Ds wants to apply for jobs but has been slightly hampered by the fact that we've lost his NI number and some applications ask for it. He's sent off the form to ask for it again.

DDs are not bored here yet. Had first week chilling then we were away for two. This week has been gearing up to prom night with much excitement. Sounds like a weekend of partying coming up.

NCS for one for the following three weeks.

I think the time is flying!!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/07/2017 08:08

I do seem to be constantly handing out cash though!! That needs to stop once this prom is over

PaddlingInTheShallows · 13/07/2017 13:34

Frequently handing out cash here too! I was hoping DD could get a summer job, but she/we are away for 4 weeks in late July/early August, so no point really.

Any suggestions for jobs on her return? She's really not into fashion, so wouldn't really suit high street retail. She's also pretty clumsy and not very alert to things so I think waitressing is out too!

She's also scared of dogs (aside from our soft-as-you-like pooch) so dog walking is a no-no as well. I'd welcome any thoughts Smile.

Otherwise the summer will continue to be comprised of chatting to friends, forays into town, generalised mooching and youtube.

errorofjudgement · 13/07/2017 14:12

Baby sitting
Paper round
Stores like Wilkinson, B&Q, book shop ( my dream job)
Volunteer in charity shop or old people's home to get experience,
Cleaning the house for mum - DD has got much tidier since I offered to pay her to clean the house, she nags us now to put stuff away!

cantkeepawayforever · 13/07/2017 14:17

Had a couple of quiet weeks here after a manic week to ten days of concerts and socialising post final exams.

Off on a trip with him tomorrow, just the two of us, relevant to A-levels.

Then it all picks up at the end of next week - music tour and then course, family holiday, possible internship, results, camping with friends, then back ready for the start of term...

DS is away for 6 weeks so I have his log on details to get results.

Was checking it today to make sure I can get in.... and his level 3 BTEC Science result is up.

DS*

I may have cried, hes severely dyslexic and has had to work sooooo hard all the way through school.

I lost my mum a few months ago and wish she was around to tell, she would be so proud of him.

Eve · 25/07/2017 10:46

.. 2 more to go though and they need to be an A and a B to make his offers!

ifonly4 · 27/07/2017 09:52

We've been away here, which I think we all needed after exams and other things going on. DD is moving away for Sixth Form, so travelled to buy compulsory items from school shop yesterday. We're popping into town today as she needs loads of things like shoe cleaning kit, laundry bag, coat hangers, new quilt covers, as well as all the usual school stuff. DD is away twice before she goes back and has loads of plans with friends the last week, so need to starting sorting things out to save last minute panics.

LittleHo · 27/07/2017 10:22

ds has a job over the summer. I'm glad as he was starting to get bored after study leave.

minesawine · 30/07/2017 19:14

Hi everyone. I hope you are enjoying your summer hols so far. Thank God for NCS. My DS was so bored before he went off and is having a fantastic time. I am so glad we did it. Nothing worse than a sulky, bored teenager.

Anyway, my question is - will you go with your DC to collect their GCSE results? I really want to go with him, but he has said no way. I am worried about his maths result because he wants to do it for A'Level, but who knows what his result will be. I said I will sit in the car, quietly trembling and chewing on my nails, but he is not keen for that either. He said nobody takes their parents. Is that true?

NeverEverEver · 30/07/2017 20:13

DD will get results emailed to her at 8.00am I think and the plan is that I'll go in to school with her if there's anything unexpected...

errorofjudgement · 31/07/2017 01:55

Interesting question. I didn't go in to school with either of my older 2, but sat in the car. I'm not sure what will happen with DD. I suspect if she sees friends going in, then she will abandon me, otherwise, I'm expecting she will want me to go in with her.

LIZS · 31/07/2017 07:09

Dd will go to collect her envelope at 10am while we loiter outside.

Icouldbeknitting · 31/07/2017 08:01

Last year I sat in the car (a bus is a rare and special thing) and fretted because he was gone forever.

Clavinova · 31/07/2017 08:46

How do Year 10 pupils find out their results? DS1 sat his Maths IGCSE this year - would he be expected to go in to school with Year 11 on results day? We forgot to ask and apparently it's 'uncool' to ask friends now.

Danglingmod · 31/07/2017 10:16

I think there's usually either a slot for other year groups which is after the year 11s, or else you wait until September. I would check school website or ring and ask.

I realised we've not actually been told what time ds can collect year 11 results!

Danglingmod · 31/07/2017 10:18

Oh, and we will go with him. Independent school - kids come from up to 50 miles...there will be other parents there!

TeenAndTween · 31/07/2017 11:41

2 years ago DD walked to school to get her results.
I had to give her very strict instructions what to say on the phone as she isn't very good at giving a clear picture.

She had to say 'I passed everything' or 'I passed everything except XYZ' not something unhelpful/misleading like 'I'm really pleased' (which could have meant unexpected B for Drama whilst failing Eng Lang & Science).

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2017 11:45

Ds wants us to it in the car while he goes in. He hasn't decided whether to open the envelope at once or bring it back to the car. Either way, it's straight on to posh brunch at his favourite place. He can make any necessary begging calls to the Head of 6th from there.......

errorofjudgement · 31/07/2017 12:16

I remember that a couple of DS friends didn't quite get the grades needed for their A level choices. They were given an appointment to come back later/next day to discuss their options going forward with head of 6th form.

Clavinova · 31/07/2017 17:52

Thank you Danglingmod and tiggytape - I'm not sure I will be able to wait until September, even if it is only one result.

pointythings · 31/07/2017 18:40

DD wants all of us in there with her and has said she may ask me to open her envelope. School if 5 mins walk away.

She hasn't been bored, she's been vegetating and fighting off a horrific eczema flareup. We're off to Devon for a fortnight on Saturday, really looking forward to it.
