Thanks for all your good wishes. They mean a lot.

DM has been located and visited! She's in hospital and the doctors think it's just an infection that had spread. She's on some strong antibiotics but she must be feeling better because she's already asking if she can go home tomorrow. She has some other serious health issues going on and that added to the fear that something really bad was happening. I think she managed to scare us all today. It was the way it came out of nowhere.

Anyway, I am hoping that the panic is over.

hmcAsWas · 22/08/2018 00:35

That sounds like better news mmmz, glad to hear it

So it seems like insomnia is already kicking in...…….

Oneteen · 22/08/2018 00:42

Glad you have located your DM and hope her health improves ...elderly parents are always a worry.

Oh well I guess some HT will be looking at results at this very minute ....eek and I am finally off to bed having just finished off a report.

JufusMum · 22/08/2018 01:22

Glad you found DM Sost. Finally dropped off to sleep only to dream I was a Handmaid in The Handmaid's Tale! Woke up with a start and now wide awake!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 01:27

I hope she's home soon, mmmz. Flowers Just a word of warning; infections, especially UTIs, in elderly people can make them very confused, so don't worry too much if that happens to your DM, the correct anti-B soon sort it out.

JufusMum · 22/08/2018 02:43

Sorry I meant mmmz blame the gcse insomnia !!

Cherryburn · 22/08/2018 05:35

Glad to hear things are looking better with your mum mmmz. Hope she continues to improve and that you’re now home from MIL’s and can turn all your attention to stressing about results!

DS is definitely feeling the strain now. He told me he had a results dream the night before last; he went in to school but couldn’t find his results anywhere. Woke up in a panic, went back to sleep and the dream continued with him finding them...but they were all rubbish!

BlueBelle123 · 22/08/2018 06:57

Glad your DM is on the mend mmmz now you can get down to the serious business of locating those leaks!!! Grin

BlueBelle123 · 22/08/2018 06:58

Sost that was a lovely post you wrote last night Flowers

LooseAtTheSeams · 22/08/2018 06:59

mmmz that sounds so much more positive - Wishing her a speedy recovery! Thanks

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 22/08/2018 07:04

Mmmz that sounds positive. I hope she gets her wish and can go home soon Flowers

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 07:10

One more day to go!
What do I wish for tomorrow? I wish my dgd gets the rewards for all her hard work and efforts. I want her to be realistic too though. Will she get a bunch of 9s? No, maybe one, maybe none. Will she be a failure if she doesn't get what she hopes for? No she will not. No matter what grades are achieved the effort and work put in makes her a winner. That applies to all DC. Its that effort, that trying that makes a person a winner. Not everyone can win the race. That message can be hard to get across to our stressed DC who don't want to let us down.
As parents/grandparents/carers/family we too must be realistic and be ready to pick up the pieces if necessary and put our own expectations aside. We must realise that no matter what we love them, cherish them. Everyone wants their DC to be the best, but we musnt lose sight of the fact that comparisons to others is not the thing to do. Every child has a gift, it may take a while to find it but all are unique.
All on here are wonderful, realistic ,supportive of their DC and each other. Now that is a lesson we must teach our DC. Be pleased for others success, be supportive of others disappointments, be lovely human beings and always strive for that. That way you will always be a winner! So much more important in the scheme of things than GCSE results!

Stickerrocks · 22/08/2018 07:17

I think we should publish "The wise words of Sost and bung a copy in front of each family tomorrow.

I agree on the restorative powers of antibiotics in the elderly and the confusion caused by UTIs. DMIL is still in hospital, but DH made it over to see her yesterday. He said she was sounding more coherent than she has for ages because she was receiving all her meds (she won't take them at home) and being fed & watered regularly. Now we just need to do something about the bathroom door before we visit for the day at the weekend!

Thanks again, everyone.

So, that twitter account is promising leaks after 8am. I'm beginning to suspect that it's a hoax though, with the purpose of winding people up. If he does leak something, then it could be genuine or it could be fake. We will find out tomorrow when grade boundaries are published but simultaneously they will seem a whole lot less important compared to knowing the actual results.

DS was grumpy all day yesterday (except whenever my phone rang). It's exam nerves but he must be one of those people who just want to deal with it themselves, so DH and I have made a pact not to mention them in front off him until it's time to leave to collect the results.

PandaG · 22/08/2018 07:48

Glad it is good news mmmz.

DD enjoyed her date last night, and she is meeting up with friends later today to say goodbye to one of them who is moving away. We have some of our friends coming over for wine and board games tonight - 3/4 couples have GCSE results tomorrow, so it could be a good distraction, or we could indulge in a group worry!

eaglefly · 22/08/2018 07:50

Morning all. Sost wise words indeed - a good start to the day. Results definitely in the mind - going to bed with those and waking up with those.

I saw the 8am twitter thing too. He/she did get the a level results right.

eaglefly · 22/08/2018 07:51

Mmmz glad that DM has been found and is getting the help she needs.

LooseAtTheSeams · 22/08/2018 07:53

Sostenueto I agree with every word! All dc have something they are good at and interests them. I do hope everyone gets the results they need to move on to the next stage and follow the courses they want to do.

Sostenueto · 22/08/2018 08:16

sticker and mmzz Flowers for you mils. A speedy recovery prayed for for both. X

mmmz · 22/08/2018 08:16

I've been thinking abut what you wrote too, Sost. It's all true and moreover all our DC have been judged many, many times previously whether it was in a running race, or in the football field, or when their art work went on the classroom wall, or the danced in a competition or sang in front of everyone, or thousands or other ways and times.
So, why does this time get treated differently? For some, the results make a difference to what happens next, but there's not many who will be leading entirely different lives in 10 years time depending on what they get tomorrow. The only reason I can think of that such a big deal is made of tomorrow is that the GCSE results are the first and only time in their lives that everyone born Sept 2001 - August 2002 get judged at the same moment.
It feels important but only for that reason and that soon fades into oblivion. It isn't life changing for the vast majority and they'll still be the person they were always going to be come Friday, irrespective of what results they get tomorrow.

Oratory1 · 22/08/2018 08:20

Thanks sost - good reminder to think about my reaction tomorrow and be prepared for very every eventuality. And make sure we are sensitive to others around us.

Oratory1 · 22/08/2018 08:25

I may be imagining it and it may be due in part to the changes, or may be it’s been building up over the years but these gcse s seem much more in the news than previously. There seems to be a gcse story in the news every day. I’m sure it wasn’t like that with DD s just the glossy pictures on the day. All adding to their perceived significance. As one if you said once the biggest impact for some may be the confidence boost (or otherwise) they take into the next step.

Cherryburn · 22/08/2018 08:30

I think the fact that they’re all new exams has a lot to do with it Oratory, although previously there were always lots of stories about grade inflation before results day too.

LooseAtTheSeams · 22/08/2018 08:32

Oratory I think you're right as this is the first big test of the GCSE reforms. Last year was a bit of a rehearsal in comparison!
