Following on from the preparing for AS levels thread.

Hopefully everyone is finishing off AS exams.

My DS did psychology and biology, I had a quick peek at the grade boundaries as I can't sleep (nothing unusual, it happens often) but they didn't mean much to me - I can't tell if they are high or low.

I am taking DS and his girlfriend to college at 9am and DS will phone me with the hopefully good news.

GetAHaircutCarl · 18/08/2016 06:52

Good luck to all our lovely young people.

OddBoots · 18/08/2016 07:07

DS decided to get up early in the end. He's been able to get his results online and we are generally pleased. He has got what he hoped for three of them and the one he didn't do as well in is the one he plans to drop so I think that is the right decision.

HSMMaCM · 18/08/2016 08:56

Ooh oddboots. First one in is a good result. Collecting DD's at 10.

Excellent news Oddboots :)
DS and his girlfriend have just been dropped off, waiting for the call now.

dingit · 18/08/2016 09:11

Well done oddboots ds. Still waiting ...

OddBoots · 18/08/2016 09:15

Fingers crossed for all those still waiting.

I've just seen it tweeted that the college car park is like a maternity ward with expectant dads pacing up and down.

I barely slept a wink last night.

SvalbardianPenguin · 18/08/2016 09:26

I've been awake since 3am, presumably related to the results. DS seemed fairly OK this morning but declined to help washing up so he's feeling 100% normal then

SvalbardianPenguin · 18/08/2016 09:29

Got them - I'm delighted and it's confirmed that DS has made the right choices about the subject to drop.

2016Blyton · 18/08/2016 09:30

Mine are only allowed into schookl at 10.30 (once the A2 crowd are finished) and they say they and their friends will go in as late as possible so no hurry here.

bigTillyMint · 18/08/2016 09:43

Well done to your DS OddBoots, and yours Penguin.

Y12 have to wait till 12.30 here. I feel strangely disengaged.

SvalbardianPenguin · 18/08/2016 09:45

Mine were told 9.30 but the A2 students told them that they could go whenever and they'd get given the results.
DS phoned and told the GPs, they phoned me all concerned and asked if the results were what was needed, silly chumps though he had got a grade lower in the three important ones and wouldn't get a university offer. I've put them straight :)

Fairenuff · 18/08/2016 10:09

Ds got his online this morning. BBCC and he was planning on dropping one of the Cs so that leaves him BBC for UCAS which will be at least 112 points if he gets the same or better at A2.

The courses he is looking at require 112 as a minimum so it looks like he is on target but can't afford to slip.

In case anyone wants them, the UCAS points for 2017 entry are

AS Level

A 20
B 16
C 12
D 10
E 6

and for A2s

A* 56
A 48
B 40
C 32
D 24
E 16

2016Blyton · 18/08/2016 10:14

I think mine may have left as the house has gone quiet (the passed their driving tests earlier this year) although whether they will tell me the results before going out with friends remains to be seen. They say it is no big deal.

SvalbardianPenguin · 18/08/2016 10:15

DS needs A*AA unless he gets an A in his EPQ. He got AAAC in AS and has dropped the C one already.
Fingers crossed for everybody still waiting.

SvalbardianPenguin · 18/08/2016 10:17

Oh, just seen his preferred uni have published a list of schools and colleges which are eligible for contextual offers and his college is on it so it's AAB :)

Fairenuff · 18/08/2016 10:18

Well done to your ds Penguin, excellent results. I remember the stress when my dd needed high grades for her course. Nail biting moments. They just have to do it all again next year now Grin

SvalbardianPenguin · 18/08/2016 10:21

thanks. Right, back to the more mundane now - he needs me to go and buy him new underwear he knows how to celebrate

ObiWankyKnobby · 18/08/2016 10:23

I just wanted to jump onto this thread to tell you my DD's story. She collected her AS's 2 years ago. They were way below what she was anticipating (2Cs 2Ds) and she was distraught. The next few days were hard fro her; she was embarrassed about how she had done, all her friends were bombing social media with there good results. She did lots of crying and we did lots of supporting!

Fast forward 2 years. She decided not to apply to uni with those grades, and she resat several papers. She decided to apply for entry this year, and take a gap year. She knew that she wanted her gap year to be worthwhile. She worked in a pub from Sept until Christmas, then got a job in a ski resort for 4 mths. She's spent the last 2.5 mths travelling round SE Asia with a group of friends, having an amazing time. She did really well in her A2s ( the AS s were a massive wake up call), did lots of research into where she really wanted to study, and will be starting at the uni of her choice in a month's time.

So my message is that it's really not the end of the world if today's results are disappointing - it may open up another route.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 18/08/2016 10:32

We've just been in to pick up DD's results .....

3 B's for her 3 main subjects!
and an A in General Studies
and a U for Maths (but we perhaps won't always mention that!)

DD is very happy! Feels it sets her up well going into next year, and generally all much better than she thought.
(And she is showing a good sense of humour about the Maths, and looking forward to dropping it ASAP!)

Good to see everyone here reasonably happy so far?
Best of luck to all! Flowers

dingit · 18/08/2016 10:45

Sigh of relief ABBD.

3 marks off A for maths ( she wants to resit paper) D for PE which was already a write off due to being injured.

bigTillyMint · 18/08/2016 10:47

Well done to your DD Juggling.

What a lovely post Obi - I really agree that although not getting what you hoped for can feel like a disaster at the time, there ARE other options.

SvalbardianPenguin · 18/08/2016 10:49

Juggling a U for maths means that your DD is far better at maths than me, I got a 5 at CSE I'm so proud

Dingit that's great, such a shame about PE but it couldn't be helped.

bigTillyMint · 18/08/2016 10:56

Oh xpost with Dingit - well done!

2016Blyton · 18/08/2016 11:09

AAAA
AAAA

First time the twins got the same grades which is lovely as they are always compared with each other so at least this time no one is going on about the differences betwen their marks. Given they said it would be Bs and Cs I'm relieved and also glad they did do AS in the new version A levels this year too. unless they are joking. I would not be that surprised if they messaged us with fake marks.....
