Speedypenguin · 11/06/2018 18:52

Hi

I've been reading along for a few weeks. My DS has come down with something at the weekend. We've just been to the doctors and he has steroids, antibiotics and an inhaler. His temperature is quite high and he's fallen asleep. I think revision is a lost cause tonight!

Can any of this be taken into account if it has an effect on his exams tomorrow? He made it in today but apparently coughed all the way through which no doubt annoyed everyone around him and wasn't helping him either.

Get a doctor's note if possible and contact the exams officer at school before his next exam.

mmzz · 11/06/2018 18:57

Speedypenguin I am sorry. it must be very stressful. I think it can be taken into consideration. I think the phrase is something like "Special Consideration". The way to do it is to contact the school - maybe the head of year? - and ask them for advice.

Speedypenguin
Email the exams officer this evening.
Ask for a doctor's note tomorrow.

Poor him, chest infections are horrible.

mmzz · 11/06/2018 18:58

Ellenjane knows better than me - exams officer, not HoY.

Thank you.

I'll have to try and get hold of them in the morning. The doctor did put everything down in the notes (he has a son doing them at the moment he said). Oh well. Nearly there!

DS2 has told me next to nothing about his Biology & Geography exams. He is not one for post-exam analysis at the best of times, and by the time I get home from work he has usually put the day's exams behind him.

Today's conversation:
Me: Tell me how today's exams went.
DS2: Do I have to?
Me: Yes.
DS2: They both went fine.
Me: Were you happy with the Biology paper?
DS2: There was a question on eutrophication. Do you know if eutrophication involves deamination? Because DS3 was asking me.
Me:

hmcAsWas · 11/06/2018 19:04

Just seen your post Speedy - as others have said, the Exam Officer should be able to help and almost certainly has encountered a similar scenario before. What bad luck!

Definitely contact the exams officer speedy & hope he feels better soon.

Speedypenguin · 11/06/2018 19:08

mmzz
To be honest he just needs 5 passes so as long as he can get 4/5s that will be ok. Its just a shame as he has put in the most work he's ever done and is capable of getting more.
At least the sciences are not tomorrow. He will hopefully be on the mend soon.

hmcAsWas · 11/06/2018 19:09

I don't think I dare ask whether dd used the term eutrophication for the sewage question - am tempted, but best not go there (as ever, ignorance is bliss)

Oratory1 · 11/06/2018 19:11

Ha ha Maybe we should have maths somewhere in the next title - I hope those not doing maths (if there are any) don’t feel left out.
Ds 3 doing gcse s
DD 1 doing placement year as third year of a four year uni course (biomed science).
DD2 gap year before uni in September

Day boy at small, very non selective, local boarding school and staying for sixth form.

Dyslexic, shy, non sporty, loves music, drama and history (and used to play D and D too !!) Strikes me that a lot of our DC would probably get in well in rl !!

LooseAtTheSeams · 11/06/2018 19:11

Other dcs - DS2 (Y8)
A level intentions (at the moment) maths, biology and psychology.

TheThirdOfHerName · 11/06/2018 19:12

D&D is Dungeons and Dragons. He currently plays in several groups:

  1. Group of close school friends who play D&D weekly in real life, on a table with actual dice.
  2. Weekly D&D club at school, set up two years ago by above group, where they teach younger kids the game.
  3. Online D&D games most weekends with a group on Discord, most of whom live in the U.S.
Oratory1 · 11/06/2018 19:16

Whoops - a bit confused there - I only have one DS

And a level choices - CS, Marhd and physics providing his physics grade isn’t too low.

Surprised how many seem to be doing 4 or more a levels at least at the start
