Been lurking for ages, can I join in too? Nervously awaiting DS's results, sixth form place requires 2 7's and an 8 for his A level options, plus at least 2 more level 6 or above. Moved schools going into year 10, fingers crossed it was for the best - he is certainly happier just hope his grades mean he can stay on.

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 19:45

Hello all delurkers. We love anybody new, although at the mo we're confused about who is who as there was a frenzy of name-changing last week. You could have simply pretended to be one of us. It would be fairly simple to do an identity fraud given the amount of info we've posted over the last twelve months. Most people around here now think that I'm a raging alcoholic who takes a coffee cup full of gin into my (grown up) classroom whilst flying the flag of Mebyon Kernow from up country.

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 19:47

Sost Very excited to spot the odd post from you old chum. How's pup & her phantom pregnancies?

goodbyestranger · 20/08/2018 19:48

veiledsentiments I'm completely with you on the fretting front. I can feel myself using GCSE results day stuff to distract me from other stuff which is actually far more important. Perhaps I should get into massive spread sheet grade boundary projections to do the job properly.

goodbyestranger · 20/08/2018 19:53

All credit to you from me at least for the dual function coffee cup Stickerrocks. Genius.

AlexanderHamilton · 20/08/2018 20:03

It’s all getting very close now.

Today’s news is that I’m about to rescue another mumsnetters Dd who has missed her last train home.

(We have met before in real life a few times & said Dd is 19).

So I’ve left Dd changing bedding.

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 20:10

Well that should prove a distraction Alex. How is DH?

Holidayshopping · 20/08/2018 20:14

DS needs to get 52 points in his top 8 subjects (nothing below a 6 counts) to stay at the sixth form -feeling a bit nervous!

Oratory1 · 20/08/2018 20:14

Well, into third week at work and he s not given all the profits away yet 😂. He s loving it !

KingscoteStaff · 20/08/2018 20:14

cherryburn it was the 9-1.

Am currently enjoying a coffee mug mojito! (Spelling?)

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 20:17

Sunshine I got as far as the bit about the higher tier of combined science having to invent a 3/3 grade as there were too many unclassified and felt my heart rate rising. I have no idea why, as DD took triple not combined! We're all going to be clutching each pronouncement, analysing it endlessly and speculating about its meaning. At this rate I will be reading an article on the woman who fell off the cruise ship and wondering what the implications will be for grade boundaries in oceanography on Thursday!

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 20:23

we're confused about who is who as there was a frenzy of name-changing last week

I was totally confused and definitely thought someone had changed their names but then there are two separate posts today with the two separate names - definitely need a good nights sleep because I am obviously not with it!

DD very pleased because she had email from French teacher stating she will not be around on results day (a result within itself- sorry I am not normally derogatory of teachers)

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 20/08/2018 20:27

Can I join? Ds1 gets IGCSE results on Thursday. He was in high school in Scotland until the end of third year, hated the nat5 curriculum, and chose home ed for his exam year (obviously there’s a longer story, but that’s the short version!) He already has an unconditional offer for college (starts tomorrow), but would love to see all the hard work we put in last year pay off for him.

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 20:31

reading an article on the woman who fell off the cruise ship Hmmm really odd - I managed to grab another bargain for Feb HT(thank you DD's school for choosing to have HT at different date to nearly all other schools in England). Grin

BlueBelle123 · 20/08/2018 20:40

I've just read up on moderation as DS did PE and DD previoulsy had work moderated down at the same school...........Anyway it appears what happens is the schools marks and the moderated marks are plotted and a line of best fit is applied, provided the schools marks are within an acceptable tolerance then nothing is done if not marks will be adjusted both up and down to fit the line..........so its not a case of everyone going up or everyone going down!

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 20:47

Oneteen looking longing at the flyer I've received about Iona, which will have had time to settle any teething difficulties in time for post A level exams. I'm also planning a jaunt my cousin but wondering whether to risk taking her guide dog.

ColdTatty that cross-over between starting college tomorrow and results day on Thursday would be strange. I struggled to remember that my niece was starting high school tomorrow as it seems far too early.

veiledsentiments · 20/08/2018 20:48

Currently trying to fend off stupid arguments from OH. Who is huffy that youngest has now been out for 3 nights. Was out for dinner earlier, and having to defend eldest if she wants to bring someone home for holidays. Considering we were married when I was 24, and having to had to fight with my parents 3 weeks this summer about their suddenly weird beliefs I am now losing the will. I can't wait until Thursday. And then for eldest and OH to go. List in hand.

Stickerrocks · 20/08/2018 20:55

Tonight's coffee cup special features hints of rosemary, coriander seed and ginger with Fentimans Valencian orange tonic. Not sure why It's a coffee cup special as I'm no longer pretending to be a stroppy hormonal teenager and am back to being a stroppy hormonal mum of a stroppy hormonal teenager at home again. Still, It's nice to have started a trend which I feel will outlast this thread.

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 20:57

I didnt get the impression changes are taken lightly although if a school has mis marked before then I think it tends to be in the spotlight :

The moderator re-marks the work and compares this with the marks you have provided to check whether any changes are needed to bring the marking in line with our agreed standards. In some cases the moderator will ask you to send in more work. Any changes to marks will normally keep your rank order but, where major inconsistencies are found, we reserve the right to change the rank order.

noblegiraffe · 20/08/2018 21:02

Talking about moderation, it’s worth knowing that a school can appeal the moderation for a class of students and doesn’t need individual student consent for this. As a result of a review of moderation individual student marks can be lowered, but student grades cannot be lowered even if they drop below a grade boundary as a result of the review.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 20/08/2018 21:04

@stickers I’m just grateful that the college aren’t quibbling it. They do their own maths and English assessments as well, so I think he did well on those which takes the pressure off.

Oneteen · 20/08/2018 21:11

stickerocks Iona (ship) looks lovely (had a retake and thought you were going to Scotland)...I dont think I have seen a guide dog on board before?

sunshineandsand1 · 20/08/2018 21:16

Stickerrocks That is so funny. I am currently analysing everything I read - although not work. I cannot concentrate on that!

cubscout · 20/08/2018 21:23

It has just struck me that ds did 2 subjects with assessed coursework, music and Food Tech. I don't actually know what his marks were, school did not release them! Don't know whether to worry or not....they are the least 2 important subjects but ds wants to do well in music.

Don't know if it's worse having something specific to worry about, or generalised anxiety....or like you stickerrocks worry about anything and everything! Had to laugh, that resonated with me Grin

PandaG · 20/08/2018 21:24

Anxiety starting to ramp up here again too. DD seems ok, but we will see later in the week. I think a first date with a rather nice young man tomorrow is distracting her from the reality of Thursday at the moment!
