Sostenueto great to hear about dgd's prom preparations and glad you're seeing a transformation in the garden - good news for you and pup!
I'm not doing any open days until I see the colour of the GCSE results! And till I know for sure what A levels DS is doing.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 24/06/2018 08:56

Sounds like dd's prom went very well last night. She came home at 2.40 am buzzing about it. She'd had a bottle of cider but wasn't very drunk. She woke me up to tell me the only other lesbian in her year asked for her number and they sat chatting outside for ages.

I really wasn't expecting the full conventional prom experience from her. I thought she might not go or maybe make a stand and wear a suit but she fully embraced the whole thing. Hair and nails done, lovely make up done by dfc.

She looked stunning. Considering I have to nag her to brush her hair most of the time it was lovely to see her enjoying getting dressed up.

Also a special mention for lovely foster child age 13 who comes to us on respite once a month. She had apparently been having major anxiety about doing the make up in case it wasn't perfect enough. She did an absolutely stunning job. It was still perfect at 3am. I'm so proud of her because she really struggles with pressure like this and I know she has been worried about it but really wanted to do it.

A proud day all round for me. I'm taking them both out for a roast today to celebrate.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 24/06/2018 09:00

Oh and the dress fitted perfectly thanks to 5 days of no junk and a walk every night. Smile

Yet another stunning dress, sounds like your DD really enjoyed herself Kick . I will be relieved once DS's is over or more importantly the after party!!

I agree going to an open day now when your DC doesn't know what they want to do or even if they want to go wouldn't be advisable. We have been to one as DS is thinking about medicine and I want him to find out as much as possible, plus as we arrived later in the afternoon it wasn't that busy and so it was easy to talk to plenty of med students.

LooseAtTheSeams · 24/06/2018 11:27

Kick the dress looks lovely - fabulous colour. I’m very impressed by the young make-up artist. I can’t keep mascara from smudging!
Bluebelle it’s definitely worth getting the feel of things but at the moment DS is set on psychology and hasn’t studied it before, so I’m going to wait a bit longer in case computer science comes back into favour!

KingscoteStaff · 24/06/2018 11:45

Kick what elegant hands she has!

I sound like Little Red Riding Hood...!

Aragog · 24/06/2018 12:16

Lovely dress

mmzz · 24/06/2018 13:58

I'm looking at DS right now. He has such a broad smile on his face thanks to the 5-0 half time score England v Panama.

It's lovely to see him so happy after all those months of being under the cosh.
I feel like I've got my son back.

Mmzz......I spent the afternoon with ds yesterday.

We shopped and chatted and went for coffee and it was lovely.

I feel like I’m getting my son back too. 💕💕💕

Oratory1 · 24/06/2018 18:13

Hmm mine has retreated to the computer (not interested in football) and not made it out of his pj s !! At least I saw more of him during revision sessions 😀. Seriously though it is nice not to be watching the clock all the time

InMySpareTime · 24/06/2018 19:17

We've been on a huge scout camp all weekend, with 160 people from toddlers to adults camping Shock.
Glad I don't have to wake DS tomorrow, I think he'll sleep a long time tonight!
Prom is Thursday for DS, after 6th Form induction day.

Sostenueto · 24/06/2018 19:51

Hello to all!
Lovely dresses on thread!
Feeling human today and start of 2nd week of treatment tomorrow. Bearing up under strain OK.
Busy week ahead for dgd who is laughing and pranking today. Induction day Tuesday and prom Thursday. Massive water fight in garden with both dds dgd and dgs and pup! Nice to see everyone relaxed.
Agree with loose no open days for uni till GCSE results and a firm decision on A levels as she has changed her mind frequently in the last month.
Great to hear alexanders family together and hoping for speedy recovery of dh.Flowers
Trying to catch up in bits but thread always going at allegro speed! ( sometimes presto!) So apologies if I miss anyone's comments.

Stickerrocks · 24/06/2018 20:12

Delighted to catch up on the latest news. Sost's DGD has reminded me that I need to practice tottering in heels before my cruise. Yesterday was a very long day as my sat nav crashed on the way to Wembley and I got horrendously lost, then the traffic was at a standstill on the way home. On the bright side, Taylor Swift's special guest was Robbie Williams. They sang Angels, which DD had sung at her infant school leaving assembly many years ago. Serendipity.

BackforGood · 24/06/2018 20:27

KickBisho's dd My dds' all girls school does prom with the local boys' school. No-one else can go if they don't attend either school - which I think makes a lot of sense. People go with their mates, not as 'couples'. It's been lovely seeing some of her photos of lads I've not seen since junior school turned into strapping young men Smile. the schools don't do anything else together.

TheThirdOfHerName · 24/06/2018 21:01

DS2 has work experience this week at the local library. It's not that he wants to become a librarian, but the school requires him to have a placement, and he likes the local library and has volunteered there.

Some university libraries employ students as part-time assistant librarians and he is interested in doing that in the future.

The library isn't open on Thursday so I'm taking him to a university open day.

Sostenueto · 24/06/2018 21:03

Glad a good time was had stickerocks!
At £40 a ticket for prom don't think there will be all pupils attending. Actually not sure if outsiders allowedConfused

TheThirdOfHerName · 24/06/2018 21:06

To show the difference in interest in prom between DS2's school and the linked girls' school:

Boys' school: 80 boys (out of 190) have bought tickets.
Girls' school: 125 girls (out of 180) have bought tickets.

sandybayley · 24/06/2018 21:56

Well we had a v significant day today. DS1 and DH played cricket on opposing sides and DS1 only went and bowled DH. Cricket is a huge love of DH's so this is quite a big deal.

I think part of him was cross at getting out and part him felt the emotion of his firstborn becoming an adult. Sorry if that sounds a bit icky but it did feel like something of a David Attenborough moment as the the young chased the old one from the pride.

DS1 is settling nicely into his life of leisure and the exams feel like a lifetime ago.

@Sostenueto - glad to hear treatment is going well. Hope you get to enjoy your lovely garden in this glorious weather.

LooseAtTheSeams · 25/06/2018 08:22

Sostenueto glad to hear you're feeling ok and wishing you all the best for tomorrow. Enjoy the garden today! SmileThanks I don't think DS experienced sunlight yesterday but he was in the garden the day before relaxing with the cat!

Stickerrocks · 25/06/2018 08:28

Sandy DD started beating me at tennis a couple of years ago. I look on it as a good investment of my time & money, as it least it shows it worked! Far more worthwhile than the energy I put into getting her to gymnastics with the sole purpose of mastering a backward roll so that she wouldn't suffer the same humiliation as me in PE. We gave up after 3 years. Neither of us are designed to do a backward roll.

Stickerrocks · 25/06/2018 08:33

Sost A good dose of sunshine is bound to keep your spirits high, but don't forget your suncream! (I do love nagging someone who may actually listen.) I'm currently working on DD's strap marks with moisturiser with self-tan in before she dons her backless dress on Friday. They gave an award on Friday to the two Most Likely To Overdo The Fake Tan For Prom!

Stickerrocks · 25/06/2018 08:37

Alexander Just spotted your post. Is DD simply focusing on the performing arts side of things now then for the next few weeks? One of my friends is in the whirl of panto auditions to tide her over the winter, trying to find something close enough to London for the West End auditions starting in January.

Pleased to hear DH has been signed off. It should be lovely weather for him to lounge around, IF you can persuade him to relax.

LooseAtTheSeams · 25/06/2018 08:40

Stickerrocks a timely reminder on sunscreen! I got told off yesterday for forgetting.
Alexander I also hope your DH is able to take it easy and enjoy this weather and definitely not think about work.
Sostenueto reassured I don't have the only dc who dithers about options and plans!

JufusMum · 25/06/2018 09:28

DD has gone off to Sixth Form Induction at first choice of Sixth Form, she looked so happy today going off with her best friend.
It's so refreshing after seeing her so unhappy going to school the past few years. A bit of a lump in the throat moment.
