Glad she had a good time BTM, where is she off to next ?!

bigTillyMint · 17/07/2017 08:08

She left for Prague yesterday morning - only just made the flight as DH cut it too fine. But she apparently stayed calm and made it to meet the others, despite doing it all on her own Smile

MirabelleTree · 17/07/2017 15:56

Lucky her ! They really are all growing up Smile

ono40 · 20/07/2017 16:52

Hello everyone, how are you all? I had a mad couple of weeks with work and didn't get time to post. DS has made it abroad with friends for the first time and is due home tonight. He's been working all hours for the last couple of weeks to earn money to go travelling at the end of August. He got his accommodation offer today so we will be £550 lighter shortly as we need to pay the deposit within 3 days.

Horsemad · 20/07/2017 17:37

I'm waiting for an op that may or may not clash with DS going to uni!

DS is enjoying his time off Smile

My DS1 and GF are staying and the house seems too small... Grin

HSMMaCM · 20/07/2017 20:26

Had a lovely weeks holiday with dd and her friend. Gave her ideas of some things to do over the summer - life guard course, hair styling workshop, etc etc. I don't think she'll do any of them Grin.

4 days to her 18th.
27 days to results Shock.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 21/07/2017 10:30

HSM, its 5 days to my DD's!

Trying not to think about results - 27 and 34 days away. Gulp!

teta · 22/07/2017 14:08

I've fallen off this thread so thought I had better post.
We're in Australia and have left Dd behind in Singapore for a week. She has a very small serviced apartment near Orchard Road and her school friend is staying with her .They are partying with other friends of friends every night. Its such a young vibrant city that's totally set up for this age group.Dh was upset at leaving her and all emotional but Dd was merry having just come back from drinks and dim sum 5 minutes before we left 😁.I have to keep on reminding him she will be leaving home very soon ( hopefully) and we will have to trust her then!
I'm really not thinking about exam results as there is no point worrying at this stage.I can definitely say that Dd is having a wonderful holiday!

HSMMaCM · 22/07/2017 17:06

Singapore Teta. Nice.

Dd was upset that her friends didn't want to go clubbing for her 18th on a Monday, because it's a weeknight and they have work Grin. She worked out that if they go after midnight on the Sunday, it will be her birthday. Her friends have gone for that option, even though they have work on Monday Hmm.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 23/07/2017 11:17

HSM, I think DD was thinking about going after midnight on her birthday too - first legal clubbing nightGrin

Singapore? Very lucky girl!

ono40 · 24/07/2017 11:50

Trying to get organised here before we go off on holiday because when we get back we have 2 days until...whispers it...results and then DS will be going off inter-railing for 3 weeks. He has had his meningitis jab and I have paid the deposit on halls, set up a direct debit for the rest and opened a student bank account. I am sure there is loads more to do!

Horsemad · 24/07/2017 14:58

Can someone please remind me which meningitis jab they need?

Mentioned it to our GP receptionist in passing and she looked blank and said she'd never heard of it...!! Shock

ono40 · 24/07/2017 16:00

Hi Horse, it is MenACWY and they need to have it two weeks before freshers.

Horsemad · 24/07/2017 17:48

Thanks ono. Smile I remember DS1 having it, but his records aren't at the surgery now, so I couldn't ask the Receptionist what he'd had.

I will make an appt.

Have a great holiday, where are you going?

HSMMaCM · 24/07/2017 20:51

Dd has had her jab. We got an invite from the surgery for her to go in.

Glad to see all of our young people enjoying themselves. Ds is back from his trip abroad and had a fantastic time. He is helping out at a local scout camp for a few days each week and relaxing for the rest.
We are trying not to think about results day.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 06/08/2017 14:40

Just back from a great week away with DD and DS at our big Quaker Gathering. Last night was especially good with performance of "3 acres and a cow" - a speedy alternative run through of English history told from the peasants POV, illustrated with some great folk songs, and then a brilliant Ceilidh, for all ages, genders, sexual orientations etc. Just come along as you are!
We all had a really good week choosing the different workshops that most interested us and then getting together in the evenings for shared meals with friends in our student kitchen ( we were staying at Warwick Uni), with chance to catch up on everyone's day.
We hold these bigger gatherings every three years and always stay on a Uni campus, which I think is a helpful education in itself for my DC, now teenagers.
Am partly place marking too I must admit as I don't want to drop off this thread!
DS went straight on to his next holiday with a good friend of his, whilst DD and I are back home now to recover slightly ☺

How's all yours summer's going?

Horsemad · 06/08/2017 20:15

That sounds great Juggling. Smile

DS2 has done very little this holiday, despite saying he wanted a holiday job... Hmm
My DS1 has been home a month, with the girlfriend in tow but she's returned home now.

I can't believe it's Results Day a week in Thursday - this year has FLOWN! Shock I think DS2 will take a year out if he doesn't get in and will reapply next year with grades in hand.
That's his Plan B. Wink

MirabelleTree · 07/08/2017 07:43

That sounds really good Juggling. DD back in Europe now and only another couple of weeks till back in UK, summer is flying by. She's decided that actually the UK not so bad now after all! Starting to schedule University visits for the Autumn. I think she feels a lot better after what's turned into a gap year round the wrong way round and I feel less worried about her and Foundation Art next year, think she'll buckle down without moaning so much and won't spend entire year saying she hates the UK.

I'm on standby to support friend's DD on results day as helped her sister through clearing last year . She had said if she doesn't get grades she will resit but then wavered on that recently and said she might have a go through clearing after all. I'm pretty confident she'll get her insurance and will probably get her first choice but time will tell.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 07/08/2017 19:55

DD just working out today that she might be able to squeeze in a late summer trip to Slovenia to stay with a friend she met last year at international summer camp in Finland! (Was briefly mentioned as an idea a few weeks ago) I said go for it as long as we can sort out a passport. Fortunately we live in a city with a passport office and it seems to have some appointments available for a one week fast track application. Wondering if the passport ID might be useful for student registration too?

Also just went to garden centre and bought some plants and a pot to plant up for a birthday present for Granny. We're visiting for a few days for birthday celebrations.

HSMMaCM · 08/08/2017 13:17

Dd has been offered and resigned from 2 jobs already this holiday. Not sure what she's going to live on in September!

There's also a boy hanging around who's just a friend. The last thing she needs at the moment is a boyfriend.

Also slightly concerned she won't get her grades Sad

OP posts:
AmITwirly · 08/08/2017 15:02

Congrats to those who have their results already.
DS1 has done 4 weeks of 30 hours in a café, so that will be a nice little buffer of money when he gets paid.

I'm trying to get him to decide what his plan will be if he doesn't get the grades he needs. Have been nagging him about it for at least 2 weeks, but he just won't focus on it. Hmm

I'm trying not to get too anxious about results, but the double whammy of A levels and GCSEs in this house is not good for my blood pressure!

LittleHo · 08/08/2017 21:32

Double whammy of GCSE's and A Level results for us too again this year. Oh joy.

Time to start buying chocolate ice cream and wine.

The university which she has down as her firm choice has much more convenient moving in dates than the insurance choice. So Sod's Law means that she will get into the insurance choice!

Horsemad · 08/08/2017 23:55

Oh I remember the hell that was A levels and GCSEs 2yrs ago!!

That was a testing time...

I am trying not to think too hard about next Thursday, it's come round fast though Shock

Horsemad · 08/08/2017 23:56

Think the unis get the results on the Sunday before Results Day, so that's THIS Sunday ShockShockShock
