I'm panicking that secondary application may not have been submitted

My DH made an online application. We should have received an e-mail on 1st March informing us which school DS has been offered. He didn't receive anything and can't find any record of the application, a confirmation or a six digit code that our local authority mentions you need to log in to your account. Nothing in the post either (although it says letters are sent by second class post on 1st..and with the snow we possibly wouldn't have that by now anyway). It hasn't been possible to speak to anyone at the council to check.
Other parents have all had the e-mail. I'm pretty convinced that for whatever reason DH didn't submit an application properly.
In the interests of not drip feeding, we have put down a school as first choice that we were not expecting to be offered, but were planning to appeal. I'm now really worried that we may not even get the second choice school.
Does anyone know what happens if you apply after the deadline and what the implications are likely to be? Any advice much appreciated.

You need to telephone them on Monday really.

Hoppinggreen · 03/03/2018 15:19

I believe that as a late application you will be allocated a place at the nearest school that has a place available

Gileswithachainsaw · 03/03/2018 15:20

What county are you?

Mine is bucks. You had to set up the account in order to apply. There was no code needed to log in nuts an email address and pass word.

Has he had any correspondence at All? There were reminder emails sent out about checking you can still enter the portal.

Did he submit address evidence you should have had a confirmation of this also

Is he using the right email address.

Check spam folder ?

strongandlong · 03/03/2018 15:21

Our LA treats late applications as in-year applications. The council website will probably tell you.

I agree that a phone call on Monday is the first step!

Nightmare, OP. Hope you get it sorted.

Hersetta427 · 03/03/2018 15:21

Search your email account for your county name and the word admissions. If you applied online they would have send an email confirming they have your application.

Friskyandhustley · 03/03/2018 15:22

Thanks Kinorsam. I know, hopefully they'll be properly open next week. It was emergencies only last week because of skeleton staffing (snow). I'm just wondering if there's anything in particular we should ask/ do. Presumably late applications mean that you're at the very bottom of the pile and are just offered what's left.

It does seem odd that you have no confirmation that your application was received. Do you have nothing at all that would show that your DH at least attempted to make an online application? It is sometimes possible to show that the problem lies at the LEA's end - software glitch or whatever - in which case they should accept that the application was made in time.

You do need to speak to the admissions team ASAP. If you have to make a new application now, you will be offered whatever is available - possibly not a school you would have picked and possibly not close to home.

lougle · 03/03/2018 15:23

I'm in Hampshire. They sent an email out 2 weeks ago to check that the email address we gave them worked. Then they sent out the emails on the 1st. You can also check the status through the portal.

Friskyandhustley · 03/03/2018 15:29

Thanks all. He has done lots of different searches and there's no sign of anything. I'm pretty sure he didn't submit it properly if I'm honest, if he had there'd be some sort of trail. I'm worried about what will happen, but trying not to let DS pick up on any of it, at least until we have an idea what's happening. I can't believe I didn't check with DH that he'd had a confirmation that the application had been received.

If the online application was not submitted or failed for some reason, there’s no way that someone somewhere should not have noticed. In our LA the primary schools will liaise with the LA (even for academy schools, not just LA schools) to ensure all applications are received, and then all offered places are either accepted or rejected. Obviously you’re going to have to speak to your LA but you should speak to someone at your primary school first thing Monday too.

TheWoollybacksWife · 03/03/2018 15:36

Just in case you are in Northamptonshire the email will have come from "[email protected]"

I hope you sort it Thanks

reallyanotherone · 03/03/2018 15:39

Have you gone to the application site and see if you can log in? Password may be stored automatically- or try reset password.

If you can log in you should be able to see if an application was submitted and if so, the outcome...

galwaygrand · 03/03/2018 15:41

Do you think DH might not have got round to it..?

ReinettePompadour · 03/03/2018 15:46

Definitely try to log onto the admissions portal. Click the forgot password link. If it says it doesn't recognise your email address then it wasnt sent. If it sends you a password reset link then you should be able to see which school you were allocated.

In addition contact them Monday for confirmation.

Gileswithachainsaw · 03/03/2018 15:49

Has he got more than one email address.

Ask him what he submitted as address evidence

Friskyandhustley · 03/03/2018 15:51

Speaking to primary school is a good idea, that's helpful Judas, I'll ring them on Monday.
I don't think DH didn't do it, he told me at the time that it had gone. It's odd though, that the system didnt do some sort of immidiate error message to say if it hadn't gone through/ needed more info or whatever. I'll quiz him a bit more about how it worked when he gets home. It's all a bit sensitive - he doesn't want to discuss it any further until we've been able to talk to the council to see what's actually happened.

CremeBrulee · 03/03/2018 15:59

Can't you go the online portal where DH thinks he made the application and log in? Should be a lost my ID / lost my password facility on there.

We applied online and have logged in to see our allocation but haven't had an email from the LA. Have had one from the school confirming our place though.

Almostthere15 · 03/03/2018 16:00

I think trying the admissions portal is a good idea. It will at least tell you if the email is registered. How stressful for you. I hope you can resolve Monday.

I should say though I think you need to prepare for the fact that the application wasn't submitted, either by mistake (the system didn't work) or because DH forgot and now can't admit it

spiney · 03/03/2018 16:01

I am in a similar situation to you - no email and everybody else with emails. I was really worried.

After trawling through my emails I found a submission acknowledgement. BUT I had opted ( god knows why ) to hear by post.....

We are snowed up here SO no post at all.

Could that be the case with you?

Nixen · 03/03/2018 16:04

Hate it to say it OP but sounds like your DH has dropped the ball and knows it, hence the ‘not wanting to discuss it until we know what’s happened’

spiney · 03/03/2018 16:04

The admissions portal didn't accept my log in details ( that they gave meHmm) but that has happened to a few I know. And no lost password facility. But I don't think these council websites are thAt great.

But just served to make me doubt myself. Still waiting on postal outcome.

Friskyandhustley · 03/03/2018 16:09

There's a message on the portal saying that because of the way the system stores details they can't help with lost passwords. The alternative is a six digit login that he would have received with the confirmation email, which he also can't find. I do think that if he'd submitted it properly there would be a trail of some sort. I'm so pissed off.
I really wish I'd done it myself, but DH is normally very good with stuff like this. To make it worse it's all tied up with massive tension between us about whether we make every effort (appeal) to get DS into the more academic school. That's probably going to be impossible/ irrelevant now, we'll be lucky if we can get him into our second choice. Or anywhere near or decent. I have no idea how this could impact.

OP posts:
Kidssendingmenuts · 03/03/2018 16:14

Are t u sure he hasn't used a different email perhaps? Seems strange that you wouldn't receive and email and you can't log in either. Once all the schools have been input all you do is review and submit and boom gone.
Men been men sometimes don't think and he may of used an old email or work email without thinking about it? X

Friskyandhustley · 03/03/2018 16:14

And thanks for all the helpful advice and support. Hope those of you also waiting get a good outcome. Can't remember the last time I actually waited for the postman!

Has he checked the recycle bin in case he deleted it?

What did he say about the address evidence
