Home from a meal out, feeling sleepy now

Great card teen one of my DT left the price on the front the card!!

DoNotBringLulu · 11/03/2018 18:57

Hope you all had a great Mother's Day.

Ds is revising Maths, just about to start an exam paper - he said he's just had a 'lovely break - researching Albania.' Since his trip to Iceland he has become interested in visiting many countries, making a list and researching...

I'm just off to try and catch up with the thread. Enjoy the very short time that's left now of the weekend everyone!

BlueBelle123 · 11/03/2018 19:00

I now know how to get DS to do more than 2 hours revision on a weekend...........have guests, we had people over today and he has done 5 hours revision rather than having to socialise Grin

Now I just have to arrange visitors for the next 9 weekends Wink

Stickerrocks · 11/03/2018 19:54

We had to leave the house so DD could practice for her Spanish speaking exam all alone. Hit traffic jams of families heading into the local tourist trap for Mothering Sunday lunch and then my car audible warning alarms started to go of at random whilst we detoured along country lanes to get home. Cut the trip short, so It's all my fault if she fails Spanish!

Hope you all had a great mothering Sunday! I had dgd this weekend as dd at work, but I managed to take dd a roast beef dinner I cooked her so she could eat it on her break! And I actually got 2 cups of tea made for me and the dinner things washed up too by dgd ( nearly had to go to a&e through shock). Eldest dd popped round with pressie ( a car vacuum, not sure if it was a hint or not) and youngest dd bought me an iron. ( wheres the Chocs and flowers?!)
All day revision done yesterday and timed maths paper this afternoon by dgd.

LooseAtTheSeams · 12/03/2018 08:09

Very nice day yesterday, even though I was working for some of it! I have some lovely flowers!
Poor DS1 - 2 maths mocks and a dental checkup today. Two more mocks tomorrow then back to normal revision/coursework treadmill!

JufusMum · 12/03/2018 09:18

Practical drama GCSE performance today, worth 20% of the final mark.
DD appears to have ceased all revision, I wish I drank wine.

LooseAtTheSeams · 12/03/2018 14:49

Maths mocks seem to have gone fine today. Now he just has to work on writing legibly for the computer exam tomorrow!

Stickerrocks · 12/03/2018 14:59

DD casually mentioned during her blood test this morning that she had a Spanish speaking mock today. Cue a Spanish phlebotomist popping her head around the curtain to test DD & correct her grammar. Good news on the health front - DD doesn't have the worst case scenario for her back 0roblems. Bad news - they don't know what it is instead.

Teenmum60 · 12/03/2018 15:51

Glad blood tests went sort of OK...hope they manage to find out what problem is.

Hope your Dd's drama went well Jufusmum

Loose - good luck with handwriting

I'm in one of those moods today and not sure why ....I did bump into DD's dad (she is with him tonight/tomorrow) and reminded him about revision - I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry because I think its the second time he has stated that revision is a marathon, not a sprint - which is precisely why I keep on reminding him that Dd should be revising often when at his house and not leaving it to a last-minute sprint. Oddly enough he commented that she has been engrossed in reading books cover to cover of late BUT they are fiction books NOT revision.

I think I need some bubble wrap to pop !

I can lend you a Michael Gove stress doll Teen.

@Teenmum60 is your DD's DF not strongly in favour of her doing well in the GCSEs, and all that that means in terms of revision etc?

Mytimenow · 12/03/2018 19:00

I'm after a bit of advice please, ds2 is in Y10 and just had timetable for summer GCSE sitting (WJEC) Wales. He's taking triple science and his last school report at end of December term said he was working on higher tier papers and his latest mark was 73%, with predicted grade of A.

His timetable is showing as higher paper for chemistry but foundation paper for biology and physics, I'm really confused as how he's gone from higher to foundation since January term and no contact off school to say why.

I have emailed school but waiting for reply, anyone else had this and should I ask them to change it back to higher paper?

Teenmum60 · 12/03/2018 19:07

@mmzz - he blows hot and cold dependent on his mood - not consistent. It's not easy for DD trying to revise from two homes hence why a consistent approach would help. Thanks stickerrocks I think I need a holiday ...

Oddsocks15 · 12/03/2018 19:30

Welcome mytimenow I’m afraid I don’t know anything about WJEC but I’m sure someone will come along with some advice

teen have Wine can you have a longer conversation with DF to explain how things are?

mmzz · 12/03/2018 19:38

@Mytimenow could it be a mistake?

Have you asked your DS2 what's happening to him in class? Maybe he's finding it hard to keep up or has had some really bad class tests recently?

mmzz · 12/03/2018 19:41

@Teenmum60 I'm not really sure if this would work or have implications that belong in the just-don't-go-there camp but there's only 9 weeks until the GCSEs start, so could your DD maybe not go to her dad's during that time? Or at least not be there when she's supposed to be revising?

If she's 16, (I guess there's a 50/50 chance of this), then is she allowed to make her own mind up about where and when she goes?

Sostenueto · 12/03/2018 20:19

Got English language paper 1 back. Not as good as paper 2 but still a great improvement 49/80. Think combined with paper 2 would give dgd a 6/7. That's plenty good enough. Am chuffed with that!Smile

Sostenueto · 12/03/2018 20:33

Stickerocks hope you get an answer soon about dd.Flowers love the stress dollGrin

Teenmum dd has to realise there's not long to go and definitely have a word with her dad. Tell him its really important to all of you that dd does as well as she can.

Stickerrocks · 12/03/2018 20:41

Jufus how did drama go? I am more than happy to take your wine rations on your behalf.

Mytime That does seem peculiar. Anyone in DD's school taking the foundation papers could only take combined science. Drop the exam officer an email, as they will probably be able to respond more quickly than someone classroom based.

LooseAtTheSeams · 12/03/2018 20:58

Sostenueto that's a good result for paper 1 - she should feel pleased!
Stickerrocks hope your dd gets some answers soon. Thanks

Teenmum60 · 12/03/2018 21:47

Sostenueto - well done to you DGD,

Things are never easy when you have a two home situation, the most important thing is not to create any waves in the run-up to exams. DD and I have talked about what ideally would be best, she is maturing in front of my eyes. DF still tends to react adversely to any suggestion from me (Alpha male) but given that DD is with me 4/5 times a week I think we can manage the revision period (I do feel like the pushy parent and I would rather it was more evenly balanced/he was more supportive - but DD does know that I nag because I care).

In the scheme of things we have done well - 13 years of managing shared care has not been easy. It will be nice to not have so much contact once DD goes off to Uni.
