Guess what I did this morning? DS2 has an end of (GCSE) topic test tomorrow, so I tested him. Isn't it lucky the revision guide was still on the coffee table where DS1 left it in Friday morning?!

DS2 moaned about it. Asked why does he need to revise? I switched into autopilot and DS1 just grinned from across the room.

I knew it would all start again, but so soon??

Stickerrocks someone actually raised that with you as a complaint?? Why should they care?

cubscout · 17/06/2018 16:40

We are keeping a few revision guides and text books - some for 'sentimental' reasons (music) others for A level choices (Physics, Geography) and the rest are going on a selling site or being given to younger friends. I have a HUGE box of recycling now though, past papers, notes etc which I will deal with tomorrow! I can now see my dining table.

GettinTrimmer · 17/06/2018 16:42

I'm with you Sticker on the non ironing of uniform, there are better things to do!

LooseAtTheSeams · 17/06/2018 16:43

Stickerrocks I never iron shirts - they get hung up in the bathroom to wait for someone to have a shower!

GettinTrimmer · 17/06/2018 16:45

I don't iron unless I'm shamed into it!

Catching up after a fab weekend away (thread 14!!) with a very happy DD1 and DD2 (although only one has to go to school tomorrow!)

Sost I want to read your autobiography - now DGD has finished GCSEs you have time to write it. I am wondering if you know one of my colleagues, of true northern brass band stock. He has lived in the country where I now live for around 18 years now and DD2 had the privilege of being taught by him. He talked of his mentor who sounds remarkably identical to yours! He's in his mid-60s now - initials CM.

Thanks for all the sympathy about my poor butt, too. Have survived on painkillers all weekend and was able to see the elephants and walk up and down hotel stairs with little issue. Most fun thing is being asked at school by all these little eager faces 'Remember when you fell down at choir?' and particularly touched by the re-enactment one Y2 girl gave to explain to the class TA what had happened.

I did see her knickers, so there's no way the kids escaped the view. Perhaps that was the real reason for the horror on their faces - and here I was thinking it was empathy...

farangatang · 17/06/2018 17:11

stickerrocks : To give me if I'm making assumptions, but so many of our DC seem to fall into what I (lovingly) call the freaks & geeks category, because they do music, sport, dance and so on rather than just hang out in shopping centres. Perhaps we should form their own FB group and introduce them to each other, because I think they would all get on!

I agree!!

sandy I will be watching for your appearance on this year's Apprentice (or did I see you last season already?). DDs and I are addicted to that show. And Strictly!

Stickerrocks · 17/06/2018 17:13

mmzz It was 100% genuine. I think she was trying to prove herself as super mum to make up for the fact that her own parents had packed her off to boarding school aged 7. I will never be Nigella Lawson, but I really didn't think DD's shirts were particularly dingy.

KingscoteStaff · 17/06/2018 17:15

Lovely shiny new thread!

We had a Year 11 Parents’ party on Friday night and I was trying to see if I could pick out those who were finished. Turns out it was very obvious!

mmzz · 17/06/2018 17:18

Stickerrocks someone who does that has real problems. I wonder how it was supposed to play out in her head? Maybe you were supposed to seek her advice? Or creep away, shamed by her truth.

TheThirdOfHerName · 17/06/2018 17:21

Feeling honoured that you went with my suggestion of thread title. Smile

DS2 is supposed to be revising Further Maths and is actually playing D&D. I think it's hard for those who still have exams to keep the momentum going when most of their friends are celebrating/relaxing.

farangatang · 17/06/2018 17:24

Kitties I don't play brass, either!

mmzz - DD1 so like your DS while DD2 also constantly being invited out by her millions of friends. Really upsets DD1 sometimes. It's hard

Sost I've just caught up that you're having serious medical treatment. Flowers and prayers.

Eve and Always your DDs are so lucky to have such strong, supportive mums. I hope you get the TLC you need, too.

Alexander how is your DH?

CONGRATULATIONS to all DC who have finished, and best of luck to those still slogging through to the end of this very long exam season.

Stickerrocks · 17/06/2018 17:27

Well, to be brutally honest, she probably just didn't like me and was a bit of a cow. She was the sort of person who would query why DD had been given a place on the tennis team and little Jemima hadn't, when little Jemima was already in the hockey team but had never lifted a tennis racket in her life. I'm waiting to see if her DD resurfaces at 6th form.

KingscoteStaff · 17/06/2018 17:35

Sticker, when DS was in the last weeks of Juniors, he and a friend were both speaking in the Leavers’ Assembly. It was only when they came up to speak that I noticed that their greyish shirts that had been worn for the last 2 years + stained with paint and mud (not to mention sadly outgrown) had been subtly replaced with sparkling white new ones by the lovely office lady!

Stickerrocks · 17/06/2018 17:54

Kingscote Grin

PeggySchuylar · 17/06/2018 18:10

Yes. Looking forward to aftermath too.
Turns out I was jumping the gun with untwisting our knicjers as we filled ladt thread do fast some haven't even finished much less had chance to unwind.

DS y7 was fussing about doing a bit of revision fir end of year exams. DD said sagely

"You'll find it's better to work with mum than fight her." Grin

sandybayley · 17/06/2018 18:24

Thanks @mmzz for the new thread.

Been busy all day with FD BBQ but visitors have all left and we're about to settle down to sing-a-long 'Greatest Showman'. DS1 has retired upstairs to do some more Ad Maths.

Teenmum60 · 17/06/2018 18:31

Sost - hope your OK...Flowers Hope things also improve for Third too

The Play That Goes Wrong was brilliant - incredibly funny - highly recommend peeps going to see it... My legs and back are not feeling happy ...having carried rucksacks to hotel whilst the girls went shopping - including one that said Crazy but Cute....lovely atmosphere in London on Friday/Saturday lots of teens sat by the London Eye...

Fab news from my brother today - my niece got a First in her Geography degree...she didnt even go into Uni on the first day of results because she thought she'd messed up ...bless her - so double celebration its her 21st next week..

DD will be wearing a Uniform ...not to badly priced ...I worked out two skirts/one jacket and 5 blouses would be around £270 (Its suit style)...hoping I can pick up a few more blouses from secondhand sale (always a nightmare with two homes and DF normally manages to ruin one or two in the wash).

DD's blouses definitely looked grotts in the last few months - they were either two small (popping at the bust) or grey from DF washing them ...the only decent one got written all over -thankfully DD abandoned the Cardie for a Jumper even on hot days.
It also seemed cool to have thick ripped tights (with long ladders) including at large presentations in front off non school staff ....

DD at Df's which I am relieved about - I was not enjoying being snapped at yesterday afternoon...I know its partly hormones (period) and leg pain but she couldnt take the hint to give me space when I was very disappointed with her rude, tactless behavior and would not back off... We had the - I'm packing all my things and going to live with dad, 1 minute later - he doesnt love or care about me either ...then she decided not to go to DF's until this morning...

The aftermath has started but she doesn't finish exams until Tuesday!

LooseAtTheSeams · 17/06/2018 18:32

Peggy Grin love it! That should be on a T shirt!
DS2 is pretty miffed at having Y8 exams while DS1 doesn’t have to go to school at all. However, he has started to revise, so as long as he does something every day I’m saying nothing. I don’t have much exam energy left in me!

You'll find it's better to work with mum than fight her.

Wise words indeed.

TheThirdOfHerName · 17/06/2018 19:09

Sostenueto hope your treatment goes well. Sometimes these things can make you feel worse than the symptoms of the illness itself, but hopefully that won't be the case for you.
