That horrendous maths exam has come back to haunt us here, so much so DD has almost changed her mind over one of her options. Her new Sixth Form required A grades in order to do a subject at A level. However, you need a minimum of a 7 in Maths to do a science subject. As many others, DD struggled with the maths paper but she's just admitted she messed things up she knew. So she now talking about Eng Lit. She'd much prefer to do biology which would be better for her second career choice but Eng Lit would be okay for both career choices, so maybe it won't be the end of the world.

The holidays are going well here though, we've had a holiday and a short break. DD has seen a fair amount of friends, not just her usual main set of friends so that's food and we've had what seems like endless trips to get stuff as she'll be moving away for Sixth Form. DD is about to go away again, and has her results and birthday coming up, so it's going really quick.

Laniakea · 17/08/2017 12:01

had a dry run for next week (anxiety starting here!) - dd got a really high A in her AS level so she'll be doing the A2 creative writing as an extra next year :)

booellesmum · 17/08/2017 14:17

Ifonly4 -
That's crazy asking for a 7 in maths.
DD is at a superselective grammar. They need 7 to do Maths A-level but only 5 in Maths if taking other subjects.
I think your school is asking a lot and may rethink once results are out?

LIZS · 17/08/2017 20:25

Are Additional Maths results out already? Another in dd's year whose elder sibling was collecting A levels today seems to have their result Confused

Witchend · 17/08/2017 23:39

According to my dd, Additional Maths is out with the A-levels, but her school won't send them until the rest of the GCSEs. I'm sure when I did it, they came out with the GCSEs.

However the grade boundaries are way up from what she says. From around (can't remember the exact numbers) 61% for an A, 53% for a B last year, it's 74% for an A, 63% for a B this year. So from hoping for an A, but confident of a B she's now on hoping she has a B and hasn't dropped further. Sad

errorofjudgement · 20/08/2017 09:18

It's getting awfully close.
We have friends whose DC had their A2 and AS results this week, with mixed results, it's definitely added to the pressure DD is feeling.
Roll on Thursday!

bengalcat · 21/08/2017 15:41

Yes add maths is out - our school has released

keepondreaming · 21/08/2017 15:57

T -3 days...

booellesmum · 22/08/2017 13:48

T- 2 days

bengalcat · 22/08/2017 15:27

Getting excited now - don't know why as they're not my results - will be happy with whatever kid has as I know she did her best

Teddygirlonce · 23/08/2017 08:08

DS has gone into lock-down about the results now - won't discuss how he thinks he did at all.

However apparently he will be up at the crack of dawn tomorrow scrutinising the grade boundaries.

He is planning on meeting some of his friends on the bus and going in with them. He doesn't want us there. He will be knocking on the school door at 8.55am, knowing him.

Quadratilla · 23/08/2017 14:23

Grade boundaries are out. DD has seen the Edexcel Maths ones on The Student Room - presumably leaked by a teacher/ teacher's child who has access to them today. Not sure it's entirely healthy to look though Hmm

JufusMum · 23/08/2017 14:28

Its only Edexcel that are leaked. OCR and AQA remain tight lipped.

JufusMum · 23/08/2017 14:29

oh, and Edexcel Maths Higher grade boundaries are lower than Kim Kardashian's standards!

Quadratilla · 23/08/2017 14:31

JufusMum I should jolly hope so. I can't bear it when things are leaked. I worded it badly, I meant to imply that it was just the Edexcel Maths ones leaked. Blush

ifonly4 · 23/08/2017 14:52

DD says The Student Room have removed the leaked Edexcel grades. However, a friend made a note of them.

4 - 41
5 - 68
6 - 96
7 - 124
8 - 57
9 - 190

Obviously out of 240.

TheFrendo · 23/08/2017 15:05

Those are really low.

ifonly4 · 23/08/2017 15:06

Sorry, that 157 for a grade 8.

JumpingJoey · 23/08/2017 15:10

ifonly4 I prefer the 57 for an 8 😁

Woody67 · 23/08/2017 15:30

I wonder how that compares to the mocks.

Woody67 · 23/08/2017 15:33

DS has been talking about alternative A level to do if he doesn't get the required grade. Self preservation maybe. He got lower than expected in his mock and I think he's a bit worried about it.

ifonly4 · 23/08/2017 15:49

Woody, same here. DD has a back up plan if she doesn't get the required maths grade. Hopefully she won't have to change options, but as she's concerned about maths, I'm glad she's given herself time to consider what she'd want to do instead, rather than have a rushed decision this week.

Laniakea · 23/08/2017 16:30

dd got 132 (or something like that) in her mocks - they graded that as a 6. She did AQA not edexcel though.

She's pretty pissed off that out of 11 subjects it all comes down to her maths grade :(

Quadratilla · 23/08/2017 23:11

Good luck everyone. I hope all our DC get what they need tomorrow.

pasanda · 24/08/2017 08:20

Good luck everyone!

40 minutes to go for us!!!
