Hi all. Keep in touch with uni offers, new jobs, gap years, exams, etc. We can get through his Grin

DD also had a lovely last day - partying in the park after fun amd games at school - just the small matter of the exams now!

ErrolTheDragon · 27/05/2017 14:12

DD had a lovely last day too. The leavers' assembly included a song written by one of the girls so apparently everyone was in tears 'it was a mess'GrinThen a nice afternoon with her pals, followed by getting dressed up (thanks to friend's mum for beautifully taming DD's unruly mane!Smile) and on to the ball followed by sleepover.

They decided to share a bottle of wine beforehand, which DD bought to see if she could. The shopkeeper eventually accepted that yes, it really was her genuine provisional driving license proving that she was over 18 but then doublebagged the bottle and asked that one of her friends carry it as he didn't want to be accused of selling alcohol to a child. (Last year on holiday she was offered the children's menu at one place, and the kids' activity sheet at a museum... she would have been a bit surprised if she hadn't been queried!Grin)

aginghippy · 27/05/2017 14:36

DD said her last day was surprisingly emotional for her. Afterwards she went to a picnic in the park. Lucky for them to have such nice weather.

DP and I got a bit emotional ourselves later on after a glass of wine or two Blush I am really grateful that she has had such a good education.

Horsemad · 27/05/2017 15:13

aging I thought DS was a little quiet after all the leaving celebrations.

I think with him it's kicking in that this is IT...!

bigTillyMint · 27/05/2017 21:53

Lol Errol - DD and her mates went into a shop near her sixthform dressed in their old school uniforms on Friday. Not an eye was batted when they bought wine, Desperadoes and god knows what else. And certainly no ID was asked for. Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 02/06/2017 13:05

DD is working hard, though we took most of Tuesday off to get her holiday clothes - we leave a day after her last exam and we haven't had a sunshiny abroad holiday for 3 years so she really did need to get some new stuff. Surprisingly successful, still got to find some boardies - sensible ones for windsurfing and sailing in.

DH had a very unpleasant A level maths exam nightmare last night, poor lamb.Grin possibly a tad overinvested.

teta · 02/06/2017 13:50

How is everyone doing?
Dd is feeling a tad neglected as my priority is getting my 12 year old thru' Common Entrance next week.
But I did take her to Tk Maxx and buy her a pretty necklace and chandelier earrings to go with her ballgown, plus a bikini. She is going away for a week with her friends to somewhere hot and sunny and needs bikinis and shorts! She has promised to pay me back, but it never materialises Grin.

ono40 · 02/06/2017 14:46

Well half term is nearly over, DH is just about to embark on his three week jolly work trip abroad and it is sunny....which can only mean one thing - exam week is just around the corner - eek! DS kicks off next Friday with History. Anyone else get going next week?

He has been working hard all week and I have been testing him in the after lunch slump zone so his brain keeps ticking over. No shopping here as he hates it but I have told him that he will have to go on holiday in his pants as none of his clothes fit!

MirabelleTree · 02/06/2017 14:59

Just popped in to wish you all luck as assuming they get going next week? Hope you're all bearing up ok. DD off tomorrow to Europe for a week then off Japan for a big chunk of the summer armed with her Art Foundation summer project brief so all good here. I'm much more chilled out about it than I was when she went after GCSE's and really excited for her.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/06/2017 17:48

Thanks Mirabelle - and best wishes to your DD! Mine has already had a couple of her exams, 8 more to go -reasonably spread out, no clashes like gcses.

doglover · 02/06/2017 17:50

Dd has her first exam on Wednesday next week. She's been working really, really hard - has Oxford offer - and is very stressed!

bebumba · 02/06/2017 18:06

Ono40 I am in the same position. Ds off on holiday straight after exams and needs clothes that fit too. I have told him that unless we go shopping this weekend he will be spending the week away in his pyjamas!
Next exam is chemistry on the 12th.
Good luck to those who have exams next week .

HSMMaCM · 02/06/2017 18:17

Loving all the DCs going on holiday with no clothes. DD was horrified when she told me she has no clothes for our holiday and I brought out all the shorts she threw in the recycling bag last summer.

She's done some revision today (books were on the bed anyway) and has disappeared to KFC now.

Just smiling as I was imagining our dcs travelling across Europe spotting the offspring of Mumsnetters by their lack of clothes.

bigTillyMint · 02/06/2017 21:52

DD also starts next Wed, then Fri. She is getting pretty stressed now - lots of eggshells being trodden on!
No lack of clothes here as DD online shops to cheer herself upSmile

Thanks Mirabelle! Your DD sounds so independent - very exciting and just proves how they dont all have to go down a set, traditional route.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/06/2017 07:50

Ooh, we've got a big one today, the main Geography paper.
Am relieved to say DD seems in a pretty good place with it all ATM.
Just have to get her younger brother to eat his breakfast and find his games kit (just found!)

  • he doesn't have any sense of urgency about getting ready for anything.
She's going in to school with him as usual even though exam is this afternoon (for her exam board) Good luck to any other Geographers!
ErrolTheDragon · 05/06/2017 08:56

Good luck to your DD, Juggling.

bigTillyMint · 05/06/2017 09:29

Good Luck to your DD Juggling.

DD is getting very stressed. Eggshells everywhere!

teta · 05/06/2017 10:23

Good luck everyone for this week!
I am frantically making chicken soup for both dd1 and ds1 right now.In an effort to stop them getting sick during exams.Ds has his starting tomorrow and he always gets a cold/flu during them .Shame the stress doesn't make him revise!

ono40 · 05/06/2017 11:22

Good luck to your DD Juggling. Lots of trampled eggshells here too BTM, enough to make several omelettes! Which exam does your DD have first?

And good luck to your DD Mirabelle, that all sounds very grown up indeed.

Roll on Friday, at least they will be underway at last.

MirabelleTree · 05/06/2017 11:51

Good luck to your DD Juggling.

teta · 05/06/2017 13:46

Can I just put this down as a warning.Dd has been charged £30 for going into an unauthorised overdraft for 6 days. She didn't even realise that once you're 18 you can go overdrawn using your debit card. With exams and so much going on plus the fact I've always left it up to her - just beware.I've complained bitterly to the Indian call centre man with an accent I just couldn't understand and feel this is a right bloody rip off!

HSMMaCM · 05/06/2017 14:05

Thanks for the warning.

DD has an ecg monitor for 24 hours before her first exam and a job interview on the way home. She is remarkably laid back about it all!

OP posts:
JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/06/2017 17:34

Thanks for all your encouragement everyone - DD a bit upset when talking it through as they asked a very broad question for "the 40 marker" on effects of tectonic activity where you had to cover everything such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes, and attempt to assess which have the biggest impact on human settlements. As she also had some timing issues (from spending slightly too long on other sections) a big broad question for the main essay didn't really play to her strengths where she knew a lot of detail for each part but didn't have time to use many of her case studies. But it's probably better or less bad than she feels and I think she got more content into the other sections which are worth 50 marks together (so out of 90 overall I think)
A second paper on Friday, more skills based with an information booklet to study beforehand and respond to in the exam.

HSMMaCM · 05/06/2017 18:41

Juggling that's a massive question. How on earth can they mark questions like that Confused
