Dd's school have also been pushing WE. The school find some placements or assist where they can from previous years. When DD was heavily into Product Design I wrote to several companies just fact finding to see whether they would consider WE and got fingers slapped because they prefer the DC to do this!

Dd's completed her CV (although not sure whether it needs updating), the plan was for her to do WE in the Primary School in the village- she still has teaching as a possible option.

She works on Saturday's dealing with customer queries/complaints online event supervising using social media business applications so I'm happy that she can add value to her Uni Application (if we get to that stage) but I think Uni's look for relevant experience dependent on degree course applied for.

JufusMum · 07/02/2018 14:00

DD's school don't do WE (due to Health & Safety wtf?). DD organised her own at the end of Year 10, had a fantastic week at our local Police Headquarters, learned loads, didn't want to come back (she wants to be a Police Officer). School tried to suggest I might get an unauthorised absence - really?! I just laughed in Headteachers face.

Teenmum60 · 07/02/2018 14:06

Jufus - Schools can take out insurance to cover H & S aspects - I had a letter from DD's school about this and I think there was a fee of £35 ish which would covered H & S assessments and things like a structured WE plan (so the DC didn't twiddle fingers for a week).

I didnt take the insurance out because the plan is for DD to go into a school and I'd like to think that H & S was not an issue !

AlexanderHamilton · 07/02/2018 14:06

DD’s school don’t do work experience either. They class their Summer Dance Show where they go off timetable for the last two weeks of the school year as WE.

DD won’t finish school until mid July.

Last year she did some volunteering at the local library

JufusMum · 07/02/2018 14:07

Teenmum....DD's school can hardly afford pens let alone insurance!!!
Failing, godawful shitshow...can't wait to get DD out....roll on 21st June!

Teenmum60 · 07/02/2018 14:16

Jufus - that was for the parents to pay...which I suppose isnt too bad given that the DC are getting WE.

Stickerrocks · 07/02/2018 17:05

DD'S school did WE at the end of year 10. She had a great time in Waterstones. Jufus Has she thought about signing up as a Special in a couple of years time? My 20 year old niece loves it.

TheDrsDocMartens · 07/02/2018 17:45

WE is year 10 here. More police are starting cadets which might be relevant to some.

Who is doing aqa separate sciences ? Can’t remember who was talking about mock grade boundaries? Dd2s are drifting in.

I meant the whole year group seems more stressed than previous years.

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 18:04

My dgd doing triple aqa sciences. No one will know what grade boundaries will be but dgds school always puts 50% as a 5/C 60% as a 6/B etc .my dgd 2 8s and a 7 in mocks I think.

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 18:06

Obviously more stressed doc cos all exams new system.

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 18:08

I'm stressed and I'm not even sitting the exams!Grin

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 18:13

Stomping fit just now from dgd about....that's right English!!!! '/oh I'm worried I might not get a good grade in today's assessment!' Me....' Will worry get you a good grade?' (You can tell I'm stressed cos I've about had it with her constant worrying)

Stickerrocks · 07/02/2018 19:39

Triple science here too. I don't know what the grade boundaries are. She sat the national practice papers in the summer and got 8s, then slumped to Biology 5, Chemistry 6 & Physics 8 in her mocks. However, the triple science sets had a hissy fit after their mocks because they sat the combined science papers and claimed their results dropped because the question style was different. I think it was more to do with a complete lack of biology & chemistry revision in October half term.

Stickerrocks · 07/02/2018 19:40

DD had to go to hospital today for some tests. Apparently she was doing online history revision as they took blood!

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 19:53

Omg! Is she alright stickerocks? Here's some CakeBrewFlowers

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 19:54

For your dd stickerocks!

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 19:57

Hope she will be fine stickerocks

HidingFromTheWorld · 07/02/2018 20:07

Poor you Sostenueto with your DGD! It's so hard knowing there's only so much we can do, the rest is down to them.

And Sticker - what an awesome DD multitasking during bloods! I admire her immensely for that.

Parents evening went well. None of the teachers are concerned. Computing result was based on one paper, when there's still one to go. Classics teacher will be running additional catch up sessions and both science teachers confirmed the disruptive students are being removed from the class and placed on foundation papers, leaving DD and others to focus on their higher papers.

And English teacher actually said 'wow' as she's so impressed that, through what was a really difficult and physically painful time, DD achieved an 8 and 7 for English Language. She's in full support and will do all she can to assist.

I'm feeling slightly less stressed. Marginally. 🤔

WhatHaveIFound · 07/02/2018 20:08

Hope your DD is ok stickerocks. I admire her drive to revise whilst blood is being taken!

Stickerrocks · 07/02/2018 20:10

Aww shucks, thanks. She'll be fine.

Stickerrocks · 07/02/2018 20:11

Well that feedback should help Hiding.

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 20:32

Well my dgd may struggle with English ( if you call a 5 struggling) but that 99% in geography and 89% in maths makes me more than happy!

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 20:34

Great results hiding especially as dd poorly!

HidingFromTheWorld · 07/02/2018 20:36

It was a very productive meeting all things considered and it's really bolstered DD's confidence. Her History teacher is also Head of year 12 and reassured her that they will do all they can to get her into sixth form.

Tomorrow is a stressful event in a different way as it's her hospital appointment for a condition that is proving extremely troublesome.

Roll on half term!

Sostenueto · 07/02/2018 21:00

Last year my dgd had melanoma and had to have 2 ops to remove mole and nodes in neck and biopsies on lymph glands. It was a very worrying time but finally got the all clear only to have to go through fact that she is gradually got very had eyesight in one eye and now has to wear contacts as the deficit between eyes us too much for glasses. She has just had brain scan and awaiting results which must be OK as I'm sure we would gave heard before now if it wasn't. I believe they did find some brain cells!Grin
