DD (Y9) is part of the 'tribe' that watches Japanese cartoons, listens to Korean pop music and watches Chinese soap operas. She is not in the popular crowd or the academically gifted crowd (who at her school are admired) but has a small group of friends who are kind and uncomplicated.

Teenmum60 · 25/02/2018 20:58

MaisyPops Virtual high 5 from me too....echo what Stickerrocks has said !

mmzz I think girls have more tendency to be bitchy and mean and have a pack mentality ...I had a torrid time at work when I was promoted into a position in another branch where a few of the "girls" thought it should be their job. I didnt get invited out on any social events etc - even the Manager apologised for putting me in that situation ..fortunately I had just got engaged and some of the sales guys used to invite me to the pub at lunchtime. I;ve worked just with men for the last 25 years which I so appreciate. It is worse now because of social media and i too would go along with a ban ..

Sostenueto · 25/02/2018 20:59

There's no way I will be able to get dgd to school if weather bad and trains are cancelled because her school 37 miles away. Bad enough dd worrying about me getting her to work ( she lives 6 miles from me then 4 miles to where she works) unless someone can help me dig out car in snow at 6 am in the morning I won't be doing anything! And we live in the east and expected to get brunt of weather. ( I might be getting a lay in for a few days!)

snozzlemaid · 25/02/2018 21:02

Stickerrocks sorry to hear what your dd is going through. Teenage girls can be so mean.
Dd (like me) has never been one of the cool gang but thankfully she has a fab group of friends who have known each other since preschool.
Dd would love that t shirt also. We saw a notebook just the other day that said 'I hate people' which she loved.
She has inherited my introverted ways and can only be around people for so long. She craves being alone at the end of the school day.

mmzz · 25/02/2018 21:02

Ah... when you mention work, then yes, I know exactly what you mean about girls. I've worked with several women who are just truly despicable people, but there are no men that I'd turn down the job rather than have to breathe the same air as them again (apart from the one man who turned out to be a paedophile - there was something small and mean about him and I never liked him all the time I worked for him).

Sostenueto · 25/02/2018 21:05

Secondofhername yes forgot the Japanese cartoon books, dgd got loads of them! Seems your dd and my dgd a lot in common! Its the singing in Korean that gets on my nerves. ' listen nan-pai this song is lovely and the words are great!' Confused I don't speak Korean!

mmzz · 25/02/2018 21:05

@Sostenueto when is the snow due to hit you? Is it tonight?
The worry would be what if your DD and DGD do manage to get to school / work tomorrow but then can't get home because conditions have deteriorated?

Sostenueto · 25/02/2018 21:08

Yes supposed to hit tonight mmzz. Exactly! I'm disabled too mmzz. How anyone would think I could dig myself out drive on highly dangerous roads ( 4 miles to nearest main road as I live in a village) take dd to work, drive dgd to school as well as cart my pip with me along with sticks and repeat in evening is a bit if a big ask!

Teenmum60 · 25/02/2018 21:09

TheSecondOfHerName - Is your DD into Manga - my DD was into Manga for a long while but I think there was only one other girl who liked it when she joined her school in Yr8 (hence they were considered a little odd). Dd's year is split into tribes but I think most of the girls are really nice ...just the odd one who is unkind...

Sostenueto · 25/02/2018 21:09

Pup that should read.

HidingFromTheWorld · 25/02/2018 21:16

Thank you Bluebelle and Second, it’s comforting to have a place (albeit virtual) to come to ‘hear’ how others are finding this period of their own and their teenager’s life!

Second - really do empathise with anyone suffering chronic long term ill health. It really does give you a different outlook on life and, while it’s been lifelong for me and pretty much for DD, it doesn’t make it any easier.

I’m hopeful things will ease for DD when the stress of exams is over. She’s going to need that long break to recover.

Off to bed, hoping everyone has a good week. DD has a compulsory exam in the morning as part of the ‘National Reference Test’ the government has implemented. She’s furious at being one of 60 students at her school selected to participate as she’s missing an English revision session, but she’s resigned to it now! It’ll be either Maths or English, she’s no idea which.

Sostenueto · 25/02/2018 21:17

Maisypops stick around your advice will be invaluable ( as well as your company!)Wine

Sostenueto · 25/02/2018 21:19

Hidingfromtheworld hope all goes well for you and DC.Flowers

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/02/2018 21:24

She does like some manga.
Her favourite k-pop band is Astro.

Sostenueto · 25/02/2018 21:35

Am off now peeps take care to all and I will see what its like at 5 am in morning as far as weather goes. Safe journeys to all when beast arrives!Smile

AlexanderHamilton · 25/02/2018 22:43

Hi folks!

Back to school for dd tomorrow (Ds has INSET). Hamilton was AMAZING. In 30 years of theatre going (& I studied drama & music at uni too) I’ve never seen anything like it.

Dd has now got to catch up with the revision/practicevpapers she didn’t do whilst we we’re away.

notsomanky · 26/02/2018 06:50

DD wants to see Hamilton; it sounds fantastic.

DS1 has mocks all week, first one is Maths today.

mmzz · 26/02/2018 07:06

Good luck to her, @notsomanky.
I wonder if the reason to have mocks so late in the year is to encourage a bit of revision? Are the exams going to cover only a limited number of topics, I wonder? Maybe the stuff the that was taught in the early parts of year 10?

Parky04 · 26/02/2018 07:22

DS has just completed his Maths and English mocks. Usual reply when I ask how did they go "alright I suppose"! To be fair he is revising. We told him he had to revise in the dining room and not his bedroom after his very average mock results in November. A very stressful few months ahead!

Sostenueto · 26/02/2018 08:23

OK just slight flurry if sleet but by gum its cold! Sign up already at railway station, no trains tomorrow or Wednesday running and no replacement service I.e buses or taxis. So looks like dgd won't be going to school for a couple of days. Snow to hit tonight with temperatures -3 overnight but with wind factor -10. Am a bit worried that I may have to pick dgd up this afternoon if snow comes early, round trip if 74 miles blooming great!Sad

LooseAtTheSeams · 26/02/2018 09:14

Ooh, we’ve had a few snowflakes but don’t think it will settle. I’ve done my job as a mother by getting 2 teenage boys to wear coats - no hats or gloves, mind you!
Maisypops huge admiration for Y11 and all secondary school teachers here! I honestly don’t know how you do it. Teaching in FE has its challenges but nothing like School!

mmzz · 26/02/2018 09:50

My result was to put on long sleeve shirts and jumpers.

The snow is falling but not fast enough to lie here. It would be quite nice if it did lie for a day or two. After a week, I know it becomes a nuisance (grew up in a part of Scotland where snow is very common)

Sostenueto · 26/02/2018 10:10

Snow now arrived but as yet not settling. I hate winter and the cold. Sad

Stickerrocks · 26/02/2018 16:09

DD has survived, getting into the car crumpled & angry, but still in one piece. I had better go & ask her how her exams went earlier.
