so here's the thing, having a major whinge to all daytime idlers out there bless you lol..Smile

Been going on this walking club on and off since 2004, nice people, lovely countryside.. suddenly all this anger comes out of nowhere towards me because I have started for the last 18 months to take a little terrier out with me. Dog needs exercise and I can't own a dog where I'm living so...good arrangement, happy days Smile only one day a week so fine.

Some of these peeps are angry because of perceived minor annoyances due to dog: danger that he might actually look at them while they are pigging out on posh foodie grub (has never happened) shock horror Shock that he might run occasionally and maybe bark at the odd bird or two Confused

All this discontent because their cosy selfish spoilt routine is viewed as being in danger of being disrupted.

What do I do about their attitude please ? Can i ever change it or are they too set in their cosy selfish attitudes ? Its also crazy because the dog is under control at all times and is a really sweet boy Star

Expect many of you have encountered these kinds of attitudes for one reason or another. Fight or walk away ?Angry
cheers Smile

AYank - why don't you go elsewhere then ?
go away

Nah. I'd rather wait to see how this thread pans out badly thanks.

wavingfuriously · 16/03/2017 16:26

if you read my comments they are not personally nasty against people just their behaviour and to your later question - to get some feedback

The80sweregreat · 16/03/2017 16:27

You;ve had this dog for 18 months now and only just getting the vibes that they dont want your dog to come along on the walks? all very odd.

wavingfuriously · 16/03/2017 16:28

Silver - no we don't have a membership as such so since there are no 'members' no one can be asked to leave...
rules re dogs says 'well behaved dogs only'

no constitution

I have always suspected the Socialist Worker is written and read mainly by middle class champagne socialists.

TipTop333 · 16/03/2017 16:29

If you complain to ofsted it can trigger a full inspection.

Megatherium · 16/03/2017 16:30

I'm assuming from your OP that this dog isn't yours? So if you want to go on the walks it's perfectly easy to leave it behind? Or, if you want to take it for walks, you don't have to go with this group? Given that you dislike the people in this group so much, I would have thought that is your answer.

TipTop333 · 16/03/2017 16:30

I wish the terrier good luck in its GCSEs

wavingfuriously · 16/03/2017 16:30

The80sweregrea No its a new person posting the walks tho' and he said he was waiting to see if my 'aberration' taking dog was going to come to an end ...obviously it didn't.
don't see why i should leave its a free country

OP posts:
wavingfuriously · 16/03/2017 16:31

Mega - that is sensible feedback thanks

OP posts:
SilverBirchWithout · 16/03/2017 16:31

So this new leader is insinuating the terrier is NOTwell-behaved or is he just an arse (albeit a MC one)?

TipTop333 · 16/03/2017 16:31

It's a free country

Who had that in bingo?

wavingfuriously · 16/03/2017 16:32

mega - but i do like some of them

OP posts:
Megatherium · 16/03/2017 16:32

whats happened is that a different person is now leading the walks..but he overstepping the mark laying down laws like this

Surely if he's taking the trouble to lead the walks, it's totally up to him to set the conditions for the walk, including if necessary rules against dogs?

blueskyinmarch · 16/03/2017 16:33

They would hate my dog. She is a Labrador. She wouldn't just look at you as you ate your food, she would lay her chin gently on your thigh and stare with her big pleading eyes until you were guilted into parting with juicy morsels of meat. Grin

Renaissance2017 · 16/03/2017 16:33

Woah Silver! Don't accuse the terrier of being a champagne socialist. He wears a red collar and is member of the Communist Party. Mention McCarthy and he becomes a steely eyed savage.

Waving, you're going to run into a load of abuse on this thread. Always happy to share a dog walk. We're in the far south east and tend to do between 10 and 12 miles on a walk out.

wavingfuriously · 16/03/2017 16:34

Silver - he is normally a nice person,...but someone said he may be a passive aggressive ie half an arse. he said in an email if i turned with dog for his walk they would all wait until me and dog disappeared into distance ! comical really

lottiegarbanzo · 16/03/2017 16:34

Dogs on walks are a pain unless perfectly, really perfectly trained.

IME, with 'trained' ones, they run past people on steep, narrow paths, risking tripping them, beg for food at lunch time and ALWAYS chase sheep, which is ALWAYS a total surprise to their owner. (Class of dog, owner, other walkers and sheep has had no bearing whatsoever on this consistent experience).

If your dog is the exception and the rules say that well behaved dogs are allowed, you can either wait until an actual complaint is made, ignoring comments in the meantime, or, have a quiet word with whoever seems to be upset, find out what the problem is and if you could do anything to address it. Then maybe chat to the chair, if you think people are being unreasonable towards you.

The80sweregreat · 16/03/2017 16:34

NO, you dont need to leave , but if i were feeling as uncomfortable as you are and on the end of comments and vibes that they didnt want my dog on the walks, then i would just go on my own or find other friends that didnt mind animals or had dogs themselves. I can see your point of view, but to carry on when they dont want the dog around isnt good either.

wavingfuriously · 16/03/2017 16:36

bluesky - gorgeous girl Grin

I'd be tempted to start a rival walking group, say starting 20 mins earlier or later. Encourage whippets, pickled egg sandwiches, flat caps and Burberry scarf wearing, and take a few copies of the Sun to read when you have a rest (not if you are near Liverpool, obviously)

lottiegarbanzo · 16/03/2017 16:37

Or leave, or volunteer to lead a walk yourself.

wavingfuriously · 16/03/2017 16:37

thanks so much lottie and The80s good feedback, food for thought certainly. just wish all people were dog lovers
