Will definitely be back as results day approaches! You'll be here with your spreadsheet won't you Bert, following up on all those predictions? Wink

If anyone didn't see Bertrand's thread a while back about predictions and actual grades achieved, do have a look at
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/2894184-Do-you-have-a-Year-11-doing-GCSE-this-summer
and answer if you want to.

I've just got home from work and collapsed with a cup of tea, so I haven't seen ds yet, but he told me he was going to concentrate on history today which is on Wednesday.

Everybody ready for round 4 and the last round (in most cases)?

We are definitely laid back, DS has revised a bit this weekend but has also gone out with friends. 6 exams left, English Lang, Maths, C2 and C3 finishing with P2 and P3.

Roll on Friday night when I may burst into historical laughter and produce a fire in the back garden out of all DS's books. Just joking, planning to go out and celebrate both the GCSEs and dd's music exams being completed.

Fleurdelise · 11/06/2017 18:13

*hysterical not historical (autocorrect) but that works too.

LittleHo · 11/06/2017 19:16

Sadly dd is only just starting her A Levels so the torture continues beyond the end of this week.

Sprog19 · 11/06/2017 19:17

6 exams next week, then history of surgery the following Tues, then done! DS is being very noble and not celebrating until his GF finishes the following Friday. Not so his parents! 🍾

pointythings · 11/06/2017 19:34

We've got 6 exams next week, then 2 the last week - on Monday and Friday, bloody typical...

minesawine · 11/06/2017 19:44

Thanks Noble. DS is looking through the lists now. Really helpful.

Final week. Yay. 5 exams. It has been hell. Nobody prepared me for how tough this was going to be for my DS (and more importantly ME!!!). I will not be doing this for his A'Levels. Please tell me it gets easier.

errorofjudgement · 11/06/2017 19:50

Final week here too. Then DD off to a pool party and sleepover to celebrate the end of exams.

Just been on Bertrand's thread and completed the details for DD. Looking forward to seeing how the predictions match up to the results.

poisonedbypen · 11/06/2017 19:51

Still two weeks to go for us (23rd for GCSEs, 26th for A levels). It's a long haul. 5 this week, 3 next.

Laniakea · 11/06/2017 19:59

Final week here, 7 exams - all the heavy ones. This year has not been fun.

Dd's had a pretty shit weekend tbh - she's managed some work today but not yesterday. In the end I banned a friend from coming over & took her phone (think up all night on group calls). As she keeps reminding me they are her exams not mine, but, as I remind her, she still has no plan B. She will be gutted if she doesn't get A*s for physics & chemistry ... if only that motivated her to pull her finger out this weekend. She's having a little rest now poor dear

Redsrule · 11/06/2017 21:24

For last minute revision for tomorrow's AQA exam: make sure they are confident about the different conventions of form for non fiction writing; ensure they can identify different types of nouns (abstract etc) and verbs (modal etc); that they understand that Q2 is about summarising differences only so don't drift into language analysis; focus on the key words in Q4 and answer just that. It will be fine! I hope!?!?

castleontheground · 11/06/2017 21:30

Aqa English tomorrow too. Does help that Mr Bruff and Mr Salles guides swap with what to say for question 3&4

castleontheground · 11/06/2017 21:32

Sorry about the sarcasm in my last post - does that get me an extra mark or is that satire?

Merrylegs · 11/06/2017 21:51

We're still going to the 22nd here. Boring! Unfortunately the fact that the prom is the next day and still no dress (!) seems to be the focus here at the moment. Give me strength.

I shall check back in here on results day for sure. Really concerned about maths tbh and Dd has no back up plan if she fails, so it will be a nail-biting wait.

Good luck all - hang in there!

settledandsmug · 11/06/2017 22:50

Five exams this week, then further maths on 19th and product design on 26th - hate having such a late exam, although it will give DS time to learn the syllabus - teacher has been absent for most of year.

BertrandRussell · 11/06/2017 23:11

I completely forgot I'd started that thread! It was a good idea though- I hope it revives......

Sprog19 · 12/06/2017 05:58

Redsrule - different types of nouns and verbs? Haven't seen that mentioned anywhere on mark schemes, sample papers etc?

RaskolnikovsGarret · 12/06/2017 05:58

Six left this week, one to go next week. It's been a long slog.

I am in awe of how hard DD has worked, consistently, without a break. I will be pleased with whatever she gets. She may not get the top marks she expected, given the uncertainty with maths and English, and the careless mistakes she says she has made, but hopefully they will be good enough for her.

I do feel bad that, given the long hours we work, I haven't been able to provide the level of support that some other parents seem to have done. But she has survived so far.

Best of luck to all DCs for the remaining exams.

Redsrule · 12/06/2017 06:05

Top band marking , sophisticated use of subject terminology. I teach some very able pupils. If you look at the exemplar scripts they refer to dynamic verbs etc.

Sprog19 · 12/06/2017 06:26

Oo-er! Don't think DS has a clue about terms for different types of nouns/verbs, though I did teach him 'hyperbole' and 'semantic field' yesterday. Oh well, too late now. Not sure that plunging into grammatical discussion over breakfast will go down too well. I nearly had a heart attack yesterday when he gave me a practice qu 5 to mark which spelt 'seem' as 'seam' 😩. He is predicted a 7!

Decorhate · 12/06/2017 06:30

Ds has 9 papers this week poor thing. Is remarkably blasé though. I was always a cramming the night before sort of student!

NewDayDawning · 12/06/2017 06:48

My DS has 7 more days of exams....he is quite exhausted, finding it very hard to keep the momentum going. 😩

Quadratilla · 12/06/2017 07:34

Only five papers here this week - last week was Dd's heaviest. She has her first exam free day on Thursday too! The end is in sight Grin

LIZS · 12/06/2017 07:44

Us too newday. Finish 22nd here but majority finish this week and plan to celebrate after exam on Friday so talk is already turning to prom and parties. Not sure how productive this weekend has been revision-wise, she appears to have books and ipad open but seems jaded by it now so who knows. Her dbro is back from uni so might give history revision a boost.

tapdancingmum · 12/06/2017 07:53

Seven left to go. 6 this week with the last one next Tuesday. On the whole she thinks most have gone OK but we are holding our horses until August Grin
