Bert - my worry is he doesn't seem to have retained any of it! Might have well started at Easter.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 12/06/2017 21:46

Bertrand, DD has been revising solidly since Christmas, but still (according to her) has messed up a fair few. Her method works for her peace of mind, but I'm sure many who worked far less will do better on the day. Hard work isn't everything - intelligence, question topics, nerves and simple luck all play a part as you will of course know as well. So I'm sure you have zero need to panic!

CrazedZombie · 12/06/2017 21:51

Ds started after Easter too. I think he accepts that he won't get away with this for A-levels. Hopefully he'll remember saying this but who knows?

Laniakea · 12/06/2017 21:52

Well the pixl paper went well for 5 minutes ... maths is now in the recycling bin.

What a nightmare for the kids LittleHo :/

Dd said she got an hour into the paper this morning & just couldn't be bothered to write anymore - she was bored stupid & her hand hurt - so she had a 10 minute lie down on her desk then finished the paper! She's pretty close to her limit - irritable with the invigilators too. There's one really annoying one (the one who told her the exam boards didn't like them to use extra paper!), they are sooooo slow & she's in first & out last because she's at the top of the alphabet & all her friends are at the other end, and it is always too hot or too cold etc etc etc

Dh is doing his tax return - I want him to go & buy me wine.

AtiaoftheJulii · 12/06/2017 21:56

Ds has started a list of his predictions as he finishes each subject Grin (six down, six to go, yay) and thinks I should reward him for any that he gets right!

He did a bit of work after February half term, and then from Easter onwards, but not exactly solidly.

Ha! That's funny :D

I've been asking dd how they went compared to her mocks ... she pretty much always answers with 'it was fine, well I haven't failed have I?' Which goes with 'what's your problem? I've done more work than some people!' Confused

cantkeepawayforever · 12/06/2017 22:14

Atia, we have been doing that too - more of a range, but his 'best guess' of what he will get. It will be interesting to see whether any of his ideas are accurate.

DS has put in the hours, but his efficiency is perhaps a different matter - he hasn't really found 'his way' to revise.

GiraffeorOcelot · 12/06/2017 22:30

We're keeping strictly away from predictions. I think it's too dangerous a game, DS's results can vary massively in each subject so we're just going on whatever happens In August happens. For us trying to guess it is impossible based on his previous performances.

innkeeper Not ideal but there are a series of videos on YouTube which cover C2, C3 etc in about 30-45 mins each. They are slightly basic but pretty good for the time.

Last maths tommorw good luck to all the dc

choccyp1g · 13/06/2017 07:30

DS informed me last night that he used alliteration: "strong and stable" in his English.

I refrained from pointing out that it is a worn-out cliche

errorofjudgement · 13/06/2017 07:42

Echoing good luck to all today.

Good luck to everyone today.

DS has certainly put in more time/effort that in previous exams so hoping that his results reflect this. Not going down the prediction route here but I think he should have tipped the 'predicted' balance to more As than Bs (he is certainly capable but has just not worked hard at all until just before Year 11 mocks and since).

However, he is visibly flagging now (and still only 5/11 subjects completed) and I can sense that it's going to be hard work to keep him motivated and on track until the end (Friday).

His school does nothing to mark the end of Year 11 so they are just left in limbo until Results Day. All a bit of an ending with a 'fizzle' rather than a 'bang'. The expectation is that they will nearly all stay on into the Sixth Form if they get good enough grades (8 including 4 As minimum, 2 Bs and Maths and English at Grades 9-6) but what happens if they don't - no proper closure or 'goodbyes'!

Gnome134 · 13/06/2017 08:09

Ds (and I) so looking forward to maths being over. He said he'll probably scream when they come out of the exam hall!

Scabetty · 13/06/2017 08:11

Gnome, dd feels same. Hoping this paper will be better than the last for her.

unfortunateevents · 13/06/2017 08:38

Both DS and I will be screaming at the end of maths today! Only 3 exams left after this, beginning to seriously flag now. Cannot wait until Friday, I will be attaching myself to a bottle of prosecco at 3.30 p.m.!

pasanda · 13/06/2017 09:22

That sounds like a good plan unfortunate! Unfortunately for me, ds is doing OCR triple science so doesn't finish until next Wednesday so my prosecco consumption will have to wait a bit longer.

Good luck to all today. SOOOOO pleased the dreaded maths will be over (please God let DS pass so he doesn't have to retake Shock)

Madhairday · 13/06/2017 09:32

Yes! Also can't wait for maths to be over with. Hope it goes OK. Dd seemed fairly chirpy about it this morning. Not much gets her down, but I can see she is at the end of it, flagging daily now. Wish she was finishing this week like most of her friends but all paper 3 science next week. I'll get her to check out that video, thanks giraffe.

Fleurdelise · 13/06/2017 10:03

Good luck all today, it should all be finished in app 25 min.

4 exams left after this and definitely wine o'clock Friday afternoon for us.

ifonly4 · 13/06/2017 10:06

DD didn't revise for her mocks (in fact she's revised very little in the past) and only started revising a week before GCSEs despite nagging. She's revised constantly since. The one subject she thinks she'll drop on is biology as she made some silly mistakes on first paper and with six important subjects the week of second paper biology which wasn't really prepared for it.

Eve · 13/06/2017 10:10

good luck all - DS has slept a solid 12 hours a night plus daytime naps since he finished on Friday.

His skin was in a terrible condition with breakouts for last month but even that is beginning to look better, I really think we underestimate the stress on them.

Fleurdelise · 13/06/2017 10:44

Just heard from DS he said maths was hard but he managed to finish it, hopefully that is a positive and not many mistakes. That was Edexcel Higher.
