How much uniform needed?

I'm going to go to the uniform supplier in the morning with DD and can't think how much to buy - skirts, shirts and jumpers I mean. In primary there have always been a large selection of stuff in her wardrobe as she grows out of and into things so I have no idea what she really needs. Is 3 of each thing ok?

We had 1 blazer, 1 jumper ( worn twice!) 2 long sleeve and 2 short sleeve non-iron shirts, 3 trousers and 2 ties. All ok to wear again apart from the trousers as all far too short. Blazer will need replacing through the year but thought I'd do this when its actually too small not now as it fits quite well. Also, we bought one of each thing for PE and cheap indoor trainers. Make sure everything is labelled. We've lost ( well him) so much stuff and only one thing was returned.

we are getting two of everything for now (one jacket though) and will probably get another lot in a few months to make 3 of everything, its so expensive though to get all at once..

Ok I'll get enough shirts so I don't have to iron during the week - I really hate ironing. There is so much PE kit! Hockey stuff, swimming stuff, shorts AND a skort plus tracksuit. Do they just take each thing in as needed then? So they will know they are having hockey and won't have to lug everything around? How big a sports bag are you getting?

yes - one shirt per day. - ds has cotton so his need ironing, but dd starts in sept and her shirts are polycotton and just need to eb hung up (yeh!)

don't spend money on extra jumpers until you know if they wear them or not. (ds doesn't)

enough skirts/trousers for a week. ds wears his all week often, but sometimes comes home covered in mud from lunchtime footie, so needs a spare.

I have bought dd 2 trousers and a skirt.

One blazer, 5+ shirts, 3/4 trousers. Ask parents with older kids about sports kit- mine wear plain black Sports Direct trackies instead of the £20 logo ones and no ones ever complained. They might not need all the variations- skort or shorts I'm sure would be fine, can't see why they'd need both! Mine have never been swimming and never used the school apron.

DS is finishing year 7. He has had two pairs of trousers, 5 polo shirts and two jumpers. Also one school hoodie which was useful as he doesn't do coats and the only hoodie they can wear is the school one, so it at least meant he didn't freeze totally in the winter.

Might get three pairs of trousers for next year but the rest has been right.

3 polos and 3 jumpers. They have to wear the jumper no matter what

It seems to have been ok.
This year they have done shirts and I've gone with only short sleeves. I'll see if that works for the winter later on.

Getting a locker was a pointless and costly think as I paid for a number of years and he's lost the locker key twice and never uses it.

I have 4 children so always washing which I think makes a difference to how much is needed but my daughter is starting secondary in September and I have got her 2 trousers 4 shirts and 2 jumpers.

DTs are starting secondary in Sept and I got:

3 x shirts each
1 x blazer each
1 x trousers each
PE Kit (polo shirt/rugby shirt/shorts/socks) each
Tie for DS

£250 bloody quid! Going to see how we go with that and top up if needed later So cheesed off about the striped shirts that you can only buy at the School Shop at vast expense instead of the bog standard white they had at primary...

I prefer washing and ironing a lot to spending any more money!

I will probably get DD a skirt and DS 2 x trousers from Marks & Spencer or Matalan once they have started and can see that other kids do not only wear regulation School Shop trousers/skirts (School shop people said they had to but I have seen many girls in mini skirts and not many in the calf length pleated monstrosity she tried to sell DD that would no doubt be worn once then discarded in disgust!)

which is what worked well for DD1.

Ds1 - 1 blazer, 1 jumper, 2 trousers, 6 shirts.

Ds2 (different school)- 2 jumper, 2 trousers, 6 shirts, 1 coat.

Dd will have- 2 jumpers, 2 trousers (sold in pairs super market ), 1 skirt, 6 shirts.

All 3 had/have 2 ties.

DS has 3 polo shirts, 3 trousers and 2 jumpers

He started with one set of pe kit but I soon bought him another when I realised that he would be using it most days with after school clubs!

Started the long process of uniform shopping this week:

4 summer blouses
2 winter shirts

1 Waterproof jacket

Still waiting on:

Ended up with 2 jumpers (they are so thick I can't imagine they'll be worn except in jan/feb), 3 skirts, blazer, 6 shirts (2 short sleeved and 4 long) plus the ten tons of pe kit. Forgot the bloody tie but I think that's only for formal occasions.

faux; check with the school re the skirt. My school has got completely fed up of skirt arguments so from September every year has to wear a regulation skirt that they will still find a way to roll up

so whilst it looks atm that any skirt will do this will be a definite no in September

One of everything except shirts and socks/tights.

Our DDs have

1 blazer
2 skirts
5 blouses (clean one each day)
1 sweater (rarely worn, only on coldest days)

And, then shed loads of PE kit as they have to wear different combinations for different sports.
