Does anyone know when Eton will be advising on acceptance results for entry 2019?
I believe it's sometime in December.

Ok so I've double checked what I actually emailed across to Eton.
I asked when letters of acceptance/rejection were being sent out regarding 2019 interviews held in October.
The response was short and sweet: they will be sent out by 18th December.
So 6 days hence and we should expect either a nice, fat A4 envelope or a sad little A5 one ... by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week I'd say so by 21st Dec.

3luckystars - I think it's about 13k per term. We are also looking at a midlands boarding school (I think I may prefer this one as it offers a similar outlook but without the potential Eton 'millstone' effect) - Oundle - which is 11 or 12k per term.
Over 5 years, the Eton premium is equivalent to one or two terms fees, tops.
I see this as an investment in my DS's personal development and his potential career aspirations/choices if he excels more here than elsewhere being amongst like minded driven boys.

3luckystars · 12/12/2016 19:12

Wow! I really admire parents who put their children to the best education they can afford, whatever that may be. Thats a huge amount of money, seriously well done. Ours go to a school that costs 1% of that! We are still skint : )
Id imagine the Eton fees are the tip of the iceberg too, there is probably loads more to pay for besides. I have seen Eton on tv and it looks really great. Best of luck to all of your kids wherever they go to school.

leftandaright · 12/12/2016 19:36

Yes it's a whack load of money. To put it in context for us, I still get full child benefit as neither my dh or I earn over 50k per year.
We have saved all of our lives for school fees. This is our priority.

3luckystars · 12/12/2016 19:38

Jeepers!

NashvilleQueen · 12/12/2016 19:42

I was at university with a boy who had four brothers and they were all there (as has he been). From prep school upwards. He was a great bloke as well.

LaPharisienne · 12/12/2016 19:47

Hang on a minute...

Leftandaright you get full CB but can afford to send your child to Eton? How could you possibly have saved enough previously?

leftandaright · 12/12/2016 20:00

Both my dh and I work and always have done since we left full time education and we have saved enough to see our children through school fees. We both have professional type jobs. Nothing special!

MidLifeCrisis007 · 12/12/2016 20:12

For those on tenterhooks, we received an email (sent at 8.42am) as well as a letter when our DS received his conditional offer a few years ago.

Don't feel you have to sit by the front door waiting for the post man! He may have a big sack of Christmas cards to get through before he delivers your letter!

My DS's headmaster knew the day before IIRC.

Good luck all.

FinneyBoy · 12/12/2016 20:29

I take it all offers are conditional?

OP posts:
Cosynightsin · 12/12/2016 20:31

Did you live in the UK Midlife? Is it just those who live abroad who get the email due to postal delays. Or do UK boys get an email too and a letter?

MuseumOfCurry · 12/12/2016 21:13

Yes, all offers are conditional on the Common Entrance.

I guess I'll just go mill about the head's office.

MidLifeCrisis007 · 12/12/2016 21:21

Yes - we live in the UK Cosy.

LaPharisienne · 12/12/2016 21:53

Leftandaright - so you've saved at least £390,000 since you've left uni? On a combined salary of around £66k net p/a?

Hmm
leftandaright · 12/12/2016 22:02

No. We have saved a lot more!
And our combined net salary is not 66k.
Neither of us have gross income of more than 50k.
There's a whole lot of assumptions between that latter statement and declaring a net salary of 66k. For a start, income can be in the form of dividends which until recently were not taxable whilst in the basic rate tax band.
Also, the reason we wouldn't qualify for bursary is because we inherited a shed load of assets that in themselves provide us with a rent and mortgage free house. That should go a long way to explain why we are in the fortinate position of being able to save a large chunk of our income.
I'm not inclined to further describe our entire taxable earnings for the last 25 years as I'm sure you will understand but suffice to say, school fee planning has been our goal for up to 25 years (20 years for me!).

LaPharisienne · 12/12/2016 22:35

Gotcha.

That is quite the commitment..!

leftandaright · 12/12/2016 22:49

I'm just hoping that in 10 years time or so, I'll say it was money well spent :-D

MuseumOfCurry · 13/12/2016 09:15

Letter arrived... Waiting list!

leftandaright · 13/12/2016 09:56

MuseumofCurry - well that's definitely worth of congrats then as with only 1 in 5 getting accepted and I presume less than 1 in 5 then go on the wait list..so well done to your DS getting thus far.
I won't get home from work till 3.30pm so I will update on here if our letter has arrived.

leftandaright · 13/12/2016 10:02

Out of interest, have you had an email too?

MuseumOfCurry · 13/12/2016 10:14

Thanks left.

No email.

They have re-worked the waitlist - all boys on it are called back for 'exam/interview round 2'

Cosynightsin · 13/12/2016 10:14

That's good news Museum. I would be happy with a waiting list place. You should feel v proud! Do you know if there is a list order?
What type of envelope did it come in?
Our post is quite unreliable, so will prob come tomorrow.
Best of luck to everyone else!

Cosynightsin · 13/12/2016 10:16

Just read your update. Crikey, they don't make it easy do they! But at least the boys get a chance to shine again!
When are you called back?

MuseumOfCurry · 13/12/2016 10:17

The letter specifically said no order.

Envelope is not the standard size, but rather the size of a paper is folded in half if you see what I mean?

Good luck everyone.

MuseumOfCurry · 13/12/2016 10:18

When are you called back?

Summer term year 7.
