Bluebelle not really, because they don't have sixth form colleges, everyone just stays on at school and does Highers, if they get a B+ in the subject today.
Otherwise you stay on at school and do the GCSE equivalent exams (NAT5s) next year if you either failed today or weren't up to taking them first time around.

Sometimes resits later on are a good thing. I have mature students who sailed through levels 1 and 2 on functional skills this year and built up their confidence in English. They are coming back to start GCSE in September! In some cases they already have interesting jobs but are now ready to progress further. One student does amazing work with young people on social issues but is looking ahead to training as a teacher, for example.

mmzz · 07/08/2018 10:30

They've both done well. What a relief!

That is good news Smile

JufusMum · 07/08/2018 10:45

Good news mmzz!

hmcAsWas · 07/08/2018 11:00

Morning. I haven't posted since thread 12 or 13 I think... Just needed a break from thinking about GCSE's and possible results. Now with just a couple of weeks to go before 'the reckoning' I'm ready to get back into the mindset!

How is everyone?

KingscoteStaff · 07/08/2018 11:02

Hooray! No diplomacy needed!

Please send all unneeded diplomacy to me as I start my week’s holiday with one Marxist and one Libertarian family. I’m hoping they will meet up at the extremist end of their beliefs.

Either that, or I am going to have to spend a lot of time building large and complicated sandcastles with the little ones... (Garden spade packed ready in boot of car)

LooseAtTheSeams · 07/08/2018 11:15

mmzz hurray! Glad to hear it!
Kingscote complicated sandcastles sound like a good plan. Or earplugs?!
hmc welcome back! It's the night before the results that I'm not looking forward to - I know I won't sleep well!

hmcAsWas · 07/08/2018 11:18

Or not sleep at all Loose - eek!

slinkyme · 07/08/2018 11:25

Great news mmzz.

Seen the results thread on scotsnet and I can imagine we will all be going through the same emotions in couple of weeks time.

We got our first set of results on 14th morning and we will be away in a hotel - have to remind DD to take her log in details with her so she can check - not sure if she will agree to getting up at 6 but we have an early start so shouldn't be much later.

slinkyme · 07/08/2018 12:03

We get not got

mmzz · 07/08/2018 12:41

slinkyme she doesn't even have to get up... she can do it lying in bed on her phone. All she needs to do is open her eyes and hold the phone.

Stickerrocks · 07/08/2018 13:23

hmc Yay, you're back!

I keep saying "we" and "our results" too. They're not mine, they're hers! Whatever I say on 23rd, it's bound to be wrong. Congratulating other people is so much easier (well done mmzz's Scottish lot.)

teenmum60 · 07/08/2018 13:41

Oratory1 Well done to your DS on getting a job ...I need to get DD back in work mode she's had the summer off.

I jotted down what grades I thought DD would get shortly after the exams but TBH I dont have a clue other than I think she would be disappointed with she didnt get an A* in Physics and pass both History & French. The only exam I was fairly confident she would do well in is DT because she had already done 60% of the exam but the written exam paper was different to any others they had sat so even that grade is not easy to predict

DD is away with NCS not sure how its going but I'm guessing OK given I have not heard from her ...I thought after I dropped her off how brave she was going to spend 4 nights with a whole group of DC's she didnt know and had only briefly met them once for a couple of hours on the induction.

Kingscote - I would definitely opt for the sandcastle building.

Glad your friends DC's got good results mmzz.

cubscout · 07/08/2018 17:49

I'm very definitely in the 'congratulate all' camp - actually I think those kids that work really hard need more congrats sometimes thatn those for whom it is fairly effortless.

neither am I predicting ds results. The school have to make predictions but really I don't think any of us know anything about grade boundaries! And 97% for a 9 in geog seems a bit harsh - particularly as the papers were quite hard.

Ds applying for masses of jobs but no luck yet - he's quite despondent. It's the real world though and perhaps an important lesson to learn. he's not really seeing much of his 'friends' though - they always seem busy :(

It all seems quite close now....

farangatang · 07/08/2018 18:03

Congratulations to DC who have gained jobs - I've seriously impressed at their motivation and maturity! DD seems to have regressed this holiday - discovered a bit of relaxation and decided it is far superior to the alternative (despite pre-A Level work to be done). What can I say, she's 'all or nothing'!

Only a week until first results for her...

mmzz · 07/08/2018 18:05

15 days, 15 hours until 9am on the 23rd.

(I just looked it up)

That's not much, is it? I think I won't point it out to DS.

Shock Shock Shock

Oratory1 · 07/08/2018 19:16

Hmm downside of the job is I don’t think holiday work will get done !! Experience gained is probably more valuable as DS knowledge of what goes on in the wider world is negligible so this will hopefully open his eyes a bit even to simple things like names of things people buy and how tills and credit cards work and what things cost !!! He will also have to talk to people 😀. Would have been good to have given his brain a refresh on some of the holiday work though too as he forgets so much between terms.

Oratory1 · 07/08/2018 19:17

Maybe I’ll push that a bit after results day when a levels seem more real

mmzz · 07/08/2018 20:41

Two hours ago, the BBC weather said 95% chance of rain for 8pm with temperatures dropping to 14C. I've been looking forward to it, fantasising about a proper night's sleep and drinking something other than chilled water.
I just checked the thermometer and it's 27C and there is no rain. Even worse, the shy is red!

OP posts:
Stickerrocks · 07/08/2018 20:47

It rained here earlier. Big, fat, sandy Saharan raindrops which have made my grubby looking car look even filthier. It's still hot & sticky with a definite feeling of thunder in the air.

hmcAsWas · 07/08/2018 20:55

Thanks for the 'Yay' Stickerrocks Grin

DD hasn't got a job either farangatang - she made a half arsed attempt by sending out half a dozen speculative letters but only got one bite - and they wanted her to train up straight away but she was due to go on a fortnights holiday, so that was that

Bit of drizzle here and the evening is not quite so oppressively hot. I have not enjoyed Costa Del UK so will embrace the forecast cooler

hmcAsWas · 07/08/2018 20:56

...weather (missing word from previous post)

Oratory1 · 07/08/2018 20:59

Sounds like we are lucky to have a few local outlets desperate for staff
