Looking at the results on line and then off to school with her - assuming she gets the grades to stay she will register at the same time. Then the conversation about changing all of her A Level subjects ...
Failing that off to 6FC to register there
.....I have the week off so plenty of time for me to stress out (concentrating on work was pretty much off the cards this week!!)

Sostenueto · 21/08/2018 16:04

Eek! That dreaded word again English!Grin

Dickybow321 · 21/08/2018 16:21

Eek, this is so exciting! I don't know how I DS is going to get through the next 40 hours.

ReservoirDogs · 21/08/2018 16:51

Actually I was quite surprised that on GMB last week there was quite a range of pupils opening their results rather than the blonde flicky A*s only. Maybe they have taken on board the need to be a bit more representative.

Oratory1 · 21/08/2018 17:34

I noticed lots of triumph over adversity stories in the press after this years a levels so maybe the trend is changing a bit.

The higher/foundation and 3:3 versus u debate is also a reminder that grades 1 to 3 are actually technically a pass (or at least g to d were) and that is what a lot of dc will be aiming for as opposed to the c/4 and above for progression to other things. And whilst the government is insisting on retakes to try and get the c/4 I don’t think many actually do.

Now it’s getting near I am worrying about ds English language especially if his course work may have been moderated down ( and I have very little faith in his English department), so the closer it gets the more I will be happy with 5 to 7 for a level subjects and 4 s for the rest, with anything higher being a confidence boost and indicator for how the a levels might be rather than anything more.

mmmz · 21/08/2018 17:37

I know several posters are going through health issues either themselves or within close family, so I won't bore you with my worries, especially as I don't know what is going on yet. But just to say, it's amazing how it can all turn on the head of a pin, isn't it?

Two hours ago, my main concern this week was DS's results on Thursday, and then the phone rang and I suddenly have a potentially very ill mother.

Oratory1 · 21/08/2018 17:37

Goodbye it used to be that oxford paid attention to gcse (and as levels when they had them) and Cambridge were more interested in their own tests and interviews (especially since cambridge interview a bigger proportion) but don’t know if that’s still the case

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 21/08/2018 17:38

Mzzz sorry to hear that. Flowers Hope all is ok.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 21/08/2018 17:39

Sorry mmmz. Got your name change wrong. My phone keeps autocorrecting to your previous name. I don't think it likes change.

Oratory1 · 21/08/2018 17:40

Oh so sorry mmmz. You have been so supportive of everyone on here and set the tone in many ways and kept us going. I do hope things turn out ok. Fingers crossed for you

Sostenueto · 21/08/2018 17:42

Actually on our local TV apart from a couple of outstanding students there was quite a lot of A level students who didn't get what they wanted.

veiledsentiments · 21/08/2018 17:43

3 hours ahead of UK time here, but the grades go onto the portal. Can't remember the exact time, but do remember four years ago having to dig the eldest out of bed by around lunch time. She only wanted to know if she had made it into 6th form🙄.

LooseAtTheSeams · 21/08/2018 17:44

mmmz I’m so sorry to hear that - I hope everything turns out to be ok. Flowers

Flowers mmmz

Are you still stuck at the PIL's?

Stickerrocks · 21/08/2018 17:51

mzzz we're available to listen if you want to. There is nothing whatsoever that you can do regarding DS's results at this point, so concentrate on your mum. Is she in Scotland? I know from the health issues my mum has had this year and the ongoing saga with MIL that these things completely throw you because they are so unexpected and you quickly have to change focus. Thinking of you.

sandybayley · 21/08/2018 17:53

@mmmz - sending best wishes to you and your family. This thread does put things into perspective as various posters deal with health worries and DC who are dealing with some really big issues.

On a lighter note DH informs me that when DS1 left for work experience this AM he had to call him back as he'd left all the labels on his new suit. He also says that his top work tips were to offer to make colleagues coffee and ask people questions about themselves and what they did.

So if anyone had a 16 year old work experience person in today we in a shiny suit making copious amounts of coffee and asking questions it was DS1 Wink

AlexanderHamilton · 21/08/2018 17:54

So sorry to hear that mmzz. I hope she’s ok.

Oneteen · 21/08/2018 18:14

Sending you a virtual hug mmmz Flowers.

eaglefly · 21/08/2018 18:14

Hope all will be ok mmmz Thanks

TheThirdOfHerName · 21/08/2018 18:18

mmmz sorry to hear that your mother is unwell.

mmmz · 21/08/2018 18:18

Thanks everyone. There's not much to tell at the moment. She's been taken into hospital and they are doing tests, but it's all happened so quickly no one even knows for sure which hospital the ambulance went to, never mind what the tests are.
She's in Scotland and I'm hundreds of miles away at MIL's. We are due to go home tomorrow, but I obviously we had a few plans for Thursday that can hopefully still go ahead, but maybe will have to change a bit.

JufusMum · 21/08/2018 18:20

Sorry to hear that mmmz

I'm lurching between worried about English and that DD won't have enough for Sixth Form and thinking that low grade boundaries might mean her results look better.

Just looked at her wardrobes and she has put all her newly purchased Sixth Form stuff all neatly in one wardrobe. It's still got the tags on. I hope she gets to wear it.

Urgh. I feel sick. No amount of "what will be will be" conversations with DH are helping.

Just glad DD is dog sitting in another house I don't want to project my worry onto her.
