@teenmum and @stickerrocks drama was bad! Two monologues, first went perfectly second a nightmare. Forgot the words and just froze. Only worth 10% each so drawing a line under it but DD was in meltdown.

Teenmum60 · 12/03/2018 22:02

JufusMum - Its 10% and that is the best way to look at it - drawing the line like you say...your poor DD.

@Sostenueto, that's good news about the English. I know you've been concerned. Mostly your DGDD has lacked confidence, so hopefully she will take heart from this result. It could be the breakthrough you've been looking for. What does your DGD need to get into the sixth form and study the A levels she wants?

Stickerrocks · 13/03/2018 07:36

Jufus It's so difficult, because she will feel that the entire session was a waste and ignore the marks she will have received. Focus on the positives and remind her that every single point she did pick up in one less she needs to get in the final exams.

Jufus the positive is that she's banked great marks for the monologue that went well and will get something for the other one just for attempting it. I do feel for her, though, and anyone who has done any kind of performing knows you can't always control these things. It is so easy to freeze and doesn't reflect ability at all.
DS developed a headache after exams yesterday so missed his drum rehearsal and lesson. Seems ok for today's mocks.
I'm fed up with the art department. They've moved the art exam later - I know that sounds like a good thing but it means it's a lot closer to the other exams! I've told DS to stick to the original deadline for exam prep and then focus on completing the coursework. He knows what he's going to do for the exam, so that's something.

JufusMum · 13/03/2018 09:05

Mock results come out today - in envelopes like the real thing, gave DD a wide berth this morning she was very spiky!

BlueBelle123 · 13/03/2018 09:18

Jufusmum hope your DD comes home in a better mood!!

DS looks like he's actually upped a gear in the revision stakes.......he has even been telling me exactly how long it is till the exams start and according to him he can keep his new revision schedule up till then Hmm............fingers crossed his enthusiasm can last that long!

user1469682920 · 13/03/2018 09:57

Glad there seem to be some breakthroughs. Its a shame I think these exams come too early for some. I had a breakthrough of sorts today in that DS said he was going to do things differently in sixth form and get organised and write up notes etc from day 1. I'll believe it when I see it but it seems he may have learnt something form the last two years even if its too late for this set. And he is really looking forward to sixth form which is nice.

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/03/2018 10:18

Good luck with that envelope Jufus!
I'm not really sure where we are with mock results after all the extra papers but I'm pretty sure the school will send one of its data sheets out before the end of term just to light small fires under the students!

BlueBelle123 · 13/03/2018 10:24

User920 you need to put a note in your diary to remind DS of his intentions on the first day of 6th form Wink

mmzz · 13/03/2018 10:35

There's been a change in DS too. His english lit finally seems to be coming together. I saw some of his unseen poetry answers that he emailed to the teacher and it was above my understanding. Also, revising has become part of his routine, so now he does it without a fight. in fact, he lets me know if I put any obstacles in his way!

Also, he has become quite assertive with me. Not rude, but typically, he now takes my opinion into consideration rather than doing what I suggest as I know best (which is how it used to be). I know its a sign of growing up, and I don't want to boss him around but...

JufusMum · 13/03/2018 10:57

Okay so DD is doing Higher Trilogy (Combined) Science, she got an 8,6,7, what does that equate to overall does anyone know?

mmzz · 13/03/2018 11:05

anyone seen this before? first impressions are that looks good esp for sciences. And its free.

BlueBelle123 · 13/03/2018 11:06

DS insists on doing his revision in the kitchen despite there being a desk in his room and the office that he could use Confused However, due to his new revision schedule it appears that he doesn't even have time to make a drink or get a snack I have to be summoned to get them........I am only letting this go as he is revising he knows it and to say he is milking it is putting it mildly........he has also become a lot more cheekier or as he says its only banter!!!! He's in for a shock once the exams are overGrin

user1469682920 · 13/03/2018 11:36

Yup, all my DC know they have a free slave during exam time ! mmzz that's for the link - its getting to the point now though that there is so much material/guidance out there, I think they just need to pick one and stick with it

mmzz · 13/03/2018 11:55

@user1469682920 Yes, that's what the school advised too.
TBH I'm using this year as a dress rehearsal for two year's time. So, some of these links are for me to remember what to use in 2020. Unfortunately, DS1 has been the chief recipient of most of my parenting mistakes. Ds2 appeared 18 months later, and got a mother who knew what to do = less stress, less trauma.

user1469682920 · 13/03/2018 11:58

That's true, my problem is after two hard working straight A* sisters I now have a very dyslexic and less motivated DS who needs totally different support and revision methods.

mmzz · 13/03/2018 12:13

I guess you registered in the last 18 months, after MN started to make new registrations a bit more difficult? I don't know if you would want to, but if you would like to personalise your user name then this is the like to change it:
www.mumsnet.com/member/registration-details

Both of my two have dysgraphia (a type of dyslexia). So, it can be challenging but its the same issues both times.

Sostenueto · 13/03/2018 12:21

Thanks to all for praiseFlowers
mmzz she needs a 5 for English language and 6 and 7 s for subjects plus I think 56 points to do 4 A level study.

Sostenueto · 13/03/2018 12:27

Dgd dies revision all over the house...her excuse us that as she's visual learner, doing pacific subjects in different rooms helps. Yes, well I don't buy that at all and frankly dd and myself sick of trying to find room on table to eat and room on sofas to sit!

Sostenueto · 13/03/2018 12:28

Especially as she has a workstation in her bedroom!

Sostenueto · 13/03/2018 12:30

Bluebells dgd the same! In fact if we didn't take her drinks and snacks she would not get her own at all!

Sostenueto · 13/03/2018 12:31

And that's normal, let alone revision time!

JufusMum · 13/03/2018 12:57

DD also has Geography notes stuck to all the picture frames in the lounge and the kitchen cupboards!
