I'm now doing random searches as well - thinking, 'ooh, I always fancied something creative in Brighton'.

DS is Confused. He's looking at Dundee just to get away from me I think Grin

MirabelleTree · 14/08/2017 19:46

www.telegraph.co.uk/education/2017/08/13/leading-universities-still-have-thousands-empty-coursesfigures/ this has just come up on my FB feed.

Horsemad · 14/08/2017 20:12

'ooh, I always fancied something creative in Brighton'.

Liney Grin

I saw that article too Mirabelle.

What I can't understand is if Nottingham have had the A level results (which they will have had), surely not everyone has made their offer, so how come they are not in Clearing?

Or am I missing something? Hmm

bigTillyMint · 14/08/2017 22:11

Mirabelle and Horse, great advice, it somewhat anxiety-inducung! I have just text it to DD who was like, phone interview? No way!

Liney Flowers How sweet that your DS is thinking of your health.

We are trying to stop DD stewing. She told me today that she had a nightmare that she got her results but couldmt get the envelope open!

HSMMaCM · 14/08/2017 22:19

BTM I'll add letter opener to my list.

bigTillyMint · 14/08/2017 22:30

She said shes going to check online and if its good news DS can go with her to collect them but if its bad, I have to go!

Horsemad · 14/08/2017 22:32

Haha, letter opener a MUST! Grin

NearlyEaster · 14/08/2017 22:35

Our school is geared up for helping students that have missed their offers - we greet them as they come in, take them somewhere quiet to open their envelopes and then get them on the phones to clearing places.

I hope some of your DC get similar help if track doesn't give them the news they're hoping for.

I got my results by phone from my boyfriend. I had to do clearing from overseas! By myself. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.

MirabelleTree · 15/08/2017 06:57

So how will you all be celebrating the fact you've got them through A levels and survived ?!

Horsemad · 15/08/2017 07:15

We're going for a cream tea at a local hotel (where DH&I got married Smile) and then DS is off to party in the evening.

HSMMaCM · 15/08/2017 07:20

Taking DD to a friend's house where they are all meeting up to commiserate celebrate and then go clubbing.

Auntpetunia2015 · 15/08/2017 09:29

No idea. Planning on playing it by ear DS will either be on his computer talking to his mates or out drinking. He may give his poor mum some time ..Hmm

LineysRun · 15/08/2017 10:22

I hadn't even thought about it!

NearlyEaster, I don't really remember getting my A level results - so long ago ...

bigTillyMint · 15/08/2017 10:48

No plans yet but maybe brunch if all goes well - DD has a job interview or something lined up in the afternoon and is going clubbing after, regardless of the results. Of course Grin

bigTillyMint · 15/08/2017 10:50

We had a big dinner party/sleepover at a friends the night before collecting our results and then went for ice-creams in the sun after!

Auntpetunia2015 · 15/08/2017 15:31

Just asked DS what the plan was for Thursday ...check on line if in; go school get results do what ever they make me do then home and back to to bed ..why?

Such a dynamic young man!

user7214743615 · 15/08/2017 15:48

What I can't understand is if Nottingham have had the A level results (which they will have had), surely not everyone has made their offer, so how come they are not in Clearing?

This isn't how the system works.

Everybody over-offers to allow for people not making their offers, even Oxbridge.

University courses only go into Clearing if the total number of students accepted via Firm/Insurance is less than they (or usually their management rather than them) want.

Nottingham has expanded its student numbers hugely in recent years. It may well be that they are happy with the numbers of incoming students they have already got and they don't want to go to Clearing for more.

Nursing will be in Clearing everywhere because the application numbers fell so sharply due to the withdrawal of bursaries.

Aunt petunia 'do whatever they make me do' Grin

OP posts:
Horsemad · 15/08/2017 17:03

Thanks User, I found it intriguing that both the nursing courses were 2yr ones, for Graduate entry; especially as, like you say, nursing applications are down this year.

Auntpetunia2015 · 15/08/2017 17:27

HSMMaCM. I know ....it was slightly less polite than that...not sure what they might want him to do, probably pose for photos for the local paper, as deputy head boy they use him a lot for publicity. That's why he wants to go early and get away before they start that.

LoneStarRising · 15/08/2017 17:36

DS's plan is now: check Track; go in and get results; come home; start phoning from shortlist Clearing file we have compiled; shake fist at the heavens. Not necessarily in that order.

SweetieBaby · 15/08/2017 17:36

This is not a stealth boast, I genuinely need advice.

DD had accepted an unconditional offer but what should be do if she doesn't do very well in A levels - so, as long as she gets two Es she can go to uni BUT say she gets two C's and a D (enough to go to uni) would she be better to re sit A levels rather than go to uni? How will it affect her job prospects to potentially have a good degree but weak A levels?

Horsemad · 15/08/2017 17:44

Nobody really asks about A levels after you have a degree.
And once you have a degree, nobody asks about that unless you have a Master's...

So says my friend's DS! Grin

Hello everyone, just catching up after our holiday to SE Asia, feeling jet-lagged.

How did it get to be the day before results day? Wow, that's come round quickly. We are Not Mentioning tomorrow. It is not happening so no plans have been made. I think DS is very nervous as he knows he could have done better and he let the pressure get to him.

I remember my own results day clearly and my sister saying 'you will look back on this in 10 years and wonder why you were so upset'. She was absolutely right but at the time I could have killed her!
