oratory1 · 03/09/2018 08:56

Hope has a good day whistl

whistl · 03/09/2018 08:56

They are different:
ULN (unique learner number, which is likely to be shown on your results slip)

UPN (unique pupil number – you may need to obtain this directly from your school)

UCI (unique candidate identifier, which is likely to be shown on your results slip)

whistl · 03/09/2018 09:01

Thanks, Oratory.

He was a little nervous at breakfast, but not too bad. I think the worst part will be about now, when he has reached the school building and is waiting for it to start.

He doesn't know anyone else, but the vast majority will be in the same position, so it is not as bad as it would be if he were joining a sixth form where most of the students had come up through the junior and senior school together (for example).

LooseAtTheSeams · 03/09/2018 09:03

Yes, I mistakenly thought one was the other - that’s why I have to phone the school! I optimistically thought it might be on a data sheet but no! I do have the UCI.

TheThirdOfHerName · 03/09/2018 09:07

Well that sounds unnecessarily confusing! 😂

LooseAtTheSeams · 03/09/2018 09:08

Whistl now I’ve pressed too soon - meant to wish your DS all the best today. i’m Sure he’ll be fine!

Oratory1 · 03/09/2018 09:10

And that’s why I’m trying to get ds to pack everything up today - so I gave tomorrow to fill the gaps. Not sure he ll see it that way tho.

sandybayley · 03/09/2018 09:13

@whistl - thanks for the suggestions. I'm f forgotten about Wilko. We love Wilko in our house.

whistl · 03/09/2018 09:14

Thanks, LooseAtTheSeams. I have an odd sense of "job done". It feels like DS1 is on a good path now, one that will suit him and let him play to his strengths.

I also feel like I'm handing the reins over to the school, and trusting them to guide him from here on in using expertise that I don't have. (I never felt like this previously).

Cherryburn · 03/09/2018 09:14

whistl I hope he has a great day today.

eaglefly · 03/09/2018 09:27

Best of luck to all DC that are especially straying new schools/colleges. Even for those that are staying on it definitely feels like a new milestone. Was bizarre to see DD go to school in her own clothes and I missed not buying a pair of new School shoes for the new year - first time in 12 years. Still had to get for DS though.

After indication day last week this will be a full school week. Hopefully things will settle in terms of routines/timetables/extra curriculars. I know DD will feel more relaxed once a routine is established.

I think she is ready to start working now so hopefully the teachers are good and she doesn't have too many regrets about any f the subjects.

eaglefly · 03/09/2018 09:31

We have been clearing the pit of doom too - including emptying the bags of shopping. Still loads to do but a desk surfaced yesterday. It is DDs jewellery and makeup/toiletries that seems to be spread across three different areas of the room - which results in total mess and not finding what she wants. And this is for a girl that doesn't even wear make up or jewellery. We too have a stack of checked shirts.

Still need to sort the GCSE stuff - we conveniently put all the notes and folders in the spare room. Need to see what we will keep for DS and get rid of the rest. Will keep the revision guides for DS.

Oratory1 · 03/09/2018 09:49

I know what you mean whistl but you must be relieved and more confident that at new school he will get decent advice/direction and his strengths will be encouraged to flourish.

Stickerrocks · 03/09/2018 09:52

Good luck all. I'm having a day off to deal with elderly IL med issues. It makes a change from teenage angst!

Oratory1 yes, I'm hugely relieved that he's on a good path at last, and proud of him for how he's turning out (as a person), and feeling like his childhood has ended. So, its good but I'm going to miss him.

eaglefly · 03/09/2018 10:43

By the way did mmmz completely drop off the thread? Miss her updates.

Stickerrocks · 03/09/2018 10:58

I think she must be trapped in a pivot table within a spreadsheet somewhere! I'm sure she'll pop back one day when her 2 DSs have settled back at school. Nice to see new regulars too.

I'm still here! There just hasn't been much to say recently, so i have not been posting so much.
It has all calmed down since DS made a final decision to stay on at his old school rather than move to the 6th form that i wanted him to go to.
He starts back tomorrow, so is currently trying to find his calculator which he hasn't touched since 15th June!

i sent you a PM slinky.

Oratory1 · 03/09/2018 11:48

If its any consolation DS reverts frequently to the child/boy even if its only in his humour !

LooseAtTheSeams · 03/09/2018 13:09

Whistl it's a good sign, I think, that you feel you can hand over to the school. A friend of mine has 2 sons at uni and said it was a relief when they went as from that point it was up to them. She had to do a lot of checking up on them even at A level!
Numbers found, form completed, DS all set to enrol this afternoon! DS2 goes back to school tomorrow, thank goodness.

whistl · 03/09/2018 14:31

Don't get me wrong, LooseAtTheSeams, I'll still be watching!

I tried to hand over once before - when DS1 started at a new school when he was 7/ year 3. It lasted under a week - I lost all trust in the teacher when she caught me at home time to tell me that DS couldn't read at all. (He could btw. I think she was confusing shyness with being able to read - an easy mistake to make (not!)).
