Hi all. Keep in touch with uni offers, new jobs, gap years, exams, etc. We can get through his Grin

Dd just repeated her Maths c3 module today. This is the one she panicked in last year and did the same today. She was getting 95+ in past papers so I don't understand why she panicked.Anyway she has said it was a really hard paper. Now I'm back on the emotional rollercoaster Shock.

ono40 · 24/05/2017 11:59

I agree teta, me too - highs and lows here every day. Has she tried Rescue Remedy? I put this into DS's water bottle and he takes this into the exam so if he has a 'moment' (like last year when he crossed out his whole answer by mistake) then he can take a drink and count to 10.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/05/2017 13:12

Teta - C3? Confused I've got that down for June 20th.Think C1/2 are the ones they do at AS? If it was a tough paper the grade boundaries will be low - I know its what people always say but for maths it's definitely true according to my DD.

user1484040234 · 24/05/2017 13:39

I think it was C2 today?

user1484040234 · 24/05/2017 13:43

is anyone DC doing the new spec Physics (AQA) and Chemistry (OCR) and finding that the linear specimen papers are much harder than the old A2 papers? My DS and his friends haven't done well on recent mocks which used these papers. It's very worrying with exams starting after half term.

teta · 24/05/2017 14:00

Sorry, yes it was C2 Maths.I've been reading the Student room opinions on c2 and the split of hard/easy opinions was 50/50.So I guess she just panicked.I've told her to go for lunch with her friends instead of coming home upset.I'm sure she will have improved her mark from last year, which was the main purpose for redoing it.

ono40 · 24/05/2017 14:41

User, the specimen papers for all linear subjects are much harder than the past A2 papers. The lack of past papers is also making revision and knowledge application more difficult. At least they are all in the same boat and we just have to hope the grade boundaries are lower.

HSMMaCM · 24/05/2017 14:43

I think the linear papers are supposed to be harder, because they're examining 2 years work instead of 1 aren't they?

OP posts:
aginghippy · 24/05/2017 15:13

Yes, they are supposed to be harder. That was part of the rationale for changing to a linear system.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/05/2017 18:00

Yes, DD is doing physics, I think she said a lot of the class didn't do too well in the mocks, and she had a particular gripe about the part of one paper which examines 'practical' aspects. OTOH she prefers the way they do the practical endorsement now.

bebumba · 25/05/2017 19:22

Ds started study leave today by studying 😀. Hope the revision is going well for everybody.

bigTillyMint · 25/05/2017 21:46

DD's last day tomorrow - they are going in old uniforms for a party in fav teachers lesson, then to the park. I think drink will be involved!
They also have leavers party and stuff at the end of June though.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/05/2017 23:25

DD's last day tomorrow too, with their do (together with the corresponding boys' school) in the evening.

HSMMaCM · 25/05/2017 23:29

Leavers day tomorrow. They have a bouncy castle.

Horsemad · 25/05/2017 23:30

DS at 6th form party tonight and tomorrow is last day. That's come round quickly!!

School lay on a buffet breakfast and they have a Staff vs Students Rounders Match followed by a BBQ.

bigTillyMint · 26/05/2017 06:31

Hope all the last days/dinners, etc went/go well.

DD was a bit down yesterday with 2 practice English essays - she got 25/30 for both (which I worked out to be 83% which I thought was pretty bloody good) but she said her teacher said 27 was an A, 29 was an A* and she really wants to try for an A. Does anyone know if he is setting the grades a bit high?

ono40 · 26/05/2017 09:54

HSM - let's hope they have risk-assessed that bouncy castle!!

BTM, DS is doing English (AQA where marks are out of 25) and has been told that he would need 22/25 for an A which is 88%. I don't think the teachers are setting the grades a bit high, I think they are just passing on what they've been told at training days run by the exam boards. With the combination of learning two years' worth of material, harder exams and higher grade boundaries, it is all a bit worrying. And the government wonders why our young people have mental health problems??

HSMMaCM · 26/05/2017 11:40

Drama mock this morning, bouncy castle this afternoon (where someone will almost certainly injure their writing arm before the exams I should think). Then leavers 'gathering' at unspecified place.

OP posts:
bebumba · 26/05/2017 13:57

A bouncy castle and teenagers, what could possibly go wrong?!

bigTillyMint · 26/05/2017 15:30

Jeez, 88% for an A. WTAF.

Any alcohol involved Bebumba?!

Lineyy · 26/05/2017 17:14

Hello, so please to find you all! Smile

No leaving do for DS at his sixth-form college, but he is going to a mini-festival thing tomorrow with a friend.

He is re-taking AS maths to try to improve his marks, as last year was a bit of a clock-up, and he's doing A level maths, physics and biology. He is hoping to get into Warwick.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 26/05/2017 17:18

DD had a really great last day today (can't believe I'm writing that!) with a lovely leavers assembly full of funny anecdotes, and a few other little quirky things through the day like adding their hand print to the wall in the art room and with a friend carving their names onto the walls outside

It's been such a great school for her - lovely teachers, great experiences, and so many good friends.

But she hasn't really left just yet has she?!

Lineyy · 26/05/2017 18:58

Just those pesky exams, juggling ...

Horsemad · 26/05/2017 19:29

DS home with his Year Book. Aaaah, my 'baby' looked so young in Year 7!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 26/05/2017 22:20

Ah yes Lineyy, just those!
