No word from DS about Chemistry. He and his GF have gone to revise history at Cafe Nero - an really hoping that this is as good an idea as he thinks.

teddygirlonce · 14/06/2017 13:10

DS has a full day of exams today so won't know about either Chemistry or History until 5pm(ish) today. 8/11 subjects down and three to go...

Tomorrow he (along with many in his year group) is in 'quarantine' for some of the morning and over lunchtime because of RE/Computer Science clash.

pointythings · 14/06/2017 13:17

DD has history this afternoon. Then it's just finishing up the sciences with Physics the last one on the 23rd

Cafeconleche · 14/06/2017 13:31

AQA C2 (higher) was 'fine'. DS has stayed on at school for 2-hour history revison class from 11.15. History is one of his favourite subjects and revison has not been a chore at all for him, so really hope it goes well as he has invested so much in it.

In the mean time I've been watching with horror the news of the tragic fire in West London, an area I know very well, and have spoken to friends (who are thankfully safe), but who were witness to the utter horror of it all. It puts this GCSE madness into perspective when so many will have lost everything, including their lives Sad

PeachPearPotato · 14/06/2017 13:32

I've only just seen this thread and we are about to finish -

HibiscusIsland · 14/06/2017 13:36

When do the exams finish? Dd2 in Year 5 has a day at dd1's high school next week, which I assume wouldn't be happening if there were A levels and GCSEs going on.

NewDayDawning · 14/06/2017 13:37

DS who always sees the glass as half empty, texted that chemistry was 'okay'
I would interpret that as it went really well, chemistry was the one he was worried about so a huge relief he didn't feel it went badly.

NewDayDawning · 14/06/2017 13:39

@HibiscusIsland lots are finishing this Friday, my DS is still writing Monday & Tuesday next week and then he's finished. He is one if the last to finish at his school.

HibiscusIsland · 14/06/2017 13:48

Thanks NewDay. She is going on Wednesday so that makes sense. No chance they'd want a bunch of primary kids from various schools there with exams on.

Madhairday · 14/06/2017 14:12

Dd finishes next Friday. All the edexcel science paper 3 exams are next week. She's moaning that all her friends finish this week and she has another week to go.

simbobs · 14/06/2017 14:17

At our High School the Y6 kids were visiting today despite exams going on.

Quadratilla · 14/06/2017 14:38

Tis I suspect Chemistry (IGCSE EdExcel) was just fine - it's her best subject. Bad start this morning because she forgot her pencil case so we made a detour to Asda. This afternoon's history has been taught is a bizarre way meaning she has to do the Vietnam question which was causing a bit of stress.

ifonly4 · 14/06/2017 14:42

Hibiscuslsland - DD has exams next week, one on Wednesday, they'll just keep them away from exam halls.

DD sat OCR 21st Century Chemistry P2 this morning. She's originally thought it hadn't gone well, but on adding up roughly how many marks she thinks she got is a bit happier. I'm sensing her level of confidence has gone down this week, I guess it's because she's tired and finding it harder to focus.

AMilkyBrew · 14/06/2017 14:47

HibiscusIsland - I suspect my DD is one of the last to finish GCSEs. Her last exam is Product Design on the 26th.

Madhairday · 14/06/2017 14:52

C2 was 'easy' apparently. Too over confident?

Mumteadumpty · 14/06/2017 15:18

C2 'fine' here too. History OCR 'not sure'

LittleHo · 14/06/2017 15:34

Chemistry AQA - great.

History OCR - great.

Some people got confused by the last History source apparently. ds got so hot in exam hall that it has caused trench foot. At least he has learnt something in history. Grin

Laniakea · 14/06/2017 15:44

History - went well, better than mocks means hopefully good news
Chemistry (AQA) - 'lit' .... really good, C3 was best paper she's had out of everything so far.

Can't believe she's almost done!

CrazedZombie · 14/06/2017 15:54

OCR Chemistry C4 C5 C6 was apparently great.
4 more to go...

Gnome134 · 14/06/2017 15:55

Ds verdict on AQA higher chemistry C2 was easy, C3 harder, but the 6 mark question was the exactly the same as the 2014 past paper he did at the weekend!
Agree with all of you regarding the maths succeeding in putting able kids off maths.
Physics on Friday, then Graphics next Tues. Then breathe a sign of relief!

keepondreaming · 14/06/2017 15:57

"And completely screwed over the ones who just needed a basic grade to get through to the next bit of their lives."

⬆️⬆️ @BertrandRussel sums it up perfectly. l

Iamnotminterested · 14/06/2017 16:05

AQA c2 and 3 "Hard".
AQA history (Germany) "Amazing", but is one of her strongest subjects.

BertrandRussell · 14/06/2017 16:06

Ds liked the AQA history as well- but it is also his strongest subject.

LIZS · 14/06/2017 16:48

Chemistry igcse edexcel - last q was "mean"
History gcse edexcel - 8 marker on Nuremberg Laws 1935 was found tricky.

Cafeconleche · 14/06/2017 16:56

AQA History (Germany) 'a blessing'. DS so happy about it (tho as with some other DCs it's his favourite subject). P2 Friday and one more History paper next week - and then that's it! Where has the time gone?? It only seems like yesterday I was nagging the hell out of DS reminding him he only had 12 weeks until the start of the GCSEs. Time obviously flies when you're having fun HmmSmile
