Football boots?

So apparently DS needs football boots as well as trainers for his secondary school PE kit. He's never had a pair before and I'm a bit clueless.

Anybody have any recommendations for where to buy? He has very wide feet and have just bought his school shoes in a size 5. Thanks Smile

My go-to shop for all sporty things is Decathlon

Go for ones suitable for soft ground as entry-level, laces not velcro.

Not AstroTurf ones (unless they specify on the kit list that it's for that surface)

Sports Direct is good as well. Size 5 should be easy to find as not too big (my experience is that the bigger sizes cost more).

Cheapest will be Umbro or similar, should be able to find some for about £20. If he thinks he has to have Nike or Adidas it'll be more like £40.

Or since he is clearly not a footballer and these are just to wear once a week, look on ebay - I've just sold some excellent condition ones for just £4.50 (no use to you OP as they were size 8 but you get the idea!)

Make sure they have studs tho (unless, yes, you are asked for astro boots - but in that case trainers would do) - a lot of the ones on the Auntiestella's link are just trainers really.

DC school says to buy PE studs (for footie, rugby, hockey...) but most kids can manage fine with their regular trainers, no need for a pair with studs on them. Maybe 1/3 of kids won't ever have studs for PE.

Thanks for your suggestions. I roped in my SIL who is actually interested in football and we've just been to Sports Direct.

We're along way from primary school and a pair of £9.99 daps!

I used to get them in car boot sales or charity shops for a couple of quid a pair on the grounds they got very little use before being grown out of and I wasn't raising the next David Beckham.

If you have to get them new this time, keep an eye out and invest in the next few sizes up. From memory they come up quite small.

Ah, too late.
I was going to say (and still will, in case it helps anyone else) it's probably best to wait until he knows his timetable. A lot of schools put them on the kit list, but then they happen not to have football (or hockey or rugby) on the first rotation of PE, and then they' grow a size before wearing them.

I would also suggest keeping an eye out on Freecycle / Freegle, Gum Tree, FB selling groups, car boot sales etc., as LOTS of parents will have bought them, the dc worn them about 6 times, and then they grow again so they have no use for them.

If he has wide feet you'll need to buy a size bigger. Find out if he needs boots with studs or the sort you use on AstroTurf.
