Kingscote Harlequins have just announced a sponsorship deal with Hunters Wellies. I've never found their boots broad enough for a chunky calf, let alone those of the pack! I shall ponder Chris Robshaw's thighs for a few moments...

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 02/08/2018 19:25

Rugby players, I used to have a professional rugby player living next door, til he got injured. Plays for Harlequins now...

Black leather converse look good, would have to be the completely plain ones for school though. And I realise I can't spell Schuh.

teenmum60 · 02/08/2018 19:47

DD wore black leather converse type school shoes for about 3 years...she's keen to look at Dr Martens (shoes) for school...I think they do a soft leather shoe...Factory outlet is just 25 minutes away from us so I'm going to pop in tomorrow because they actually sell the DM's made in England.

Loose - DD has some really ripped shorts too I was very relieved when she decided to buy some non ripped jeans before she went away on holiday.

androbbob · 02/08/2018 21:32

Evening all! Finally got back on here after a week or so of general business with DS leaving primary school and DD going off to NCS. On her second week now and in student accommodation n the outskirts of Liverpool. Not the most lovely place, but is a gated community on the edge of town and there seemed to be hundreds of them there. I have had a couple of text from her and she is back tomorrow lunchtime.

Yes, it is now August and three weeks today we will all know the fate of our DC - quite a scary thought! DD decided she is going to go in early (9am) and then go back for her 6th form interview at 12pm. No doubt that will change before that - have already been told that I can drive her there and wait outside! Not sure what her plans are but me, DS and his cousin and my Sis in law are going out for lunch!! Whether she joins us or not remains to be seem - if her friends are going out then she should be with them.

Hope everyone is keeping well and Sos and AlexHam DH are doing ok

TheThirdOfHerName · 02/08/2018 22:42

Have bought DS2 two suits; both nearly new from eBay. One Next, one Moss Bros. One fits now, the other is a smidge too big.

In Paris now, in a lovely AirBNB apartment with a rooftop terrace. A few days of sightseeing planned so may not be able to post as regularly as usual.

View from apartment attached.

What a great view. Have a good time

teenmum60 · 03/08/2018 00:13

Third - What a lovely photo - enjoy Paris

terfterf · 03/08/2018 00:16

Oh god. On hol at mum's. Argued with DH before we came so still not talking as I'm so angry with him. DM treats him like prodigal son so am cross with her too. DSs being ok but bickering like normal so cross with them. DMs neighbours is good friend of mine too so am confiding in her but she is super sensitive about everything. So it's all a bit fraught. And we end up drinking too much. And me staying up late to vent on here or too my friends at home, who are also now on holiday with their parents and we're all just morning about them! AaarghGrinGrinGrin GCSE results seems like a total picnic right now....

HesMyLobster · 03/08/2018 01:51

Third that looks fabulous, hope you have a wonderful time, love Paris.

Terf I'm sorry, but your post made me chuckle! Grin I do feel your pain though - I couldn't spend more than a day at a time with my parents without killing somebody!!

Hope things are less fraught in the morning, if not, stock up on gin! WinkGin

LooseAtTheSeams · 03/08/2018 07:10

Third lovely photo! Have a great time sightseeing - there is so much to pack in!
Terf I do sympathise. We do day trips to the in laws so not in that position but I remember several family holidays where I drank a lot more wine than usual!
Had an early night last night so of course now up early, sigh.

mmzz · 03/08/2018 07:27

TheThird have a great time in Paris, but find some shade (and, if possible air conditioning) later this afternoon as it's going to be 35C.

Terf that's a great description of visiting parents! Exactly what it feels like no matter how pleasant it appeared when being planned a couple of months earlier.

We are off to MILs for a few days soon. DH and I always fall out when there, if we haven't argued before we even set off. To my horror, I've realised, over the years, that my ultimate punishment of not talking to him, isn't much of a punishment at all as far as he's concerned. In fact, as long as no one else senses an atmosphere between us, he quite likes the quiet that he can then fill with his awful long playlists (note to self: hide the iPod!!)

OP posts:
terfterf · 03/08/2018 08:15

mmzz exactly!! In fact I had a dream last night in which DH started snuggling up to me and I brushed him off and he hadn't realised I was trying to ignore him! I think we may get have to have a bit of a chat today and clear the air.

DS2 likes to get up early and sit downstairs where it's quiet and play on his phone before breakfast. DM comes down and is all loud and in his face. He HATES it and told me yesterday it's spoiling his holiday and he doesn't want to shout at her and it's making him shout at me instead Sad So this morning I have to protect him. I expect I'll end up in the wrong all round....

Wish I were in Paris!

Oddsocks15 · 03/08/2018 08:21

Third lovely photo, I love Paris

terf what a great description Grin

Week 3 of NCS nearly done for DD, conversation has dried up. Can’t afford to take her out for meals every time I’m trying to extract information Hmm Car journeys used to work but she sits in silence or is huffy so just an extension of home!!

mmzz · 03/08/2018 08:34

Oddsocks I hope I'm not confusing you with someone else. Was it your DD who found out in March/April that they'd been put in for the foundation paper for a particular subject and was determined to pay privately for a late application to sit the higher paper?
Whatever happened with that? Did the school comply and did she sit the higher paper?

slinkyme · 03/08/2018 08:56

It is so funny to hear all these stories. It's the same in every family isn't it. Sympathise with inlaw issues and I too love Paris.

So just on train back having escorted DD to her work experience in central London - it was supposed to be at a local hospital to us but once date changed location too changed to some clinic in London. It was a bit complicated and she needed to be there really early so I said I will go with her but she will make her own way back. Had usual panic of trying to find right clothes to wear - why is it so difficult? And my usual why can't you be more organised?

On way back now to log in and crack on with a days work. Have a deadline for this afternoon and need to get my head down and work now.

Stickerrocks · 03/08/2018 09:17

Ellen you can't leave it at that. 95% of our squad are permanently injured or red carded!

Finishing week 2 of NCS today, so DH and I have to be back from our tour of the West in time to fetch her. She wants to eat out tonight, so we may hear what she's done.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 03/08/2018 09:54

I just googled him stickerrocks and he's left Harlequins and moved to Moseley. He's called Tim Molenaar and is a Kiwi. I live in a very normal 3 bed semi and he and his young family rented next door when he played locally. It's a tough life in many ways. Unless you are right at the top of the ladder you tend to have to move quite often, so it was hard for them to get settled and make friends. It was great seeing other rather more famous players pop by in their monster 4x4s and I might have drooled at the Maoris. Blush

Paris is on my list, TheThird. Amsterdam was a definite success with the DSs, though.

My DSs don't have any grandparents left alive. They were all in their 70s to 90s so not young, but they had their children in their 30s and 40s and so did I so we didn't have them as grandparents for all that long. My exH's parents were around 10 years older than mine and they seemed like a different generation and were very eccentric. No way would I have spent a night in their house! Luckily they lived near my parents so we stayed there and just visited. Lovely people but both born in the early 1920s.

In retrospect that 'eccentricity' pretty much explains DS2's autism.

JufusMum · 03/08/2018 10:33

Just a note on marks, when we collected DD's English Literature result mark last year the marks were on the sheet - 4 marks off a 6 and school refused to send back for remarking!

AlexanderHamilton · 03/08/2018 12:19

Ok - I know this is a total hi-jack of this thread but can I direct you lovely people over here please

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/petitions_noticeboard/3325524-Oliver-s-tragic-death?watched=1&msgid=79937353#79937353

ReservoirDogs · 03/08/2018 12:38

Jufus - it may be because some subjects there was only an 8 mark gap between grade boundaries so it was just as likely to go down as up.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 03/08/2018 12:49

Thanks for the link, Alexander, I've signed. I've come across some ignorant (of autism) HCPs including one OOH GP who tried to convince me that DS2 couldn't have ASD because he was too calm. He had a temperature of 39 degrees, he was pretty bloody subdued. Angry

AlexanderHamilton · 03/08/2018 13:07

The ignorance is mind blowing. I've had a practice nurse say are you seure he's autistic he doesn't look it?

In Oliver's case I think that what happened is that he became agitated because he was bombarded and overwhelmed and so the anti psychotic drug was given. Had the so called professionals followed best practice in dealing with an autistic person and taken account of sensory and other issues it wouldn't have been needed. His parents told the health care professionals he had previously suffered an allergic reaction to this drug but they went and gave it to him anyway.

mmzz · 03/08/2018 13:08

I've signed it.
The boy was 18, just two years older than DS1 is now. I couldn't bear it if something happened to him, worse if it was completely preventable.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 03/08/2018 13:09

Blimey, that's so tragic.

LooseAtTheSeams · 03/08/2018 13:20

I've signed it. Thanks for posting the link Alexander. It's such a tragic story.
