I've read the small print Oneteen and she is allowed. Obviously the QM2 allows dogs to sail transatlantic in their kennels, but Flo would be allowed in our cabin. The two key issues are:

  1. other passengers would interfere with her the whole trip so she would struggle to concentrate on work
  2. she may need vet checks & tapeworm treatments before getting back on board, which obviously eats into our time in port.

P&O politely remind us that they do not have a vet on board and doctors are unable to treat her if she gets I'll, so we should take advice from a vet before travelling about motion sickness!

TerfTerf2 · 20/08/2018 21:39

stick my family has always made me feel really naughty if I drink alcohol from a coffee mug! So glad to find I'm not the only one Grin
panda hope the date goes well! sigh oh to be 16 again...

I thought I was really confused about the grade boundary/mark bands thing but I have this evening explained it to an even more clueless friend so obviously something that you've been talking about has sunk in Grin Let's hope the same can be said for DS's biology gcse!

Oratory1 · 20/08/2018 21:44

Great distraction Panda !!

TerfTerf2 · 20/08/2018 21:46

stick the last time we went on the QE2 there was a lovely young woman on board with her assistance whippet (he detected her diabetic symptoms). He wore his working jacket all the time and all the passengers were extremely respectful of his status. I was so in awe of her confidence to travel alone, a long way from home, with a potentially fatal medical condition. She said Devo (Whip It!) was better than any parent or partner because he only cared about her and her health and wasn't easily distracted, especially as there were no squirrels on board Grin

JufusMum · 20/08/2018 21:50

Wow that combined science 3-3 is a curveball! DD did that paper so yay more anxiety for me. DD is still away dog sitting but I picked her up from dance today and asked her if she was nervous about results day. She said no but only for English. She's more chilled than me.

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 21:56

stickerrocks You can get a doggy passport which I would assume exempt said doggy from port checks?

All my words are swapping places more than usual - need to turn on grammar checks (or go to bed)

DD also has coursework in English x 2 and DT. I'm just working on the basis that Dd's English Teacher stated that she thought the exam marker exemplar wasn't great - giving marks away and she would (has) adopted a much stricter approach....but who knows! DD's English mocks were 7 x 2 I am expecting one to be a 6 because of brain fog during the exam (oddly enough it was the Lit paper which is usually the stronger paper) but again I dont know and as long as she gets to the next stage she has in mind I am happy.

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 22:03

I think we will err on the side of caution in case Flo gets on & hates it. I've previously acted as "guide human" for her owner on a Waitrose cookery school course and it was hysterical perfecting her knife skills. We got a free "guide human" ticket to accompany her to Motorhead, which seemed a bit of a con as he could definitely hear the whole thing. We have a bucket list of things we want to do & we're gradually working our way through them.

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 22:05

P&O allow register assistance dogs, but not emotional support animals, so Devo & Flo qualify. Who here had an emotional support bunny on earlier threads? They are not allowed.

TerfTerf2 · 20/08/2018 22:15

Ah I'd love an emotional support bunny. Or a panda. But that might be awkward on a plane Grin
Did your friend see this, stick?

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 22:17

Bucket lists are great...and it is lovely that you are helping your cousin to tick the boxes too! I think Kingscote DS has the wonderful bunny!

Every time I type DS it turn to DD !

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 22:18

Love it.

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 22:24

We did Sweeney Todd the Opera together and someone registered her guide stick & stood in front of her, I kid you not! I am feeling slightly guilty because I'm going to see Ruby Wax's How to be Human next month and automatically asked for a seats with space for a dog. They only charged me for one ticket, so I'm forcing DCo to come with me whether she wants to or not! She has also been accused of "not looking blind enough to have a guide dog."

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 20/08/2018 22:28

Hi all.

I keep trying to read the thread before checking in but at this rate you'll have filled it before I can catch up. Hope everyone is well.

Stress is ramping up here. It seems to be causing more grumpiness and occasional tears but also more baking. CakeBiscuitGrin

I am so happy to have produced a child whose primary coping mechanism is kneading bread!

In the past week she has produced:

An 8 strand plaited loaf
A lemon drizzle cake
2 chocolate sponges
A chicken and sweetcorn pie
Chocolate cupcakes

My other regular thread on mumsnet is a weight loss thread. I've been very quiet on there this week Blush

eaglefly · 20/08/2018 22:50

Kick Bishop i am very jealous of all the baked goods. Yum

Away from home and out for dinner, DS asks why aren't we staying longer and I say because DD gets her results on Thursday. At which point DD pipes up - Mum I have my results in 3 days. It finally registered. We have not been talking about it. So
I said we have to plan something to celebrate. She was like no no - we don't need to think or talk about it. Nothing to celebrate - let's move on. So I think she wants to keep it low key. We will do that and just go with the flow. And then maybe remind her the day before. I doubt she will want to wake up to look up the results at 6 but we need to check what time we need to be at school - 9 or 11am.

eaglefly · 20/08/2018 22:53

I ofcourse will be up to check the grade boundaries.

I had created a spreadsheet for DD early last year where I could track the subjects she was doing, the boards, the grade type (numbers or letters) and have updated it as I have got further info through the year I added her mock results, her predicted grades, the format of the exam ie coursework/number of exams, exam dates, and a prediction of grade boundary using previous years/school or guesstimating the 9 to 1 ones.its bizarre to think that I am now updating it with actual results. Found it useful to remember all the facts.

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 23:08

eaglefly are you sure you're not a mzzz clone!

eaglefly · 20/08/2018 23:12

Mzzz is on another level. I am in awe of her skills. Her revision spreadsheet was like a work of art. I couldn't do that. Mine is basically lots of columns because I am rubbish at remembering info and tend to lose important pieces of
Paper at the important times. It's been so complicated to remember all the stuff.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 20/08/2018 23:14

I do keep wondering who you were before, eaglefly. Just had an 'Aw, bless!' moment over your spreadsheet! Grin

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 23:14

Lashings of Clinique moisture surge being applied here as I feel myself visibly aging this week.

Kick My DM's little gem this weekend was asking me if I was putting on weight. I've lost over 2 stone over the past few months through a lot of hard work. Thank goodness your DD's baking habit isn't contagious (although DD made a red velvet cake last weekend).

eaglefly · 20/08/2018 23:15

Personally it's there to pass the time and control what we can control as can't really control anything to do with actual revision or exam taking.

Oh I wish I could see the grade boundaries right now.

I am so an overinvested parent- what am I going to do when they leave Home.

hmcAsWas · 20/08/2018 23:16

Sticker I'm another one who panicked at the combined science higher 'safety net adjustment' even though dd did the three sciences separately Grin

Also very envious of the baked goods KickBishop - wow! Although admittedly, not helpful if you are trying to shift some weight

Thanks for the clarification re moderation of course work Bluebelle - doesn't sound unreasonable.

Dd is mostly avoiding pre results stress by sleeping - she usually doesn't surface until 2/3 pm.

eaglefly · 20/08/2018 23:19

Ellen yes I am a name changer - have been on the board for some time but posting intermittently. Wink

mmmz · 20/08/2018 23:33

Checking in. I haven't had a chance to go Mumsnet since this morning.

223 posts in one day! I'm going to catch up now.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 20/08/2018 23:37

eaglefly too cryptic for me!

mmmz · 21/08/2018 07:00

DS was unnecessarily rude a couple of times yesterday. Its not like him, so i guess he's probably starting to feel the stress of thursday bearing down.

Just 51 hours to go...
